I forgot to add - if you have a whole case of beans to use up, try a baked potato with butter topped with baked beans and cheese, with a side salad. That's a pretty common lunch/dinner here. You can also still make an English fry up without black pudding - just do toast, beans, bacon, sausages, egg of your choice, fried tomatoes and fried mushrooms.
Yeah I hate black pudding. Never have it in my full English breakfast.
Omg yes! Baked spud with butter and baked beans 😋 yummy
Full Scottish is much better than a full English, a Scottish has everything an English has but has a few extra things like fried potato scones (usually triangle shape), square sausage with onion laced through it and fried fruit pudding that you slice and fry like black pudding...fruit pudding is a little bit of sweet among all the savoury.
Black pudding yes😈 ...tomato nooooooooooooooo!👿
beans and toast is definitely working class 🤣, I know its not great but sometimes it's all we could afford!!
I don't know about any other Brits but in my family we cover the entirety in beans, so the bread is soggy and beans are around the bread as well (and cheese on top is amazing too)
I like it half and half. It’s nice to have soggy bread but nice to have some dry toast remaining to eat when I want lol. Jayvee did it right but you need to use a knife and fork to eat it
Noo mine have to go on the side so the toast doesn't go soggy! 😭
I was thinking this, I just pour the beans on top until it looks like enough, but it never fits neatly on top
@@iamthewalrusx Soggy bread is good though lol
butter both sides of the toast so it doesn't get too soggy from the beans. 1 tin of beans over 4 slices of toast. That's my jam.
Depends on personal taste but unless I'm in a super hurry, I like to cook the beans on the hob/stove for awhile so the sauce thickens, I think they're much nicer when it's more like an actual tomato sauce and not just liquid. I don't really understand all the fuss around beans on toast, it seems like other countries think it's the UK's national dish and like yeah, we eat it a lot overall, but it's dirt cheap and takes about 8 seconds to make, it doesn't mean we think it's gourmet or that it's top of our list of all-time favourite foods. It's just alongside ramen/supernoodles etc in the fast-easy-cheap category.
Definitely. Quick hint; dump them straight into a hot frying pan. They thicken in seconds 👍
Yep, you're right on both parts. Hob is definitely the way to go but this is not something we're serving to guests regardless of how much it hits the spot every now and then!
you have to cook beans first, the toast bread, then add cheddar and s&p
@@grizzlygamer8891 do that with Tinned tomatoes an all...mmm fry up
That's my method but I also chuck in a little oil first and soften up some frozen onions and mushrooms, chuck in the beans and have on a spud or sour dough toast...lovely! 😁
Hi. The baked beans are also a favourite in Australia too. For breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Basis of every great Trans tasman cooked breakfast, or spag😁
I did not know this! I didn't know aussies had this as well!
@@moondust1992 yes in Australia Beanz meanz Heinz
Yes it’s an any time meal
I bet you are too ;)
Hi from London! Best beans on toast is with good quality toasted white bread, butter while it's hot, Heinz beans and a fried egg. With salt and pepper to finish.
Baked beans are versatile - our moms would give us sausage, mash and baked beans for lunch or dinner. Serve them with jacket potato.
Have them for breakfast: sausage, egg, bacon and baked beans (any bacon will do).
It’s totally used as a quick UK meal. Sometimes we grate some cheddar cheese on top.
Hi Jovaughn, Beans on toast with either grated cheese or a fried egg on top is nice too. 😊
Absolutely the fried egg on top, delicious. The yolk mixing with the beans is a definite necessity. So yummy.
@@jacquiemouton9053 it is 😊
Cheese, bacon or scrambled egg and definitely not heinz beans. Crap!
take the 'or' out Jo H - beans cooked on the hob, on toast with butter, then grated mature cheddar and finally a soft-topped fried egg. HP sauce on the side and that is a meal for any occasion.
Cooks some sliced onions in a pan then cook through with some curry powder. Add a tin of beans and some brown sugar and raisins, cook for 5 minutes or so and it makes great curried beans.
It’s interesting seeing the reaction from somebody who never grew up eating this.
Cheese over the top and let it make a melted cheese crust over is good too.
When I saw that steam rising off it I was expecting a burned roof of the mouth incoming.
That's my dinner three or four days a week. Absolute comfort food.
Can't believe no-one has said add hp brown sauce yet!!!
(Similar to A1 steak sauce apparently. HP should be available in the UK foods section of many American grocery stores, I think it's also manufactured in Canada so might be easier to find in the USA than some UK-only foods.)
Or a slug of Worcester Sauce.
Jay, try beans on toast with a poached egg on top and brown HP sauce. Best handover cure ever, and good for cold nights. You won’t regret it.
Brit here, Beans on toast is a staple over here. Yours looked about right. The eating with hands threw me … knives and forks for sloppy food 😂😂glad you liked them though, and the toast was spot on 😁
Yeah, his toast looked just right for me.
You eat it with a knife and fork? Oh no. Am i odd??
It was my favourite for after school. Getting home for your tea and your parents aren't back yet... get some beans and toast on
im a northerner i use my hands for sloppy and solide food
lol ngl for me i always use hands wid beans on toast just dont touch the actual beans and finish it with a spoon
Egg and baked beans on toast for breakfast everyday for me in Western Australia, occasionally add bacon chipolatas and hash brown for a treat.
Hi, Ex Forrestfield here. (Been in the UK since 83)
When the beans are simmering in the saucepan I add a knob of butter, a splash of Worcestershire sauce and a sprinkling of black pepper.
Add a fried or poached egg on the toast, beans and then grated fully matured cheese.
Yummy.
The best way to cook those beans is in a saucepan with no lid. Let some of the moisture out and cook them until the sauce thickens up. You get a richer taste and smoother texture. Then try not burning your toast 😂
Once you have mastered that you could graduate to putting Brown Sauce on top 🤗
Agreed, cook it down. (How sad is my life that I'm reduced to bake bean suggestions on CZcams?)
Bit of black pepper on top too.
Grated mature cheddar on top
@@realburglazofficial2613 extra mature
I eat the beans with one slice of toast. Then I eat the remaining slice with just the juice soaked into it
It's always gotta be HEINZ baked beans, nothing else will do.
@@stefan-rc3ii I don't know that I would go so far as to say better, but certainly adequate.
Branston beans are also good, I actually prefer them
@@stefan-rc3ii yes! More savoury than Heinz- they're a bit sugary.. And find a few hard beans in there, quality gone down, like Cadbury chocolate - yuk!
@@stefan-rc3ii Yup. Branston is by far the best.
Cross and Blackwell beans are not bad either but yeah Heinz is best.
Please do more food reactions!!!
Not a brit, but love beans and toast. I dont know where I got it from, but Ive always loved beans on bread. I made a baked bean butter sandwhich last night. no one in my family does this. good stuff
My mom was a lousy cook, but she made great beans. All kinds of beans. But she never made cornbread, so I would make myself a couple of bean sandwiches for dinner often. I didn't find out till about a year ago that beans are a popular breakfast food in England.
Beans, beans the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot, the more you toot the better you feel, so eat baked beans for every meal.
Where we grew up it was .... beans beans good for the heart the more you eat the more you fart. Lol
Beans Beans with slices of bread , don't eat too many else you'll shit the bed.
So surprised to hear you saying it's not sweet... I'm from Germany but you can buy the heinz baked beans here too & I always thought it has a sweetish taste - wonder how American baked beans taste now
I was surprised too, they have a lot of sugar in them!
Our baked beans taste almost like a dessert! It calls for brown sugar, maple syrup, tomato and often pork. The sauce is thick sweet smoky and peppery. If you have ever had American barbecue sauce it’s similar to that flavor
Same here in the UK, I always thought they were quite sweet. Makes me wonder how much sugar must be in American beans!
I would have just emptied the whole bowl onto the toast then just demolished it all.
That is the correct answer. With a ton of grated mature cheddar on top.
😂
Aussie here, and I agree. I had this today for breakfast. Yesterday I had spaghetti bolognese (minus the spaghetti) on toast. Was amazing! Jayvee please try that next 🙏
Beans in the US must be really sweet. You can also buy Heinz reduced sugar baked beans here in the UK.
He said not sweet - so sugary! 😄 imagine if he got the ‘no salt no sugar’ version….
That tin of beans will last you a while?
Damn bro, I have the whole tin and 4 slices of toast. 😄
Hahaha same here ! and that's how it should be done !
Thats Standard, 4 slices per tin
I first had beans on toast during my first trip to England and I do make it for myself occasionally. Try a poached or fried egg on top. Next up for you is spaghetti on toast, another dish I was fed for breakfast in England.
Spaghetti on buttered toast is wonderful. I always make toast when I have spaghetti, then pile it on the toast and NOM.
Never heard of beans on toast but it actually didn’t look to bad! Liking these vlogs, keep up with this great content! ❤️fromOregon🇺🇸
Us Aussies eat them anytime. Unfortunately, I don't anymore as the sauce normally contains sugar
Grate some cheddar on top
@@eviekelpie1 Heinz do a reduced sugar variety of baked bean
@@denisemeredith2436 that's good. Thanks for the information
Greetings from the UK. Beans on buttered toast with grated extra mature cheddar cheese. I love italian food but but every now and then this blows my mind. Enjoy xxx
Love beans on toast! Absolutely has to be Heinz - their slogan is Beans Means Heinz! I have white buttered toast and plenty freshly ground pepper. Sometimes I'll add a splash of the classic British condiment Worcestershire sauce and grated Cheddar cheese. Beans are also great with a baked potato or as part of a full Scottish/English breakfast
Jovaughn you have got me wanting to make beans on toast at 1:15AM! 🤣
You can get beans with sausage, they are like little hot dog style.
I put marmite on my toast or add hp sauce to cut the sweetness, funny how you didn't think they were sweet!!
Beans are a cheap easy basic here in the UK, can add to shepherd's pie, casseroles etc.
I eat Heinz beans in tomato sauce and I found they taste the best once they're open and in the fridge for a day. I typically eat them with bacon and eggs, some toast and tea. Mmm, been eating that since I was a kid.
English cheddar cheese on top Jay, grated or thinly sliced... really adds to it and melts with the heat. We also have flavoured beans that you could make these into by adding BBQ or chilli sauce.
We were brought up on beans on toast! 🇬🇧
We have the same beans here in Australia. They aren’t my favourite breakfast choice but they are quite yum on hot, buttered toast. Have you tried vegemite on toast? 😁
Same here, heinz aren't my favourite, to me the texture is more firm compared to cheaper brands, though I'd have to cook the heinz ones longer to soften them more. Also I sometimes have butter and marmite on the toast as well as the beans...and occasionally grated cheese on top :)
@@andrewturnermusic ooo I think I might have to give your recipe a go 😁
Definitely add sliced cheese on top…BUT for the gourmet experience, lightly spread Marmite (another classic) on the toast first! And maybe a dribble of Worcestershire sauce too.
I remember on the way home from work last year I was a bit hungry and wanted to just eat a tin of beans. When I got home and opened them, the whole tin was full to the top with the tomato juice and there was only one bean. I was laughing so hard but I didn’t really mind cause I do like the juice.
Brilliant, respect from hundreds of Kiwis & Aussies. Definitely try with sausage. Also try Heinz Spaghetti on toast. Also check out Marmite and Vegemite on toast but you probably can't get it over there. Cheers
You heathen, beans on toast, heinz spaghetti with toast for dipping.
Hahaha! Loved your edit to correct your statement about never having “beans and rice”. My husband eats baked bean sandwiches- but it’s with bbq beans. It doesn’t look to bad just not my cup of tea. Love your vlogs.
I’m on the east coast- Maryland, no snow for us today BUT it is bitter cold here.
JAY my mom always made beans and toast. Next time try a fried egg on top it’s awesome. Loved hearing your thoughts on it.
My absolute favourite way to have beans on toast too.
Not just British, us Aussies love baked beans on toast. Beans can be heated up first or not. I've always heated them up and poured on Hot buttered toast. Really yummy and satisfying. However, I no longer eat them because they contain sugar in the sauce and I'm watching my weight. Hope you enjoyed then!
You can get the reduced sugar ones. They're not to bad, especially if you've had a break from eating normal beans.
I am loving that snowman, so cute!
I never had beans on toast. It did not look bad, but I am picky about the type of beans I eat lol. But in a pinch or when your really hungry and don't want to wait, it seems like a great option.
This might sound weird or gross to some, but my favorite way to eat canned baked beans (In Canada, our beans aren't sweet either, I tried Bushes and they're sweet) but..... got off track. I love to put beans on toast, add thinly sliced onions, barbecue sauce and salt and pepper. SUPER yummy 😋
A neighbor of mine cuts up hotdogs and adds them to the beans when she warms them up.
You can get heinz beans with sausage already added fyi
My mom used to make something like that but she put the beans on slice of bread and cover it with cheese and bake it until the cheese started to brown.
I loved it.
I grew up in Ireland in the 60`s/70`s and this was a staple for snacking on a cold day, a splash of worchestershire sauce really adds a little zing to it. As for your slip at the end of the video? I now live in Jerusalem and beans in tomato sauce on rice is a staple , especially in the winter and especially on Friday afternoon, usually served with a couple of spicy meat balls, it`s really good and filling.
Just found the channel and it’s dope love it especially the uk music reactions gonna work my way through the backlog Keep it tight nothing but love dude ✌️🇬🇧
As a Caribbean brits we also cook it with onions peppers etc and season it up. But beans are staple.
Enjoyed this vlog Jovaughn- I’ve done similiar before- except added some garlic to my toast (same sandwich bread). Also, I love baked beans! However, I like them with that sweet flavor- I enjoy a mix of sweet/savory together- I’ve done similiar ideas when craving A-1 sauce- 😆 LOVE A-1 sauce- some garlic toast to sop up the A-1- no shame either.. 🤷🏻♀️😁. 💜👍✌️
Hey Jay having tried baked beans in the US they are completely different to UK baked beans. I usually add some strong English cheddar cheese on top. Can also use same combo in a baked potato for an easy dinner.
You could try putting the beans on the toast, sprinkle some chilli powder, and some grated cheese and put it under the grill, I think you call it the broiler. My dad use to fry some bacon, add the beans to the bacon, heat until hot, then he would add an egg to the beans etc in the pan until cooked, then have it on toast. Heinz even sell chilli beans that are nice. We grew up on beans on toast for breakfast or a snack in my family, I'm from Australia.
Edit: typo
right, you gotta reduce them down on the hob then mix in a sharp cheddar cheese with white pepper
Definitely, they should always be slightly puffy
A British classic!
Instead of Butter, I put some grated cheddar cheese on the Toast first. Then put it in the microwave for around 20 seconds
LOVELY! 😀
I like adding pepper onions and grated cheese. Sometimes some Worcestershire sauce. Yum 😋
It goes great with some fried sliced mushroom and tomato.
Its nice with cheese on top too , its healthy aswell ... many hugs from UK
I'm so glad you like them Jay! Beans on toast are pretty much a staple over here for a quick and cheap meal - and they can be eaten at any time of day too. They're a great breakfast, dinner and tea, they're great for supper, as a snack meal, they're good if you've been on a night out and don't fancy a kebab on the way home and there are several variations available too. Over here we can get beans with no added salt and sugar, barbecue beans, beans with frankfurter sausages (whaich ar tiny little sausages about an inch long over here), you can get them in the same tin as the other components of a cooked breakfast and there used to be a curried version available that had sultanas in the sauce and a really mild curry flavour, but I think they might have stopped selling those (my Dad used to eat them when I was little). There's several brands of beans available and every supermarket has their own and a budget brand. If you have a toasted sandwich maker at home, try them with some grated cheese and beans but be really careful to let them cool a bit because it's like trying to eat molten lava if you don't ad at the very least you'll have a blistered mouth and lips.
I sometimes sprinkle a little chilli flakes and black pepper into the bean mix, remove some of the liquid. Then add some cheese on top and pop under the grill.
Or make a baked bean and cheese toasted sandwich.
Beans on toast? Yeah man, they're great. A quick, basic meal, as you say, but versatile enough to have with anything you like. Beans on toast with a fried egg on top and fried mushrooms is ACE!
Nothing like beans on toast with an egg on top with HP Sauce and a nice cup of tea . 😀😀
Manchester U.K gal here in Toronto. Every other Sunday I make the family egg and beans on toast. The beans are cooked stove top, seasoned with black pepper, onion and garlic powder with a couple dashes of white vinegar for a tangy taste..... Absolutely delicious 😋
I'm scottish...grew up with beans
On toast...the British bean are so different from American beans.I think they are a bit sweeter
Quick, easy, high in protein, make you fart... What more do you need from a comfort food.
Honestly, sometimes it ends up being dinner on a poorly planned night where you WANTED to make spaghetti but the tomatoes turned out rotten, and it's still enjoyable.
Well said ! Its the farts that turn out rotten , i add a questionable amount of hot sauce to mine in the pan and its like chernobyl the next evening
This is a staple in Aus as well. Try it with white pepper generously applied - the same with butter. Add poached eggs and/or bacon to enhance!
I always cut the toast in quarters first then put the beans on top 👌
Beans and fried egg with black pepper and french mustard on toasted norwegian bread (no sugar) is comfort breakfast after a night on the town:)
Great review!!
I am British and beans on toast are sooo good. My American husband and sons all love it. They love when we have a English fry up breakfast.
We add sunnyside or over-easy with sharp cheddar sprinkled on top of the beans on toast.
In the U.K. we also have Heinz reduced sugar baked beans it’s a british staple diet and we have them with a full English breakfast
If you want to make it a bit more interesting, a squeeze of lemon and a bit of salt and pepper makes all the difference. Fantastic with fresh chilli! Also, freshly grated Cheddar is perfect with it.
I'm going to be controversial here and say black pudding and back bacon aren't prerequisites to an English breakfast. The key about it is you do what you like with it. I don't put fried mushrooms or black pudding, I use streaky bacon sometimes too, for the crispiness. My version has American Hash Browns and French Toast!
you are being controversial!!!
Funny how you expected them to be sweet. When I've been to America, I've noticed that a lot of your food is very sweet. I couldn't get over the bread...so sweet it could almost pass for cake in the UK! :-) Glad you enjoyed the beans, and as someone else said in the comments, try some on a baked potato with grated cheese...a nice easy lunch on a cold day. Enjoy the snow! :-)
Had this many many times.. in South Africa we have Koo baked beans. In UK I have yours. Baked potato with butter and topped with baked beans is also good. When they serve brunch here at the biggest pub franchise Weatherspoons always has baked beans.. normally is with knife and fork.
Us uk Jamaicans put onions and pepper bit of curry powder flavour it up you know but I will yam it both ways to be honest
Great reaction mate. The classic beans on toast is cheap, hearty, healthy and delicious. Popular saying "Beans, beans the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you toot" 😂
Any food that's not from America is natural flavours and doesn't have a mass amount of corn syrup like the american foods do
Have you ever tasted American food. It's absolutely gorgeous. They can shove whatever they like in it as far as I'm concerend if it tastes that good.
@@Coxy_Wrecked yes I've tasted the disgusting food they serve...it's all fattening and is dangerous their food safety organisation dont care whether Americans are being poisoned
Here in South Africa it's also popular. I love baked beans on toast. I like to add cheese as well. Great reaction. I just subscribed to your channel. It may be cold and snowing over there but over here it's very hot and sunny. At the moment it's summer over here.
Best is Homemade Boston style Baked Beans on Sunday morning with the left over Saturday Baked Beans.
weird tip for ya, with ya toast butter the corners first and the middle will take of itself....that way you won't just have a little butter island in the centre, someone told me this tip once and it's honestly some of the best advice I've had lol.
Add black pepper to the beans to spice up the taste. Add grated cheese to the toast and grill it before adding the beans on top for a more substantial meal with more flavour.
nice man. we like those beans here in australia too. we have different flavours of sauce too, ham and bbq. they are nicer than tomatoe sauce version.
we use the bbq version to make beanos: nachos using baked beans as the sauce
Full coverage👍 Gotta infuse the toast with the bean juice.
Do your toast under the grill. Toast 1 side, flip over, then fire some cheese on the toast then back under the grill. Top with half a can you Heinz's finest. (in the UK you can buy half size cans and small microwavable pots if you know that's all you're gonna use.)
Branston beans are soooo much nicer. Not runny like Heinz are. Also, nice with some grated cheese on toast first, then beans on top
I like cheese and onion on toast with Heinz baked beans (heated in a saucepan on the hob) poured over it, its delicious oh and some brown sauce mixed with the beans. I used to cook a full English breakfast for my husband when he had his morning break after working on the farm, I added fried potatoes to it but no black sausage but good bacon and fresh eggs from a special shop. The sugar content has been reduced here due to the rising obesity and I prefer less sugar anyway, sweet foods for dessert and not for my main meal. I'm glad you enjoyed it sweetheart, there are many things you can add to it, and it's a great quick snack at any time. God bless you Jayvee, love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
My dad asked my mom for 3 beans on toast so she did just that🤣. One of our favourites!
Popular in NZ too. Also great with sausages and mashed potato!
Gonna have to try it sometime
I regularly make up spiced beans with peppers, onion, chilli powder, bacon pieces, frankfurts sliced makes a quick filling meal on nights where you can't be bothered
Hiya Jay, the different ways we eat beans on toast are with red onion & grated cheese bang it in the microwave to melt & black pepper. My husband likes his with a squirt of HP brown sauce on the beans once plated up. My kids love hot dog sausage chopped up & heated up with the beans then served on toast. Try & Enjoy!!
Those beans are Haricot beans and they are grown in the States ad shipped to the UK. There is a documentary showing how they are made called inside the factory
I usually have one small half can of Heinz beans on toast and grate some cheese on top melt on it is nice…. Or you can have it spicy if you add Worcestershire sauce. Love them with Full English Breakfast or dinner chips fried egg beans …
Another recipe Baked potato with cheese and butter melted in the middle of the potato with beans on the side.
I add crushed garlic and mixed herbs to mine and some cooked cubes of potato and onions to mine plus some chopped chillies and cooked bacon and have it as a main meal.
Grated cheese on the top then pop it under the grill to melt. Bit of daddies brown sauce on the top omg yummy 😋👌
That doesn't look like butter. That looks like spread. the best butter you can get is KerryGold ;-)
Nah man that French President butter is tops
maybe you should try Toast (Toasted bread) Hawai. A german traditional dish of the 50s, but already known and loved by many people. Especially for people like me it is memory of childhood in the 70s.
It's toasted bread with butter on it, a piece of boild ham, on that a slice of a pineapple covered with a cheese a slice of cheddar, gouda or some cheese like this. this must put a short of time in the oven, that the cheese can melt.
My favorite way to make the beans is to start with antipasto with some extra diced onion. Fry that until it softens up then add the beans. Next level up is to add in some diced salami with the antipasto. But once that cooks for a bit you need to remove the fat that liquifies out before adding the beans. And for the final level up, just before serving, add some cubed cheddar cheese so that they are half melted when they hit your plate. Mmmmmmm.....
I usually add a touch of chilli flakes and put cheese on to make a really good beans on toast
Popping back to say nothing beats Heinz, it's just not the same!
For me it has to be Batchelors beans on toast (have to keep it Irish 💚) if you're doing two slices of toast you could make scrambled egg for one slice of toast & put the beans on the other slice of toast, you could also try a baked potato with baked beans on top.(sliced the baked potato down the middle and put the baked beans on top)
in South Africa we have Koo Baked Beans and it's also got a sweetish tomato sauce. That's the baked beans on toast I know.
That said, I don't think you'll hate adding more ingredients to flavor up your beans. It's a good source of protein, but it's a bit bland.
I love my toast dark like that. My kids say I burn my toast and I try to tell them it's better when it's dark but they not having it!!
