    Thanks Thomas. I just bought my Allroad 2.0 Tfsi this week - pleased to move back to petrol.
    Great to see a full length review of the Allroad and of course to see you (and Autogefühl) cover the car in detail - you had a but better weather than Holger did in his short review - no cats and dogs today :-)
    After taking your advise I ordered my car with alcantara rather than the leather (animal skin) and I am pleased to have chosen it. I know this subject is close to your heart. Some leather still on the side bolsters but not so much.
    I ordered many of the options and I agree the dynamic steering is worth having - for me a real pleasure.
    My children have enjoyed learning about the new technology.
    I agree with your likes and your criticisms. More room is needed in the rear passenger space.
    I will keep a check on the braking question next time there is heavy rain.
    As always a big thanks to everyone at Autogefühl

    • @newbeginnings8566

      For me it is just fine. I had a A4 3.0tdi quattro before. That had a certain longer power surge at certain speeds but in general use this 252BHP engine feels very good to me with excellent acceleration. Yes you'll lose economy but I like the lack of rattle of the engine and the enjoy not having smell from the diesel exhaust.
      I do not regret choosing the petrol version and don't miss the diesel at all.

    I own the current generation A6 Allroad and I can report that as a type of vehicle, it works extremely well. Perfect on-road handling and comfort, no lean at all, and better ground clearance than Nissan Qashqai and Toyota RAV4. Definitely preferable to a crossover. The A4 Allroad seems very similar except for the variable ground clearance that the A6's air suspension provides. I also strongly recommend the tiptronic to the S-tronic. It's leaps and bounds better to drive and has better reliability and lower maintenance costs.

    Hi Thomas, great review! I bought the allroad last year and have had zero problems with over 12,000 miles on it. My passengers always comment on how smooth and quiet the car is. Here in Southern California, we can only get the allroad with the 2.0. I guess my only complaint, is that here in the USA, we can not get it with a trailer hitch.

    I like this concept way more than actual SUVs. It’s a pretty decent compromise and the sensible choice. But the sensible choice seems to not really apply so much at the moment. In Europe, huge numbers of people are brainwashed into thinking they need a bigger car than they actually do because of a huge marketing push by the auto manufacturers. Every time I hear an ad for a car manufacturer it’s about their crossover line or ‘which KIA SUV is right for you?’ for example.
    But anyway, I like the car and the feeling of having a bigger car but without the actual size is really cool.

    The allroad models of Audi (A6, A4) are really great alternatives for a SUV because they aren`t that heavy and huge. Nevertheless you have a higher seating position than in a “classic” estate! I would always prefer an allroad model over a SUV. Well done 👏

    Hello Thomas, I took delivery of this car in January of this year and drove to Geneva (from Luxemburg) in March. During the return journey it was raining hard and I experienced the very same incident you spoke about in the video. Upon braking the car jerked (rather violently) to the left. I tried it a few times and it happened at least 4 more times. I complained to the local Audi garage and a test drive was organised. Unfortunately it was not raining and the car did not manifest the same problem. It does not inspire a great deal of confidence knowing that this is a known problem with A4's (my garage denies all knowledge). Other than that it is a great car: very economical (on a long motorway trip with 5 adults and luggage driving at a steady 130 km/h I averaged 6.2 l/100 kms). It is pretty fast, sporty, the V6 sounds great and it is very comfortable......BUT knowing that this problem exists I contemplate replacing the car soon.........

    Very good review. I have not experienced the braking problem. Here in the US we have few options for a sport wagon, I am happy with my allroad. Fun to drive on country and mountain roads especially. The price is a real issue, if Audi goes much higher in future, they will price owners out of the A4 tier.

      @@roverroko306 Sure thing, i got the 2 litre 190hp diesel engine. It's not the fasttest, but the gearbox works great, so it feels much quicker then it really is. Also in Norway there is no speedlimit above 100, so no point on the petrol engine for me. But 2+ years after i bought it i still love it, not been a single problem with it.

  • @jdpb63
    @jdpb63 Před 6 lety

    Great review. The 2.0 engine is the only choice in the US. I love the exterior and the A4 dash, and seriously considered it -- wanting the driving characteristics of a sedan and the utility of a wagon -- but went with a Q5 Prestige for a few reasons: 1) the Allroad is priced a few thousand more than the Q5; 2) back seat legroom would soon be tight for my growing kids; 3) when I road tested it, it drove less like an A4 sedan than I expected (floatier and a bit wandering); 4) when all the other cars are SUVs, and you lose forward visibility in a wagon, and 5) in the US, it is rare and has more of an "elite" status -- the Outback for rich people. And another thing: the Audi sales guys seemed to sell away from Allroads and push me towards Q5s.

    Hi Thomas - FANTASTIC review as always. Nice A4 Allroad. I think I prefer the Passat Alltrack - lot more space in the back, I like the interior, it's just a little longer, and is less money. If you want a more compact 4WD, then you could spec-up a SWB Tiguan Comfortline, or SEL, with every extra, and this is less money still - and is more comfortable in the back seats than an A4; and is similarly equipped with HUD, 3-Zone, DCC, Active Info Display, Area View, LED's, etc.

    Agree this a complete and very sovereign machine, like Thomas would state. Thomas I must say, I was so irritated by this Merc which just interrupted your train off thought exactly when you're talking about a very interesting part about this crossover. The ZF 8 speed torque converter gearbox. BTW your should have continued to talk about this transmission and quattro setup, I really wanted to know every detail about it's performance. As I said before, unfortunately your review of Audi A4 with this higher powered V6 tdi is the first review to mention this very important fact about the difference drive train and quattro. Maybe some people don't realise it's not a small difference but a very important one, at least to a passionate driver. I would really like to see a review for this type of setup in Audi A4, either this or Saloon S-line with V6 tdi 272hp and permanent quattro done just about this difference on offer. Ofcourse the performance and the feeling, which is better at what e.c.t. None the less Thomas you are one of the CZcamsrs who really knows what to talk about when reviewing a specific vehicle, thus interested parties can always learn something new. Which should be the point of this in the first place. ☻😉

    I'd love to own an A4 Allroad, however, the price is hard to justify. I ended up buying a 2018 VW Alltrack SE for half the price of an Audi. It's not an Audi, but it does everything I need with ease - and in a very sporty manner.

    I wonder how that road signs recognition works? It only shows what it sees? How flexible it is? For example if you leave the city then speed limit sets to say 90 even without explicit speed signs, what limit it shows then? Or if there is speed limit before crossroad, which ends by default after it (I think it applies to Germany as well).

    1- great, detailed review from a mostly non-technical perspective. Great info for the everyday, casual viewer.
    2- excellent video quality and editing. So many other fall way short of what you have done here.
    3- I love that you merged onto the highway at precisely 100 km/h. Very German.

    Htc Thomas, you know I just have to share Info on this fact with you. There's so many, sorry to say Idiots now day's making and streaming reviews on CZcams. People who don't know the first thing about a vehicle or anything else they are filming reviews about. Just so irritating and hard to watch sometimes. On the other hand it's exceptional when a person who really knows what they are doing makes reviews. In this case just like you. For example in like 100 reviews about the A4 B9 I have seen so far. The 3.0 tdi 272hp quattro permanent is the one I am interested in and will probably buy 3 years old this summer. Not one reviewer mentioned the crucial difference in the 3.0 tdi 272hp quattro, transmission and gearbox system's when compared to all the rest. And in my mind, I am a huge motorhead and vehicles enthusiast ever since I can remember. Anyway, to me this is a very important and crucial peace of information about this Audi, or A4 Saloon S-line, with this same power output as I will probably buy it. Just mega, and not one self proclaimed Automotive journalist has mentioned this. So thanks Thomas, really keep up the good work. Nice jacket BTW ☻☻😉

After 2-3 pumps on break pedal it was much better but just for 10-15km. Unfortunately the same scenario came back few times for entire 150km trip. Definetly this has to do with water on the road and heavy rain. No such problem with breaks on dry roads. Few times on 150km distance also had few left/right issue drag with breaks. I will report this today to local dealership and ask for inspection during planned service. Very dangerous! And annoying when there is no full brake assistance available on heavy rain!

    Is there a specific reason why Audi’s backseats don’t fold down after the leaver is pulled Thomas? For an Audi I find that rather embarrassing. Other brands are doing this a lot better. Definitely something Audi needs to work on if there is no reason for them not to fold down.

This removes water from the disc and pad surfaces, and helps to maintain the braking performance of dry weather." Still doesn't explain why the car pulls to the left tough.

    I've been to a big VW dealership yesterday and checked everything from Seat to Porsche's. Porsche is the only VW Group brand that seems to have distanced themselves from the VW design by adding another layer of quality in their interiors. Even the Audi's have that plastic-y new VW smell, just as the Seats, Skodas and VWs.
    I don't know what but there is something that gives off a "this car isn't actually that quality" vibe in them. There are plastic parts in places that you can tell VW was trying to save 5 cents on, like the little hard plastic strip between the steering wheel and the dials. Also, all their cars have the exact same steering wheel except the Beetle. I'm quite disappointed with VW and even Audi to be honest. The A6 (with the last gen interior) was the only car that felt original.

    Der Dreht bei 100 kmh ca. 1800u/min und gurkt nicht bei 1200 u/min herum.
    Außerdem entsteht im nicht optimalen drehzahlbereich mehr ruß was auch zur erhöhten motorölbelastung fürht und auch den dpf stärker belastet.
    Mmn eine fehlentscheidung die die getriebe der aktuellen autos so zu programmieren. Es ist zwar leiser im innenraum aber die Konsequenzen sind es nicht wert.

    • @Digi20
      @Digi20 Před 6 lety

      Jein.
      Dieser Bereich vom Kennfeld, in dem der Motor am effektivsten Läuft, liegt meist bei annähernd Volllast (sagen wir 90% Last) bei etwa 1/3-1/2 Motordrehzahl.
      Wenn du also beim Benziner einen Gang wählst, mit dem du eine Steigung bei annähernd Volllast mit 2500rpm und konstanter Geschwindigkeit rauf fährst, liegt da dein Verbrauchs Minimum. Den Berg stattdessen mit Halbgas in einem kleineren Gang rauf fahren wird mehr Verbrauchen.
      Nun ist es aber so, dass wir heute keine 20PS Motoren mehr fahren, und die Maschine beim dahin rollen mit z.b. 100kmh in der Ebene völlig gelangweilt ist, und in einen schlechten Wirkungsgrad fällt (das ist der untere Bereich des Muscheldiagrams).
      Wie kann ich diesen Wirkungsgrad nun steigern? In dem ich ihr mehr Last abverlange.
      Wie mache ich das? Ich übersetze das Getriebe im größten Gang so lang, dass es fast volle Motorkraft benötigt, um das Tempo zu halten.
      Dadurch klettert mein Betriebspunkt im Muscheldiagram wieder nach oben.
      Dass es jetzt eventuell etwas zu wenig Drehzahl ist, um ganz perfekt im Betriebspunkt zu liegen, macht nicht viel aus. Einen kleineren Gang mit (viel) mehr Drehzahl, dafür weniger Last zu wählen, wäre deutlich weniger Effektiv.
      Deshalb werden heute ja 8, 9 und 10 Gang Getriebe gebaut, um diesen optimalen Betriebspunkt über einen breiten Geschwindigkeitsbereich zu halten. Generell sollte die Getriebesteuerung da schon wissen, was sie macht, und 1000rpm 90% Gas könnten effektiver als 1300 Touren 70% Gas sein.
      Mit dem Downsizing und/oder Zylinderabschaltung versucht man übrigens das Gleiche. Beispiel 1.4er TSI mit Zylinderabschaltung: 2 Zylinder mit effektiv 0,7 Litern Hubraum müssen schwerer arbeiten, als 4 Zylinder mit 1,4 Litern Hubraum, und verschieben dadurch die Last vom Motor in den oberen Kennfeldbereich vom Muscheldiagram. Klingt komisch, is aber so.
      Im Idealfall hätte man ein Getriebe, welches eine unendlich weite Übersetzung dynamisch zur Verfügung stellen kann. Und einen Motor, der dynamisch seinen Hubraum verändern kann. Das versucht man ja auch mit CVT und x-Gang Getrieben, und Zylinderabschaltung.

    • @withstyle7816
      @withstyle7816 Před 6 lety

      Danke für die ausführliche Antwort.
      Also entweder interpretiere ich das muscheldiagramm falsch oder es stimmt nicht das bei 1000 u/min und viel last der motor weniger verbraucht als bei zb ca 2000u/min und 80% last.
      Denn bei 100% last und 1000u/min ist bei jedem muscheldiagramm nie der optimale betriebspunkt und der geringste verbrauch - sieht man auch an der oft eingezeichneten kurve...
      Was auch nicht zu vernachlässigen ist das bei kaltem motor und solch niedrigen drehzahlen bei 500-600nm last ist auch nicht gerade optimal da der motor da viel rauher läuft und diese meistens dann nicht mal mehr die 200tsd km marke ohne schaden schaffen.
