The point kinda is that you deliberately allow a transposition and due to the fact that you allow it you might trick your opponent into believing that you only let them the option because you're also really comfortable in the transposition without actually having the slightest clue about it. And as a consequence, the opponent might just not go for it and miss out on this important chance (because we would actually be unprepared) But yeah, what Hans said is just way greater than whatever I just said so you'd be better off listening to the GOAT
@@watmick2821 something like: your opponent can bluff about knowing the french by allowing you to transpose into the french, and you might take their bluff despite them not knowing about the french
Is it more than just the concept of a mind game though? take counter strike, you can go A or go B. if you've been having success going A, your opponent will most likely expect you to prefer A, since B is an unknown quantity, so it'd make sense for them to shift the defense towards A. on the other hand, you know that it makes sense for your opponent to shift towards A, so you might in the first place choose to mix it up with B despite your success at A. but if your opponent considers this, they might shift towards A less than they otherwise would have. it's advanced in the sense that it can have a lot of layers, it's sort of recursive, but I don't think it requires such a lengthy explanation if you start from the point of mind game. as my comment illustrates, it's hard to explain/give example for "mind game" briefly, but I think most people know what it is
