    Just bought a 2018 CPO A4 allroad good through Oct. 30 2024 and 120,000 KM, has squeaky clean Carfax. 37,000 KM. For you milers, aboot (hehe since I live in the GWN) 23,000 miles. With tax and fees, just under CAD$50,000.00, and we certainly pay taxes here and its a privilege. This is your suggestion from a three year old video. Thanks for this. You guys are great!

    Thanks for the video. I also own a 2019 vw alltrack. Really love awd with the manual transmission. The 4motion works great. It has no issues navigating Snowy mountain roads in Colorado and for the money I think its a very great car. If you are a fan of german machines. I think the all road is a beautiful machine. But your average family man like me the volkswagen is alot more practical for the money spent.

    Another great video. What are your thoughts on a Sportwagon with AWD, vs the VW Alltrack? In 90% city driving in the Midwest so the only real need for AWD is winter months. My bigger concern is it being a fun to drive practical vehicle. Lotta roundabouts in my city that are a blast to zip through.

    • @J-W.-
      @J-W.- Před 6 lety

      I would say sportwagen lower ride height mean and feels more nimble not by that much probaly but certainly more, but if i recall coreectly the transmission are different, I think you get a regular 6 speed auto instead of a dual clutch and i believe some safety tech is not avaliable on the Alltrack, correct me if im wrong someone, i have taken a look at the updated 2018 versions.

    • @AndrewBeveridge461
      @AndrewBeveridge461 Před 4 lety

      The biggest thing in my opinion is that the Alltrack has a significantly nicer interior than the Sportwagen. Either one would be a really interesting platform for mods, especially with a 6MT.

    Great review guys! Now, in the GWN at 230'ish meters above SL, and certainly more capable off-roaders in our fleet, we bought the allroad last month. Nice CPO. We first bought a used 2002 A6 allroad, then a 2006 A6 Avant that wouldn't even do the entrance to Stage 1 and not by a long shot. Maybe not even the parking lot. Had it for 13 years and 300,000 KM (figure it out guys). Almost cried when I sold it for $3,000.00 after a new driver in our home backed it into our house and DRS quarter panel pushed in. Ugly. Well, maybe a little tear and it was time and there are likely hundreds of parts finding their way to their next home at this very moment.
    15% grade on a paved, 205 ft. (love to play with Imperial and Metric) driveway and took over a week to sort the winter tires and wheels.
    Finally! Snow and freezing rain last night. This A4 allroad is new to us as we only own one Audi at a time - so far. My lovely wife went to pickup our daughter at her PT (believe it or not in the GWN) Dairy Queen job and I showed her the hill descent control function. I should have filmed it. 15% (yes, more maths) grade and it just sorted the entire descent. Just for shits and giggles I sent it - well sent my wife - down the grade checking the ride with the winter tires. I highly recommend winter tires. Or a the very least TRUE four season tires if perhaps you use a pickup truck and use Rotivas. Trust me, people. They work and around 10% of the K02 tire roar.
    Buy a good CPO of either one of the alltrack or allroad as North Americans in general don't like wagons and you can always use a wagon over any small crossover and get a deal. Just get the CPO if you are on a fixed budget and maintain it well. Our experience with Audi has been great for decades. Just have to be ready to pay for out of warranty and know you have done the best to keep that preventative and actual maintenance over the time you've owned it, then decide if you still love it.

    I know I am a little late to the conversation here, but the 0 to 60 time should be done by the same person so there is as little human error as possible as the 2 people drive differently. Also the Altrack was minimum half a second off from its actual 0 to 60 speed of 7.5. I have been lucky enough to get mine as low as 7.25 with my 2017stock Alltrack automatic. I am very pleased with my Alltrack, it feels extremly zippy on the highway, much more so than my former 2016 chevy cruze that I had before it.

  • @ChrisDiscovers
    @ChrisDiscovers Před 6 lety +21

    Really these two cars aren’t in the same class, the VW Golf Alltrack is based on the MQB chassis, where as the Audi A4 Allroad is based on the MLB chassis which is a class up size-wise in chassis and in overall dimensions and is also much heavier and uses a longitudinally mounted engine set up over the MQB’s Transverse engine set up which also lends to two completely different all wheel drive systems (front wheel drive adapted into all wheel drive system which electronically sends power to the rear vs. a mechanical all wheel drive system that now has an electronic coupler to disconnect the rear when cruising). I do understand their reasoning behind the transmission choice for the Allroad as generally manual is regarded as the better transmission choice for off-roading but just like they said the manual in the Alltrack is built for economy not off-roading so it wouldn’t actually be an advantage and if they would’ve chose the other transmission choice it would’ve been a dual clutch transmission as well just a 6 speed instead of 7 speed.

    • @mindspinn311
      @mindspinn311 Před 5 lety

    Regarding the comments on impressive high altitude 0-60 times...The turbocharger compensates for the lower air density at altitude. With a naturally aspirated engine, you'll lose approx. 3% of your engine's power output per 1k ft of elevation gain. A turbocharged engine, in contrast, can modulate boost pressure to compress more air and compensate for the power loss (within the limits of air volume/intake capacity/maximum turbo shaft speed)
    TL;DR turbo engines lose less power at altitude compared to non-turbo engines

      Gregory Trane manual is better at controlling downhill speed, and you have also more control over how you apply power to the wheels via clutch. Automatic could be hunting for gear (though you could switch it to manual mode, but it still auto-upshifts for you).

      If the Audi was a DSG they're both clutch based. The DSG is hopefully the wet clutch version, which won't smell as bad, but will still overheat if you inch it along. Torque convertor autos are nicer off road in cars without a low box, though not as good for controlled descending (Without a low box you'll probably be on the brakes in both cars anyway though) but you pay for toque convertor autos it in crappy fuel economy for the whole life of the car - the modern autos are probably competitive on efficiency, but cost more to buy and repair.

      Agreed I have a VW that has a DSG transmission and it runs just like an Audi just less horsepower. Can't wait for APR to get new 18 2.0T tunes out so I can go troll some Audis. And I got a feeling VW is lying about the HP ratings, hopefully I'll be able to get it on a dyno late April and see if that 174 hp is accurate cause it moves a whole lot faster then it should.

    Isn't VW based on the Haldex AWD system while Allroad is Torsen which is considered much more reliable..? At least I think this was traditionally the case but perhaps this is no longer the case.

      It depends on production year, engine/transmission and market. There are A4's Allroad with torsen or with quattro ultra.

    Audi should have offered the Allroad with the air suspension available everywhere else. It's disappointing they don't offer that feature here. It would drastically improve this vehicle's ground clearance and overall ability and comfort.
