Even more so, he fears that when he loses or dies, everyone will die, a huge burden is on him and even then even if he dies, the hollow in him will take over and cause chaos without anything holding him back All while having the other psychological issue that he was really there just for the sake of fighting, and not really for Orihime Man soul was completely conflicted that his power level was already strong but wavering, In the end he is still a teen who is very inexperienced and forced into this scenario where he doesn't really know how to face nor how or where to start to solve The hollow in him knew that he is very easily shaken and gave a very easy ultimatum for both of them to survive even if it means getting him beaten up, don't lose or die, you want more power, prove to me that you are more than capable and worthy, fall back to your instinct, your real self And it has always been to protect his friends, against all odds, but to Ichigo, it was a vague term, he didn't really understood Really love Bleach because of this philosophical and internal mental state unlike other shounen where it was a case of he is a threat, MC grow stronger to beat him and repeat till end of story. And while this is similar case for Bleach, it tackles on their mental state

@thebermuda99 and it didn't help with the censorship that it felt like the stakes weren't high If you were to compare the fights in the source between SS arc and Hueco Arc SS were more like civilised police in a sense, like Chad vs Shunsui, he lived while Hueco, everyone is like a hoodlum and out for blood, any mistake you make and you are as good as goner.. And I hate that the censorship made it look less of a struggle. Like the real injuries they had, wasn't showcased Like Raged Hollow Ichigo cutting Uryu arm vs attacking him. The impact is just too different..or Rangiku getting her abdomen torn apart in an instant compared to a "smack" from the fused beast

Without self-awareness, like her brother. But thanks to Nel's words, Orihime realizes that the Ichigo she knows is still there. Thanks to that, Ichigo can free himself from his chains and concentrate on beating Grimmjow. And at the end, when the mask disappears, it is in the act of respect that Ichigo shows by not letting grimmjow fall. He shows that he is still human. The same kind person who is very empathic just like Orihime and who fights to protect and defeat his enemies, not kill them.

Orhime is a very kind charachter who doesn't want to see anyone get hurt. Her power is perfect for her. Definitley my favorite female charachter in Bleach

to be fair to orihime, she's a high school girl living alone after her brother died twice, once as human and once as hollow. she rarely talks about her feelings and never gone to therapy and this fight is happening in anime time, realistically you're not going to get over trauma in the span of a single fight like it takes years of work
That soundtrack when Grimmjow release his zanpakuto, Power to strive, is honestly one of the best in all of Bleach !! It's so glorious...Also his ressurection is top 3 really, both in transformation and design !!
Grimmjow and his fraccion are a great exemple to explore the world of the Hollow turning to Adjuchas....Something more seems to be needed to become Vasto Lorde but they didn't find it.

Since you did ask, and I'm 99% sure it's been explained already, anyone with strong enough control over spirit energy can create platforms out of the reishi in the air. Its the same concept as how they built the bridge inside of the Garganta when they first came to Hueco Mundo. This is even easier in a place like Hueco Mundo, where the concentration of reishi is especially high. That's how they do flips and shit in the air.
Chick in the middle is the only one really paying attention and taking in how cool the fight is. The two guys, same with most of their reactions, are just focused on making references, jokes or sexual innuendos.
First time watching this fight, I was also frustrated with Orihime being scared. Took me much longer to realize she had been dealing with her own trauma that made this moment harder for her. Thank you to Nel for helping her realize what was going on.

When I first watched Bleach I didn’t even know what a filler was, so when I went from 167 to 168 the difference was ridiculous. And then I watched the whole arc, the experience is indescribable.

Something I never realized the first time through... one of the Hollows that followed Grimmjow was called Shawlong, he was one of the Arracars that attacked Karakura Town. Grimjoww didn't kill his friends (followers), even for the sake of gaining more power, unless you can partially eat a Hollow to get power, as opposed to fully consuming it.
Ichigo X Orihime is not the greatest love story ever told, true, but it's a sweet relationship-the how they get closer and closer, and it definitely adds something extra to the story as a whole.

Rukia wouldn’t have been afraid because she has no stakes in it. Orihime has the concern associated with her brother losing himself as a hollow and she’s afraid that very same thing will happen to the love of her life.
Rukia and Orihime both have different roles in the story. Rukia "stops" the rain in Ichigo's world, whereas Orihime helps him "wither" the rain (Just read poem of volume 3 and notice how Orihime creates bonds with different people thru pain and actually expressing it)
To all ppl hating on orihime you guys never experience what real PTSD is. Is not something you can cure so easily, in orihime case she is afraid of hollow bcz of her late brother and the person she really care ichigo is starting to looks like hollow which terrified her the most. Ichigo came here to save orihime, but when he use his hollow power to fight grimjow he was holding back his power bcz he doesnt want to show his hollow like fighting style to orihime. Ichigo actually can beat Grimjow but he was holding back bcz of orihime. Imagine you are tryng to save the person you care but that person is afraid of u bcz u starting to become a monster. Ichigo understand that orihime didnt like his hollow form and start to fight grimjow as humanly/soul reaper like. When orihime said the word that ichigo need the most, it encourage him to give all out power and its not some bullsht power up shounen mc.
I wouldn’t really see Rukia as mature, but she does carry herself as a warrior. It’s also important to note that in the Soul Society Arc she wanted nothing more than to die though. And even during this arc she was fine with what she would consider to be Kaien killing her if it was really him. She is indeed 150, and she has the experience and psychological impact that would have but still. It’s just important to note her problems are of different quality, where maturity is not really a point where it comes from.
And yes it is important to note Orihime is like 15/16 here. Though they joke about it. So she has the emotional vulnerability and instability that would be associated with it, not to debilitating degrees but still.
The way I saw it, Grimmjow started losing only at the very end when Ichigo was able to overpower his ultimate technique. Grimmjow was definitely caught off guard by Ichigo's initial strength and being bored and all, resulting in hat slash across the chest, but, even after that, Ichigo was mainly on the defensive for the entire fight, but I don't know if that speaks to either one's strength or Grimmjow just being desperate and Ichigo waiting for perfect moments to counter attack. Ichigo vs Grimmjow fully released is one of my fav fights in Bleach, and Grimmjow is one of my fav characters (only 2nd to Zaraki).
The main problem is Orihime is realizing that Ichigo is a battle addict like Kenpachi. The fear that he only came there to fight & not really there to rescue her in earnest.

Bleach went through a lot of censoring. From nudity (the female espada for example is more covered up in anime) to wounds not appearing as bad as they actually are. Darkened blood is one of that censoring too, so it looks less like blood. One thing to note, not related to censoring, but seems to be a theme in Bleach that characters can get sliced up a crap ton, but when they get pierced then its a serious injury. xD

They drew George Bush in the Akatsuki's coat with some Akatsuki members around him. Deidara: "Again, WHY is George Bush in the Akatsuki?" G.W.: "Silly DD, American censorship will make anime characters bleed oil!" Deidara and Kisama look at him in shock as he chuckles evilly.
You missed a point here. Grimmjow ate a portion of each of his allies masks, which froze their evolution (this is why Rukia could kill the weakest in his group so easily--he had a portion of his mask eaten by Grimmjow 3,000 hollows earlier than the others, and so he was much weaker). When they became Arrancar, the rules completely changed for them, as their sword prevents their power from back-sliding and they no longer have the endless hunger or need to keep consuming hollows to prevent reversion. Effectively, they can survive in the same way that Shinigami do, on food and latent energy of places like Heuco Mundo (eg. Nel doesn't eat souls and has no need to because she is an arrancar).
Great reaction when I was a kid orihimi used to piss me off but the more I watched I realize her trauma and began to like her more as a character she not a fighter and don’t believe in the risk of doing what it takes to win. Ichigo had no choice it was either use the hollow powers to protect his friends or be consumed by it. She didn’t understand until nel woke her up.
The way Orihime’s “healing” works is that she restores what she’s conscious of, like a missing limb or whatever, but I do believe that she could be like Eri, from My Hero Academia, and have the potential to completely factory reset anyone and anything, if they don’t resist.
Her “healing” ability works by rejecting the reality of the damage of a subject. Her powers are influenced by her view of reality and her beliefs. Her own confidence of her power and how she views how reality should be are her limiters.
Now that this fight is wrapping up, I need to leave my obligatory "grimmjow is awesome" story. I just love him so much. One of the best character designs. His Ressurrecion is so cool. And I love his little flash back. It serves a lot to flashing out Hollows and Hueco Mundo and their whole culture. This cannibalistic eat or be eaten culture, where you NEED to eat or else suffer going back to Gilian. The fact that his fraction asked to be eaten suggests they'd prefer that to going back to losing their individuality. Being a Gillian must be hell. And when they chose Grimmjow as their king, then left him in a way, asking him to eat them, but unable to accompany them further....yet somehow they still made Arrancar. So he found them again after they were turned. They were loyal to him but all of them died. And at the time seemingly Grimmjow didn't care at all. Maybe once you've eaten your comrades to evolve and for power, you don't mind so much if they die? It just shows how brutal that world is. I think at first when I saw him, I thought he was a bit like Kenpachi/Ikkaku with this 'fight to the death' mentality, who just enjoys fighting and doesn't give up as long as he's still standing, seeking out the strongest opponent. But it's far more instinctual for the hollows, it's like a need, basic survival. I assume that part of why the executioners kill Arrancar that lose (like the former espada) is because Aizen doesn't care much for them, but I also think that most of it, is just within their culture. Ultimately, though you MIGHT enjoy fighting, you don't fight because you enjoy it or because you want to fight. You fight and kill because you have to, because it's in their nature, and you have to if you want to get stronger. And even now, that they don't have to anymore, because they won't go back to Gillian, they still live accordingly.
I just want to acknowledge how incredible this episode is. I feel like these days this fight(or this section of it, I admit my memory of this whole arc is foggy.) would have been stretched over 2 episodes, or Ichigo would've won but Orihime's fear would have become an unnecessary sub plot that wouldn't be resolved for at least like... 3+ more episodes. Nope, this episode is like "We won't make you wait, and we're not gonna drag anything out with Orihime's internal conflict around Ichigo's Hollow state. Ichigo is gonna win this episode, and we'll make the resolution of Orihime's fear the reason." Simple and Clean, no bs. It's ridiculous how few shows try to pull that off with important battles like this. Some have the excuse that the battles genuinely are just that long, but they're actually kinda rare I feel. Maybe that's all just me tho, who knows.

the orihime scene was so corny to me im sorrysdkfjlhlf, it rlly is a hit or miss for the fans of this show. also ichigo is not actually as pure as we think he is, this arc centers around ichigo accepting his hollow side, which also represents his crave for fight, his instinct, his pleasure from battle. he struggles to see it and accept it but you'll notice almost every opponent he faces points it out to him that he is hollow by nature, he has that crave/instinct to battle, not only for the pure reason to protect but to get stronger, to feel that adrenaline. grimmjow points it out to him, so does ulqiorra but ichigo denies it every time, that's why this arc is very interesting to me in terms of ichigo's self discovery.
Funny you mention that. I saw Bleach near the beginning of my anime journey and I didn’t know what a filler was at the time. So when I got to this point and the filler kicked in, it was so jarring it’s hilarious in retrospect. It was such a ridiculous jump.

The word boring in japanese is used differently than in english... when they are not amused by something or when their expectations are betrayed, or when someone does not do what you expected them to do in general... for example a bully tries to pick on a kid and the kid by taking away his ball but he bullied kid just turns around and does something else... the bully would say... tsk... let's go somewhere else... this is boring... It is more like tsk... i expected something more interesting... but in japanese the wording is... this is boring...
Nah Ichigo was overpowering Grimmjow with the mask since their second fight back in Karakura. The only reason he lost back then was because his 11 secs where over. The only difference now is that Grimmjow released which is what made the fight closer but still Ichigo favored. The outcome of this fight is very logical
I can't get with Orihime. She saw him training with the Visoreds, knew how he was getting stronger, and the strain he was putting himself under to that end. She left to protect him(and potentially buy him time to get stronger?) but ended up drawing him into enemy territory. And then there is the stuff later...

First time watching this fight, I was also frustrated with Orihime being scared. Took me much longer to realize she had been dealing with her own trauma that made this moment harder for her. Thank you to Nel for helping her realize what was going on.

When I first watched Bleach I didn’t even know what a filler was, so when I went from 167 to 168 the difference was ridiculous. And then I watched the whole arc, the experience is indescribable.

Something I never realized the first time through... one of the Hollows that followed Grimmjow was called Shawlong, he was one of the Arracars that attacked Karakura Town. Grimjoww didn't kill his friends (followers), even for the sake of gaining more power, unless you can partially eat a Hollow to get power, as opposed to fully consuming it.
Ichigo X Orihime is not the greatest love story ever told, true, but it's a sweet relationship-the how they get closer and closer, and it definitely adds something extra to the story as a whole.
Of course they had a simple dating life ( as kubo hinted they dated in college years)

Rukia and Orihime both have different roles in the story. Rukia "stops" the rain in Ichigo's world, whereas Orihime helps him "wither" the rain (Just read poem of volume 3 and notice how Orihime creates bonds with different people thru pain and actually expressing it)

To all ppl hating on orihime you guys never experience what real PTSD is. Is not something you can cure so easily, in orihime case she is afraid of hollow bcz of her late brother and the person she really care ichigo is starting to looks like hollow which terrified her the most.
Ichigo came here to save orihime, but when he use his hollow power to fight grimjow he was holding back his power bcz he doesnt want to show his hollow like fighting style to orihime. Ichigo actually can beat Grimjow but he was holding back bcz of orihime. Imagine you are tryng to save the person you care but that person is afraid of u bcz u starting to become a monster. Ichigo understand that orihime didnt like his hollow form and start to fight grimjow as humanly/soul reaper like.

I wouldn’t really see Rukia as mature, but she does carry herself as a warrior. It’s also important to note that in the Soul Society Arc she wanted nothing more than to die though. And even during this arc she was fine with what she would consider to be Kaien killing her if it was really him. She is indeed 150, and she has the experience and psychological impact that would have but still. It’s just important to note her problems are of different quality, where maturity is not really a point where it comes from.
And yes it is important to note Orihime is like 15/16 here. Though they joke about it. So she has the emotional vulnerability and instability that would be associated with it, not to debilitating degrees but still.
The way I saw it, Grimmjow started losing only at the very end when Ichigo was able to overpower his ultimate technique. Grimmjow was definitely caught off guard by Ichigo's initial strength and being bored and all, resulting in hat slash across the chest, but, even after that, Ichigo was mainly on the defensive for the entire fight, but I don't know if that speaks to either one's strength or Grimmjow just being desperate and Ichigo waiting for perfect moments to counter attack. Ichigo vs Grimmjow fully released is one of my fav fights in Bleach, and Grimmjow is one of my fav characters (only 2nd to Zaraki).
The main problem is Orihime is realizing that Ichigo is a battle addict like Kenpachi. The fear that he only came there to fight & not really there to rescue her in earnest.

Bleach went through a lot of censoring. From nudity (the female espada for example is more covered up in anime) to wounds not appearing as bad as they actually are. Darkened blood is one of that censoring too, so it looks less like blood.
One thing to note, not related to censoring, but seems to be a theme in Bleach that characters can get sliced up a crap ton, but when they get pierced then its a serious injury. xD

You missed a point here. Grimmjow ate a portion of each of his allies masks, which froze their evolution (this is why Rukia could kill the weakest in his group so easily--he had a portion of his mask eaten by Grimmjow 3,000 hollows earlier than the others, and so he was much weaker). When they became Arrancar, the rules completely changed for them, as their sword prevents their power from back-sliding and they no longer have the endless hunger or need to keep consuming hollows to prevent reversion. Effectively, they can survive in the same way that Shinigami do, on food and latent energy of places like Heuco Mundo (eg. Nel doesn't eat souls and has no need to because she is an arrancar).
It's not over yet.
I can't wait till they catch up to the new season.

The way Orihime’s “healing” works is that she restores what she’s conscious of, like a missing limb or whatever, but I do believe that she could be like Eri, from My Hero Academia, and have the potential to completely factory reset anyone and anything, if they don’t resist.
Her “healing” ability works by rejecting the reality of the damage of a subject. Her powers are influenced by her view of reality and her beliefs. Her own confidence of her power and how she views how reality should be are her limiters.
Now that this fight is wrapping up, I need to leave my obligatory "grimmjow is awesome" story. I just love him so much. One of the best character designs. His Ressurrecion is so cool. And I love his little flash back. It serves a lot to flashing out Hollows and Hueco Mundo and their whole culture. This cannibalistic eat or be eaten culture, where you NEED to eat or else suffer going back to Gilian. The fact that his fraction asked to be eaten suggests they'd prefer that to going back to losing their individuality. Being a Gillian must be hell. And when they chose Grimmjow as their king, then left him in a way, asking him to eat them, but unable to accompany them further....yet somehow they still made Arrancar. So he found them again after they were turned. They were loyal to him but all of them died. And at the time seemingly Grimmjow didn't care at all. Maybe once you've eaten your comrades to evolve and for power, you don't mind so much if they die? It just shows how brutal that world is.
I think at first when I saw him, I thought he was a bit like Kenpachi/Ikkaku with this 'fight to the death' mentality, who just enjoys fighting and doesn't give up as long as he's still standing, seeking out the strongest opponent. But it's far more instinctual for the hollows, it's like a need, basic survival. I assume that part of why the executioners kill Arrancar that lose (like the former espada) is because Aizen doesn't care much for them, but I also think that most of it, is just within their culture. Ultimately, though you MIGHT enjoy fighting, you don't fight because you enjoy it or because you want to fight. You fight and kill because you have to, because it's in their nature, and you have to if you want to get stronger. And even now, that they don't have to anymore, because they won't go back to Gillian, they still live accordingly.

I just want to acknowledge how incredible this episode is.
I feel like these days this fight(or this section of it, I admit my memory of this whole arc is foggy.) would have been stretched over 2 episodes, or Ichigo would've won but Orihime's fear would have become an unnecessary sub plot that wouldn't be resolved for at least like... 3+ more episodes.
Nope, this episode is like "We won't make you wait, and we're not gonna drag anything out with Orihime's internal conflict around Ichigo's Hollow state. Ichigo is gonna win this episode, and we'll make the resolution of Orihime's fear the reason."
Simple and Clean, no bs. It's ridiculous how few shows try to pull that off with important battles like this. Some have the excuse that the battles genuinely are just that long, but they're actually kinda rare I feel.
Maybe that's all just me tho, who knows.

Btw, don't know if ya'will skip every filler, because there's a couple that might be good to react because of how fun those are (287 and 304), it's only 2 episodes of filler each and are not to take seriously but for the LOLs. the orihime scene was so corny to me im sorrysdkfjlhlf, it rlly is a hit or miss for the fans of this show. also ichigo is not actually as pure as we think he is, this arc centers around ichigo accepting his hollow side, which also represents his crave for fight, his instinct, his pleasure from battle. he struggles to see it and accept it but you'll notice almost every opponent he faces points it out to him that he is hollow by nature, he has that crave/instinct to battle, not only for the pure reason to protect but to get stronger, to feel that adrenaline. grimmjow points it out to him, so does ulqiorra but ichigo denies it every time, that's why this arc is very interesting to me in terms of ichigo's self discovery.

Funny you mention that. I saw Bleach near the beginning of my anime journey and I didn’t know what a filler was at the time. So when I got to this point and the filler kicked in, it was so jarring it’s hilarious in retrospect. It was such a ridiculous jump.

Nah Ichigo was overpowering Grimmjow with the mask since their second fight back in Karakura. The only reason he lost back then was because his 11 secs where over. The only difference now is that Grimmjow released which is what made the fight closer but still Ichigo favored. The outcome of this fight is very logical

I can't get with Orihime. She saw him training with the Visoreds, knew how he was getting stronger, and the strain he was putting himself under to that end. She left to protect him(and potentially buy him time to get stronger?) but ended up drawing him into enemy territory. And then there is the stuff later...
