Then it means it also affects Ichigo too since he too is a hollow. It's great that you noticed that too. Also when Ichigo saw Orihime was frightened because of his mask he lost his resolve which was reflected in his eye. Remember what Urahara said about resolve? When Orihime made him sure that that's not the case anymore he got his resolve back. So he was holding back unconsciously. The fight was epic apart from that cringe ending. Studio Pierrot could've done that better.
Yeah they are the only ones that i have seen that remember that, and one more things in the first episode they say that hoolow are in constant pain and when they eat that pain disappears for a llitle moment.
This fight, infact he whole arc shows Ichigo's character development and his maturity as a fighter. Perfectly executed and written by Kubo. It is one of the best arcs n anime.

Seeing this fight again and how well done it was, especially episode 166, gives me hope that when the final arc returns, the fights are going to be the best they've ever been. This fight happened in 2008, so thinking about the Bleach anime over a decade later in 2022 has me pretty damn excited.
The fact that this arguably isn't even the best animated fight in this arc, much less the entire anime and it's still high tier by today's standards, says so much about this show. I can't wait until the TYBW.

Ichigo was holding back against Grimmjow quite a lot. I love Grimmjow but Ichigo was mostly looking back at Orihime and trying to make sure she isn’t scared, the manga makes it more obvious but still, the fact Orihime was scared made him barely on par with Grimmjow while he’s actually stronger but a bunch

There's a difference in the mask patern, but that isn't why Ichigo's hollowfication has become strong. It's just that through his many fights until he fought with Grimmjow Jaggerjack, he's reiatsu became heavy once more, sign of his control over his reiatsu again. Rebember the fight against Yammy Llargo when he cut Yammy's arm. He was able to cut through Ymay's hierro cause he was still able to completely control the heaviness of his reiatsu, however the moment his inner hollow interfered, his reiatsu became unstable, destroying his defenses againts it's opponent reiatsu, in other words making him weak. 2. In this fight against Grimmjow it isn't that Ichigo became stronger, it's just that he's reiatsu became stable again cause his inner hollow is no longer interfiring with the use of his inmensurable reiatsu, Ichigo's greatest weapon. 3. so no the Gotei 13 captains aren't weaker than Ichigo, cause they never lost their control over their reiatsu. It would have been the other way around in this case. 4. Yes an Espada release represents a great boost in their power but that doesn't make them stronger than their opponents, it's just means that they can again wield the original powers that usually are sealed under their zanpakuto. p.s: this isn't a spoiler, everything that i'm saying has already been explained. s.n: the key any battle in Bleach is how much control you have your reiryoku energy, through that control you can make your reiatsu heavy to pressure your opponents or light to evade your opponents from noticing you.

Episode 166 has got to be one of the sickest fights in the history of the franchise in terms of production quality and did the Ichigo/Grimmjow rematch justice. It was like a movie quality battle.
One of the best and one of my favorite fights! Still waiting for the Ulquaiorra fight, that one actually got me jump up and down with exitement back when it originally came out.

I know you already got a filler list up but I assume you got no idea what happens in the filler. Some of the single episode fillers are pretty fun. What I mean is things like episode 228 which is the beach swimsuit episode. I’m guessing you won’t skip that. And others like episode 304 which is the halloween special and has the characters in some nice fits. Here are all the fillers I think are worth watching and why without spoiling them. 228: already explained 230-265: this filler arc introduces a bunch of new characters, including new waifus. And one minor detail from this arc actually got made canon in the manga. 287, 298 & 299: the first 2 are just funny episodes and the last one is a tie-in to the 4th movie. If you ever watch the movies worth watching that. 303-305: first 2 are halloween as I mentioned. The last one isn’t good but it’s got a lot of rangiku fanservice if you into that. The Halloween ones have a bit of that too. 311-341: another filler arc but they decided to animate it better than a lot of the canon for some reason. This ones considered to be pretty good by people. Lot of good fights. 355: last filler and it’s funny so might as well watch it since you’re like 10 episodes from the end. As with some of the others it’s got cute moments in it. Just to be clear I’m not saying you should watch these. Just saying which ones I think are worth watching and why.
how strong or good Ichigo is will always depend on his emotion when his emotion is unstable his spiritual pressure will go wild and weird when he is calm and collected he will be able to control them in this fight Ichigo always have to worry about how to protect Nel and Orihime while also think of a way to not make Orihime scared of him when he have his mask on when Orihime encourage him his doubt fade away and he could use more of his power

A badass fight, that luckily didn't get interfered with or hindered by something. Ichigio showing as much better he used his hollow powers in battle. Thus leading to longer use of the mask.

I just noticed that ichigo is able to control his mask much longer after ulquioraa made a hole in his chest wchich affected his hollow powers.I ve seen when orihime was healing him it was like black hollow energy wpiing out from inside.

Earlier in the anime it was announced that the number does not mean strength in espada. Now I can safely say it, but Ulqiorra would be number 1 on this rule if it was about strength.

You must also understand that his mask being shattered or not is irrelevant has long has he's able to completely take control over his reiatsu. That being said, his emotional stability is also a very important aspect so that his reiryoku energy does not begin floating in an uncontrollable way, cause that diminishes his fighting capabilities. This applies to every beings capable of controlling and manipulating reiryoku energy. Anything that might disturb one's reiatsu is a window to being defeated.
Only half way through but I want to point out that at this point in the story there are still probably 5 or 6 captains that would body ichigo. Although that does change eventually.
Got to remember you still haven't seen a lot of the captain's real power. Some would still beat him. But these next several episodes are going to be crazy. Is good that you notice the markings on his mask as they do change over time. His hollow powers still have room to grow. Much like Chad's.

Episode 166 has got to be one of the sickest fights in the history of the franchise in terms of production quality and did the Ichigo/Grimmjow rematch justice. It was like a movie quality battle.

I know you already got a filler list up but I assume you got no idea what happens in the filler. Some of the single episode fillers are pretty fun. What I mean is things like episode 228 which is the beach swimsuit episode. I’m guessing you won’t skip that. And others like episode 304 which is the halloween special and has the characters in some nice fits. Here are all the fillers I think are worth watching and why without spoiling them.
228: already explained
230-265: this filler arc introduces a bunch of new characters, including new waifus. And one minor detail from this arc actually got made canon in the manga.
287, 298 & 299: the first 2 are just funny episodes and the last one is a tie-in to the 4th movie. If you ever watch the movies worth watching that.
303-305: first 2 are halloween as I mentioned. The last one isn’t good but it’s got a lot of rangiku fanservice if you into that. The Halloween ones have a bit of that too.
311-341: another filler arc but they decided to animate it better than a lot of the canon for some reason. This ones considered to be pretty good by people. Lot of good fights.
355: last filler and it’s funny so might as well watch it since you’re like 10 episodes from the end. As with some of the others it’s got cute moments in it.
Just to be clear I’m not saying you should watch these. Just saying which ones I think are worth watching and why.

in this fight Ichigo always have to worry about how to protect Nel and Orihime while also think of a way to not make Orihime scared of him when he have his mask on
when Orihime encourage him his doubt fade away and he could use more of his power

They underestimate Ichigo a little too much. but in the past it was safe to underestimate him.
If Orihime’s will was strong enough, she could’ve blocked the Gran Rey Cero with her powers.
Ichigo and grimmjow were having a one on one and for orihime to interfere with that would be a stupid step if Kubo were to write that.

You must also understand that his mask being shattered or not is irrelevant has long has he's able to completely take control over his reiatsu. That being said, his emotional stability is also a very important aspect so that his reiryoku energy does not begin floating in an uncontrollable way, cause that diminishes his fighting capabilities. This applies to every beings capable of controlling and manipulating reiryoku energy. Anything that might disturb one's reiatsu is a window to being defeated.
