    Pull out the spare tire and jack before piling up a bunch of stuff in the trunk. It is easier to move a tire once to get your stuff than to move all your stuff to get to the spare tire if you need it...

    • @paulsmith9341
      @paulsmith9341 Před 2 lety +3

      Conversely every time you need your stuff you would have to move your spare. I have never had a flat on a road trip, even on my mother of all road trips from Vegas through Canada, through most of the major towns in Alaska then back to Vegas. 9,500 miles.
      Also do you really want a spare and jack flying around the interior of your car in case of an accident?

    Let me tell you that, you are beautiful woman, and I always make my oil change every 3 months, I just changed my tires to a brand new 4 tires for $566 and I will never let my battery looks like that, and consider that as a nasty person, everything is looking good in my 08 grand marquis, when I had my grand marquis about 1 year ago I changed the most of things in 3 days, like spark plugs, air filter, and make an oil change every 3 months, I really keep everything clean on my grand marquis, my grand marquis is running so sweet, And the other thing that going to change are the tie rod end, the driver side is not good but I going to change the both sides, thanks 1A auto, and thank you to mrs Suzi, I change my oil and reset it,

    I also believe in checking and maybe replacing the serpentine belt if it makes noise or it's been in there for 5 or more years. It can easliy leave you stranded on the side of the road and you'll need a tow and may be overcharged.

    Thanks for the video, leaving for a long road trip tomorrow. I did the oil this past weekend but will check the levels and for any leaks to be sure. Tires treads are fine though I need to adjust the pressure a bit.
    Question: For coolant vs wiper fluid, don't they have a different viscosity? E.G. if you put a long rod in and swirl it you might be able to differentiate between the two in the resevoir. Also depending on what exactly they are made of you may see phase separation between the two. Coolant is (??? ethylene glycol???) or a similar organic small molecule whereas washer fluid is mostly water, sometimes these things won't mix.

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 Před 2 lety

      Coolant and water do mix quite well. Otherwise you couldn't mix coolant with demineralized water. Undiluted coolant is a bit more viscous and a bit oily, but you's need to take a closer look to spot the difference.
      However, in my side of the world the winter washer fluid is blue. The summer one (more detergent for removing bugs) is yellowish... Still easy to confuse the two fluids.

    I would not recommend using an air gun on the air filters. Doing that will force the microscopic dust deep into the filter, and just clog it up even more. Yeah, the larger dust will be cleaned off, and the filter will look clen to the naked eye, but in reality it could be saturated on the microscopic level.

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 Před 2 lety

      Indeed, you're right. Or if one insists of doing that, at least blow it only from the clean side to the dirty side.
      But one should not clean the air filter, only replace it except for the K&N or similar, which can be washed and re-oiled.
      If a car doesn't throw too much oil into the air filter, through the PCV, the filter has quite a long service interval.

    Good stuff, but not all cars have a radiator cap.
    Also, on newer cars you might get in trouble if you disconnect the battery w/o using a memory saver... It could be much worse than having to reprogram your radio.

    Hi Sue, what are the consequences of having an overfilled coolant degas bottle?
    I own a fiesta, and I mistakenly filled the degas bottle to the max line while the engine was cold.
    I noticed that, predictably, the level rose above the max line at normal operating temperature; did this do damage to my engine?

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 Před 2 lety

      No you didn't damage anything. It's an expansion tank. Never heard of anyone call it a degas bottle.
      The cooling system is designed to hold a specific pressure. If the pressure rises too much it will vent.

    * brakes these days don't 'wear' so you can feel the wear, the hydraulic keeps the pedal at a constant height even though the pads are getting thin. The only way to check disc brake pads is to look at them.
    The old brake shoes WITHOUT auto adjustment will give you a lower and lower pedal when they wear.

    The coolant in my radiator is near the top but I have no coolant in my overflow tank. Should I add coolant to the tank and how much? Thanks for posting this video because I am doing two road trips in October!!

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 Před 2 lety

      Add coolant to the tank up to the min level when the engine is cold. You might want to see why it's low. It probably loses it somewhere.

    • @DashCamSerbia
      @DashCamSerbia Před 2 lety

      Yes, add it in the overflow tank. As long as it is above MIN ad below MAX, it is fine. Just make sure to add the correct cooland, and mixed with distilled water 50-50.

    • @johnnymartinez305
      @johnnymartinez305 Před 2 lety

      add to the tank to the fill lone and take an extra jug of coolant. i even keep water next to the emergency coolant. water is good for emergency purposes, not as a replacement.

    • @PinBall3
      @PinBall3 Před 2 lety +1

      Have it checked for leaks first before adding any coolant as well as the radiator cap and the coolant overflow tank may be compromised as well as the other components
      Why ? If you have a small leak now , nothing will ensure your not going to get a larger leak in the future especially before any long travelling
      Repair Now Or Pay More Later
      Just Think Tow truck , added expense and inconvenience and you will be glad you have it looked at beforehand
      Worst case scenario > If its a head gasket and its internally leaking then costly damage would be assured if not repaired promptly
      Good Luck

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 Před 2 lety

      @@PinBall3 I totally agree he needs to check for leaks, but I see no harm in adding coolant right away, to avoid overheating... I'd prefer to waste a little coolant (or distilled water) than my motor.

    Come on I check my car out every 2 weeks when I am off from work just to give myself something to do. Last thing I need is a fart in the car force to make me late for work or late arriving home. Last time I took a road trip was back home to MASS and the last thing I want to see is video of my car going through the endless pot holes. I might be a Masshole but I now live in GA and while I do not like Dirt Roads our Dirt Roads are better than most roads in the Bay State. Honestly everyone who owns a car should be checking those things frequently. Tires are important and in MA they have car inspections down here we do too by MayPOPS are never looked at nor are cracked windshields. So the cars in MA are in better condition where as the cars here in GA are maintained with Duct Tape and a hammer yet the road conditions are better but you risk your life here because its NASCAR world.
