I just wanna say I HATE horror trailers that pretend it's some kind of slice of life anime before they reveal that it's actually a shitty horror film. The dumb opening with the uplifting music, the quirky couple, the dialogue sounding straight off of a YA wattpad fan fic, the whole vibe is such a mood killer I hate it. Just make them like how A24 does it it's not hard.
It’s supposed to be a jarring gotcha moment when the horror elements are revealed, but it’s been done so many times by literally every single horror trailer that it’s lost that factor entirely. Now we sit and watch the Wattpad-written characters gush about how great their life is while wondering “alright when does the ghost/demon/vengeful ex/monster/nightmare neighbour come in and ruin everything”
Id love if they'd use that trailer formula to make you think it's going to be a horror movie... But then it's just actually a wholesome slice of life romance where nothing really goes wrong. Ultimate plot twist.
I am always so glad to live in a country where all English-language films are subtitled in our language, and this is speaking as a native english speaker, it makes films so much easier to completely follow

The reaction shots in the latter part ( 13:06 on ) of the “Late Night With The Devil” trailer are what really sold me-in a way where I kinda wish Panos Kosmatos had directed. (Not to mention that the TV broadcast conceit would’ve made an excellent argument for the inclusion of a new Cheddar Goblin ad.)
The only thing that bothers me about subtitles is seeing. "I'm so very glad you could co-" And knowing a fraction of a second too soon they'll be interrupted.
First off, people in the comments need to stop deluding themselves into thinking the first movie was good. Because it wasn't. Second, studios need to stop making origin stories of horror movies. Aside from only one movie I can think of, they never work and don't actually explain anything. They're usually just cash grabs because they wrote themselves into a corner by killing the monster.
Believe it or not, much like Megan is Missing, the original movie went through somewhat of a resurgence on TikTok. I like a lot of horror related content on there and you’d be surprised by how many people actually take it very seriously

I prefer subtitles because my mom is deaf in one ear so we always watched everything with subtitles. I think it actually helped with my spelling and reading.
I would love all screenings to have subtitles but I know boomers hate them and they’d take it out on cinema staff. Weird because you’d think boomers would need them more than other demographics but I remember when I worked at a cinema they would ask specifically for screenings without subtitles all the time and they’d complain about them

This somehow looks more lifeless and dull than the 2018 one. That one was terrible, but there was some attempt to make it a little bit different from the original at least.

So this prequel is essentially a remake of the original. All the plot points are pretty much the same. Quite frankly, they need to ham this movie up like they did the second movie, have fun with it.

The original one is actually a really good simple horror movie. Takes it back to the 70’s style of horror. Building up tension. The feeling of being trapped.
We've already solved the subtitles problem. Theaters have showtimes for deaf people with descriptive audio, so you can choose. From a filmmaking standpoint, I don't want subtitles forced on my movies, just like I don't want "This is a picture of the full Moon" on my photographs.
