I've become acquainted via CZcams with Mark Bowden from his participation on The Behavior Panel. I think he's really smart, funny, and thoughtful. All of these qualities are displayed well in this TEDx Talk.

I find Mark and the Behavior Panel really interesting too. The only problem is that Mark is lying in this speech. One of the things he is forever pointing out on the Panel is when someone is showing a smile that they don't really mean and how it still registers on their face and that we can spot it at an instinctual level. Here (no matter what he states to the contrary) he truly likes people and his smile is authentic. Busted, Mark!

Yes. Your "OWN" betterment. That says volumes about you without seeing your body to interpret it. The greatest advancements made by humans throughout history was, in the overwhelming majority of times, to help someone other than the creator and usually involved them making a huge personal sacrifice. But those who acted for themselves history has recorded as tyrants ... or not at all. When we compare Mark Bowden and Madame Curie in 100 years, which one will people still know about?

I LOVE the head nod without the usual “Thank you” at the end. It gives off “magician after he nails his magic trick” vibes (and so do the arms he uses as he walks off the stage). I love it! He is as much a performer as he is an intellectual, or at the very least, he has most definitely chosen to appear that way to us. Bravo.

tdreamgmail I totally agree with you. Mark Bowden's presentation is one of the BEST I have seen on TEDx youtube videos. The mere 46,000 view is even more shocking! Mark is absolutely spot-on about how us humans act "indifferently" most of the time to protect ourselves; yet Mark effortlessly breaks our barriers and lets us into his big ideas. What a great presenter, even better message... (he should try out acting career too!)

This is a great counter-balance to the conventional messages of this era that being authentic and real is a one-way ticket to betterment. As with all betterment ideas, balance and intention is the often the best approach. Perhaps being inauthentic - but with good intentions - can become our authentic self with practice.

Mark, Thank you very much for this insightful and intelligent talk. This is something I have been trying to explain but of course, I have never been able to explain with articulation and expertise. There are so many times when we must be a bit fake to become a better community and become closer. I have a very dominant and aggressive personality but I am also very caring and loving. They can appear to be contradictory so I must do exactly what you did in the video just to make sure that the listener feels safe receiving my message. It does work.
As I am developing my business I will make sure that this TedTalk is required watching. You are brilliant and I am thrilled I found you and all of the group through The Behaviour Panel whom I found through Spidey. This kind of information is life-changing.
