!! After recording this, I tried out 8K AV1 recording of the clip in the video and was able to utilize the RTX 4080 to complete the task in 48 seconds !!
I got a one time deal of 850usd on 4080 and I snagged it immediately 😮. 😊 It's a better card in viewport in 3D than 3090 by almost 40%
Can't wait to upgrade my setup to RTX 4080 super, Ty for the video :)
Congrats Jo on your new upgrade !! Looking forward for more upcoming videos with this beast !!
Getting my 4080 next week, upgrading from a 1080 Ti! But I agree, it's way too expensive
Me too! Getting mine next week
@@Cactuspractice12 me too! 😁
This is a great video!! I've been looking at upgrading from a 2070 SUper to the 4080 specifically for Unreal Engine 5 work in heavier scenes (e.g using MAWI Forest levels, MetaHumans, etc) so it's great to see these card's performance when being used in production software. :) I think the main thing putting me off is that GPUs still cost too much if you are wanting lots of VRAM. E.g the 4090 has a nice 24GB but is crazy expensive. At least the jump from 8GB to 16GB might be worth it, though part of me just wants to wait for the 5000 series to come out and wait for the 4090 to drop in price 😅.
If I could afford a 4090, I would buy one over the 4080. I have to think a little more about what I am doing with the 4080. Most of the time, I am running at 24fps (cinematics), so it is not a huge deal but I can/do run out of memory with bigger scenes.
Ahhh yeah that's fair, I ended up just buying a 4090 for a new build a few days ago. Thankfully the 24GB of VRAM does help a lot but even with a 4090, framerates can still struggle in larger scenes such as MAWI maps (from my limited testing so far at least). Consumer-grade hardware still has a long way to go for creating big scenes sadly. Still, it is definitely a massive step up from my 2070 Super 😅
I want to get 4090 but I will not buy one even though i have money to get it. I hate how NVIDIA have been doing their business and pricing their cards.
btw happy new year and Congratulations on getting this card, hopefully we can see more videos from you!!
Give me the money and I will get it, so you don't have to.
Super helpful! Thanks for the video
I'm just upgrading now from a 1080ti. A whole new system (AM5) and I cant wait to put some unreal projects through their paces.
Have fun 😁
I'm still rocking the 1080Ti, im almost crushed letting it go. but i think its time. how did your machine turn out?
Very nice info about the Productivity. Thanks
I am getting a full 4080 pc setup soon. i will upgrade to 5090 when the card is released laster this year
The issue with unreal engine issues is just the scene not being properly optimized.
I think your issue might be the vram. Both the 3080 and 4080 have only 16gb of vram where the 3090, 3090 ti and the 4090 all have 24gb.
It sure is a factor for larger scenes.
3080 has 10gb ram
@@spiegelmann82 can come with 12
@@MrDjTilo I was talking about a 3080.
My 4080 has 16GB too.
What adaptor cable did you get? I have bought a 4080 and this is my 2nd build so i need to know so i can finish my build
Maybe 12VHPWR. I forget the brand, it has been a year since this.
Good
I got the monster 3080 last year for 700
It is a fantastic card.
@@Jobutsu last week my 3080 died but its going to zotac today for repair so couple days ago bought the monster 4070ti
You have a huge bottleneck where the motherboard is not able to use the hard drive to the full speed.
There is no way!!! that the 3080 would choke with Unreal Engine the city environment.
Because I have a 3080 (mobile version) which means it is only a 150 watts and not a 3080 desktop version which is above 400 watts, and it works just fine.
There is a huge bottleneck in the system.
Also, keep in mind, the smaller the SSD the slower the speeds, so 1TB is slow, as well.
I think later in the year, finance permitting, I will move over to an intel based system.
Intel based Gpu? Or cpu
your performance/bottleneck could be your CPU/ram? I recently purchased a 3090ti (£1100 new from Scan), saved the money to get the new 13900k Intel CPU instead - the both complement each-other very well!
I think that Intel is the direction I should take.
Hi, great content. thanks for sharing. I'm in doubt about a 3060 for an R9 5900x machine, 64gb. because I already invested a lot in the computer. but would it be the case to press a little more and get a 4080 right away? can you talk about it?
The only problem with the 4080 is it does not have 24gb.
I am happy with it.
Thanks for making this test. I can afford 3080 only. Is this means that I can't make any project that contain metahuman and nanite in a same scene?
No that is not correct. The 3080 is a good card.
@@Jobutsu Thanks for the answer.
1:26 diff from last year to next year is only5-10% frames. you not see dif LOL. if old model run 200fps some resolution. same resolution new model run 220. if old version only run 15fps something really hard. new model only give 18fps. did you got it? where you spend monie LOL couple frames. again full price upgrade, but change from 2 year old is major.
last year and new year model is like 2090->3090 ->4090.
i have 2070 city demo works fine. something wrong your pc LOL
I think the weak link was ram and nvme.
I wonder if it's your motherboard. I have a 3090, with a 5950x in my desktop, and can run the City pretty well, but when i hit walls none of those show up as full, so I'm thinking it's my board. I do want to up my ram from 64 to 128, but holding out til next year.
I think intel is the way to go.
But I am not going to spend my remaining days chasing the latest hardware.
Whatever hardware I buy in 2023, if any, will be my last.
@@Jobutsu Funny, I had the opposite reaction when I realized this was my first full PC upgrade in 10 years and thought that, at that rate I would probably have 1 to 2(maybe 3) builds left in my lifetime, so decided to upgrade more often now ;)
I upgraded a month ago and got a 4080/I9-12900k/64gb, quite impressed with the new PC.
I am not a wealthy person, I have to struggle and work hard for every upgrade.
This AMD system I have is quick and there are many people out there that dream of having this kind of speed.
But my time with computers is coming to an end.
@Jobutsu I get what you are saying, I mean if I invest in new hardware, it means I m also cutting and making sacrifices somewhere else. I m in Canada, so prices aren't great here either. Retail prices are typically 30% (+ 15% tax) more than USD prices when it comes to most computer hardware.
@@Jobutsu Why is it coming to a end with computers?
What CPU did you use?

M2 MAX 32GB did it in 19 min 54 sec
FYI: DAZ Studio = t=247
Whats is your build with the 4080

@@Jobutsu really appreciate you answering! If you can answer this what sort of time you getting for 3minute long 3d videos rendering with the 4080?
@@go-gopizzo Rendered in which app?
@@Jobutsu im using Iclone 8, so Iray or omniverse and I'm seeing that I can do it in unreal engine as well.
@@go-gopizzo I use neither.
why did you buy a different adaptor cable?
I was told the adapter breaks easily when it bends.
Which after-market adapter did you purchase?
Corsair
The Corsair 600W PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR Type-4 is good for the 4080? I have the Corsair RM1000e psu. I’m guessing it’s compatible?
I am not an expert but it was what i was told. I changed because the included adapter breaks easy when bending.
can also support this for amd ryzen 9 3900x too?
I do not know
Interesting (not) fact:
RTX 4080 is weaker than 4090
Apart from the 16GB, I am still happy with this 4080.
For productivity it is good.
hey i guess this question is pretty off-topic but how did you make your microphone sound like this? in your other videos it sounds less "punchy" (idk how to describe it) and i've been searching everywhere on how to achieve this exact sound 🥲 would be really useful for a project of mine
Shure Sm7b and an old dbx 286s from Ebay.
Then I apply some mild processing in post with waves plugins.
