    I think the Light, Medium & Heavy damage weighting is important and if we attribute 1, 2 & 3 units respectively to those weightings, it totals to Jones=24 & Reyes=41, which really puts this round into perspective.
    Given that judging is under a lot of pressure for making awful decisions (and rightfully so in too many cases), maybe better technology can incorporated to consider damage weighting like Weasel has done. Even if it requires more judges and equipment I think it has merit.

      @@Getahelmet1 Hmmm, on the face of it your "popularity" comment seems unlikely, but I kinda have to agree.
      As horrendous as it sounds that judges actually might put extra favour on "popular" fighters, it often perplexed me how Jones used to scrape by with decisions on many occasions including Santos, Reyes and probably even Gustafsson.
      At moments like those it had me wondering about bribes and shonky business. We have to remember this is Big business and Big dollars so preserving the championship status, or popularity, of certain celebrities (oops I mean fighters), makes good busine$$ $en$e.
      Over time, and particularly in recent years, the UFC have shown themselves to be a shady and underhanded cabal - you only have to listen to the endless complaints by top level fighters to know this, so it's no stretch to imagine they also have financial influence over some of the otherwise-poorly paid judges.

    Damage is hard to measure. Between placement, how much power the attacker generates, the ability to absorb shots by the defender mixed in with having or not having a good poker face it’s almost impossible to get an accurate idea of what’s happening in fights these close. You move a KO shots placement an inch and the results change even though it’s thrown just as hard. How many times have we heard fighters say after they were in all sorts of trouble after what wouldn’t appear to be a heavy shot with no one aware while on the other hand some fighters have taken bombs and felt little to nothing. This isn’t specific aimed at this fight but just in general.

Even though Reyes landed the more damaging shots Jones never really showed any signs of being hurt (didnt get rocked or wobbled) and the judges might not have thought they were that good because of that. @@madgavin7568 Ok so as far as damage goes, people are coping by saying Reyes did more damage, i think the damage was pretty equal post fight. Reyes had good body shots during the fight but Jones had oct control the whole fight, the leg kicks were even too imo. A lot of Reyes kicks were checked but he couldn't check Jon's kicks as well. Jon's octagon control is what won him the fight. He stalked him hard the whole time. Jones landed a better percentage too i think. Dom hit him more but also threw more it gave the impression that Jon's strikes were more imposing than Doms even though he didn't throw them as often, i also felt like Jon figured Dom out and Dom had a harder and harder time landing anything throughout. Though Dom did land more significant strikes mainly during earlier rounds. This fight was really damn close. But Jones having him on the back foot the whole fight is a statement and Jon never really looked that bothered even after dom's best strikes. Jones was never rocked or even dazed. I could see how people think Reyes won. I personally think that Jones won. But to call it a robbery is copium. Reyes wasn't robbed, Reyes simply didn't do enough and seemingly and understandably respected Jon's striking too much to really let combos fly. You can't leave the decision to the judges. Fight could of gone either way but to say this was a great injustice with the judge's decision is ridiculous.

    • @madgavin7568
      @madgavin7568 Před 2 dny

      @@Pebbles803 Firstly, use paragraphs. It makes it much easier to read.
      Its pretty clear that when Reyes landed on Jones, his strikes had more impact than vice versa. Reyes was known to be a hitter, Jones is not. That combined with the fact Reyes out-struck Jones in terms of strikes landed in rounds 1-3, means he won the fight by default.
      Striking percentages? Not relevant. Nowhere in the scoring criteria does it say that a higher striking percentage is considered 'effective striking'. Same thing with Jones' pressure. Octagon control is the very last thing judged on scoring criteria and only comes into play when all things are equal. I can think of only one fight in recent memory where a fight can be judged down to that. But that wasn't it here, as Reyes clearly out-struck Jones in a majority of rounds.
      Jones didn't check any of Reyes' kicks. He might have blocked some but not enough for the striking totals to benefit him over Reyes. Defence isn't scored in MMA anyway, this isn't Boxing.
      This wasn't one of those 'close fights that could have gone either way' type of fights. If Reyes had gotten the decision here, you wouldn't be saying that. It was a textbook robbery, and the biggest title fight robbery in recent memory. You can't give Jones an argument for winning, what you feel is not relevant. The video evidence and the stats all favour Reyes.
      Judges are notoriously incompetent in MMA as well, sometimes corrupt. We shouldn't 'respect' their decision because they screwed up.

      Here's my take - Rob definately won 3 rounds of that fight, but Romero did a lot more damage in the two rounds that he won. That fight is great example of why I don't like the judging system, imho a winner should be the fighter who did more damage.

      Yoel 3 (not a 10-8, Rob was still answering and throwing big shots)
      Rob 4 (but he got rocked at the end of it)
      Yoel 5 (should've been a 10-8)

      No they didn't. Octagon control is counted last in the rules used for that event

      @noclipsbarrednick Před 3 lety

      @@getasimbe I misread that at first I thought you said octagon control is not counted. But even if it's counted last you have to take into account that the judges do not see what we see and they steal things from different angles and have to rely on what they can see not what cameras pick up or instant replay. So the judges could have had to go to octagon control because they might have seen an even fight from their angles
