- An American tries Baked Beans on Toast for the first time! Good old Heinz Baked Beans on hot buttered toast. This British staple uses beans in tomato sauce, not barbecue sauce. Also, no additional bacon or sausage either!
How does our brave American fare with this taste test? Is he going to love it or hate it?? A big thank you to Roger for doing this!
This video has been requested by our excellent British viewer, Philip. He also wants to see the Brit Girls eating beans on toast properly - the British way, with a knife and fork! Philip, your wish is our command, lol!

It's called an English breakfast,it's not a new thing he came up with🤷

Thank you very much! We appreciate your support! 👍😄
What a lovely chap! I would never call baked beans on toast a main meal, though. It's for a quick lunch or snack for me. We sometimes have baked beans as an accompaniment in a main meal, say with cold meat or fish cakes, if I have no fresh vegetables. I also love baked beans with bacon and onions. But we love things on toast, like eggs or mashed sardines, or cheese. And, always with a knife and fork. Some of the videos of people trying beans on toast for the first time are hilarious because of the way they are trying to eat it!
Aw, thank you! 😀 Agree, it's usually a lunchtime treat for me too! I also use them as an accompaniment - they are yummy with a number of things, aren't they. Us Brits really love our toast, and I would have to agree with you on that as well! 👍😀 Yes, it's so funny watching people do weird things like pick the toast up with the beans on top, and then sort of fold it over before eating it! Not the correct British way at all, lol!! Lily, thanks so much for all your wonderful comments and suggestions! 💖
Add sausages and more toast it's a main meal, put cheese on top of the beans
Haha! I loved the editing in this video! I love beans on toast; I could eat beans every day! I like sprinkling some mild cheddar cheese on top!! Also, one of the best bits of a full English breakfast! 😻😻
Thank you for your compliments about the editing - that means a lot! We agree with you...we could eat them every day too! Love all your baked beans suggestions!

Looks wonderful very polite. That s very British of an American. 🤣 look at you doing cooking videos.
Haha, it must have rubbed off on him from us!! 😂 Oh yes, we are definitely domestic goddesses...NOT!!! 😂 Thank you!!
Fun video! We have a can of these in our pantry. We picked them up at an English shop The Crown & Bear.
Think we’ll have them for lunch! 😊
Wonderful! Enjoy! 😋 Love the name of your English shop...it sounds like a British pub! Very cool!
I remember your video of Crown & Bear! Hopefully this video has inspired you to have some beans on toast straightaway!
You can buy Heinz beans at Walmart. Heinz is an American company
I never thought the much loved British beans on toast to be appealing or appetizing. Nothing about it sounded good. But I am currently sick with a respiratory virus and too tired to cook and for some reason I can’t fathom I looked in my cupboard, saw two cans of pork and beans in a tomato sauce and immediately thought of beans on toast! I’ve never had it yet but my brain went there. So I decided why not? Even when heating and putting it together, much like you did here, I couldn’t fathom what people saw in this pairing. Well I am here to say this was surprisingly good! I can’t put my finger on it but it definitely wend down like comfort food! Then I did something that seems more disgusting and put a teaspoon of mayo on each bean covered toast and this became something I would definitely eat again and again.
Yay, a new convert! 🤗 Oh my, the addition of mayo is certainly unique! I will have to give it a try! Thank you for giving beans on toast a go 👍I hope you feel better soon. Take care and all the best.
@@The_Brit_Girls thank you! And Cheers!
My son in love (his parents are from UK) eats beans on toast. I remember watching him make that for the first time. It was great that he can bring a bit of "home" to his home here in the US. (He was born here in the US)
Awww that's so nice

You made that look fun & delicious. Will give it a try soon. Appreciate the well-demonstrated 'recipe'.
Cool U of A shirt on the test subject. Although efficient, British knife & fork use seems a bit awkward.
Send video to Heinz, maybe get a complimentary case of beans!
Thank you, Don! Roger says thank you too and "bear down!!" I guess the knife and fork thing is just easier depending on how you were brought up to use it. Table manners are sooo important to us Brits, lol!! Hah, good idea...I wouldn't mind a complimentary case of beans!
As an American I would be sooo tempted to just grab it in my hand and pick it up and start eating it like a sandwich. The whole knife and fork thing seems like eating with handcuffs to me. Lol

Exactly!! Lol!! Thanks Gary, we appreciate it! 👍😀
Americans can't use knives and forks correctly from what I have seen.
Honestly, without a word of a lie, I literally just started craving this meal the moment you announced it. I think you have one of those voices that just makes you want to go out and do whatever you say 😂 either that or I’m just a TYPICAL English person 🤣.
It’s hilarious though isn’t it how out of all the posh meals out there, this is honestly one of the best meals out there. You just can not beat it.
It was tense moments waiting for American Guy to give that feedback. But how could he not like it? Lol!

Back in the day here in the U.S. especially up north people have baked beans with brown bread. That is made with molasses. Also in the south we love them at a picnic or cook out.😁
I think both ways sound really delicious. We will have to test some American baked beans for another video! 😄
I had no idea that this was a British dish! I've had baked beans with brown bread (bread in a can), but never on toast. Nice!
Good to hear you've had baked beans before! They are magnificent on toast (and maybe with some grated cheese on top!) I cannot believe I'm giving culinary advice to a top rate cooking channel! Lol! How cheeky of me! Thank you so much, Wendy!

What's bread in a can??!!
@@jillhobson6128 it used to be thing when I was a kid. In the section where you could purchase baked beans, there would be a can that had brown bread in it. It was on the sweeter side and somewhat sticky. Don’t think they make it anymore.
Please explain what 'bread in a can' is. Sounds very strange!
lol love it,stay safe debs
Haha, thanks Debs! You too!
Very nice video my friend
Thank you very much 💖
I never have heard of this on bread. I have seen it with bacon and brown sugar and at a bbq like your husband said. I actually am not a fan of it because I didn’t grow up eating it maybe. I grew up eating pinto beans all of the time, which I love. This was such a fun video.
I’m not sure whether the American style beans would taste very good on toast. Beans on toast is a real staple food in the UK. Perhaps we need to taste test American beans? Thank you for your feedback! Brilliant!
Poor Roger now the official Guinea Pig of taste test
Lol!! It is in fact a great honour!! 😉😂
What an interesting combination! Ice heard of this, but never tried it! Now I'd like to! 😊 I'm curious if Heinz Baked Beans are the same flavor-wise as Bush's!
Also, is that why they're so expensive (cause they're imported)?! I always wondered that!
Good question! We are thinking of doing an American baked beans taste test at some point - so we'll let you know!
Yes, exactly right! They are much cheaper in the UK.
@@The_Brit_Girls But Heinz is a US company!
Well Heinz is actually an American company so I'm sure you could find them in the states 😀
It’s a British classic👏
Haha, yes it is! Thank you for watching!
I’m English and I can eat beans on toast twice a week....but you do really need the knife as well as the fork for this meal...a similar meal which is great if you’re trying to lose weight..
Is boiled canned whole Italian tomatoes..on toast...it’s always a toss up for which can I go for........I usually squirt HP brown sauce liberally over the beans or tomatoes..
PG tips tea bag...diffused in a mug of boiling water, then take it out bin it....add one brown sugar, then pour some jersey milk to white it up......super as good as jello and peanut butter. buttys
Hi David, thanks for your great feedback! Agree, it's easier to eat your beans on toast with a knife and fork. Sometimes I have grilled sliced tomatoes on toast...and yes, definitely with lots of good old HP Sauce! Delicious! Can't beat a nice cup of tea with that!
Oh david... we miss you!
I really miss being able to eat this ...I can't now ...stomach can't take it...I hate IBS!!! Nice job ladies
Oh no, that's miserable. Sorry to hear that. Thank you for still watching the video, Sean.
The way I like it is with buttered toast that's almost cremated with the beans on the side otherwise it makes the toast all soggy. Sometimes with a good dollop of Lea & Perrins in the beans. And a big squirt of ketchup on the side. Now I'm all hungry!
Thank you very much for sharing how you like your beans on toast - sounds good! Happy Christmas! 🎄
@@The_Brit_Girls Hope you have a lovely Christmas too.
No special condiments in the sauce?! WAIT A MINUTE... where was the CHEESE?!?! A good mature English cheddar or Double Gloucester is a NECESSITY!🥰
Haha, next time!! 👍😆
Ooh yes! That does sound like a good addition!
While Heinz is an American company it's important to remember that US beans are made to a different recipe than UK beans. It's not just the high fructose corn syrup difference. US bread is different and US butter as well which is why Americans seldom use butter on sandwiches and will use mayonnaise instead for example.
Hi Steve, thanks very much for your feedback. US bread and butter certainly tastes different to us. I've now got into the habit of using mayonnaise on my sandwiches more often than butter!
The secret to good beans on toast is...
Cook the beans until they are well-done and almost mushy.
And...
Lots of thick white crusty bread with loads of butter.
We absolutely agree with you! Any sausage or sauce for you?
@@The_Brit_Girls
I DO love a full English....but if you add anything to beans on toast, it becomes something else OTHER than just beans on toast...
ie: getting nearer a breakfast.
So, I would say...no.
In the case of beans on toast, better to keep it simple..."less is more"! 😁👍
Never heard of this before. Worth trying with some crispy bacon. Yum.

265 beans for Roger and 200 beans for Julie ( approximately 😉 )

Oh yes! Perfect! 👍👍😀
I must say, I never ate baked beans that way but I did have an English breakfast and yes it was enjoyable. Yes, I had the baked beans with it but not on the toast.
It's worth giving it a try at some point! English breakfast always has the beans without the toast underneath it. I would say that beans on toast is more of a lunchtime or teatime treat! Thank you for your comments, Larry!
I do wonder if Julie enjoyed those beans... 🤔😂 beans on toast is so underrated as a meal, I don’t eat it often but a generous mountain of beans with a nice grating of extra mature cheddar... 😗👌🏻 perfect!
Too obvious?? 🤣🤣 Agree, beans on toast is the perfect meal! A nice helping of grated cheese on top is a great addition! Thanks NathyB!! 👍😃
YES on the grated mature cheddar!!!
I would try it but not sure if I could get past the mushy bread. Does the bread get mushy quickly?
That’s how we ate beans, with bbq.
The thinner the bread and the longer you toast it, the less mushier it gets. Hope that helps! 👍😀
Yes, that seems to be the most popular way to eat beans in America. Thank you for your feedback, Kasie! 👍😊💖
Not if it's toasted properly!
I was going to ask if Heinz Baked Beans taste the same in the US as they do in the UK, but you said they were imported so they must be!
