Thank you for making this video! You answered my questions and more. :) I’m glad you made the distinction between Ne and Ni ramblings because as a viewer and reader of your work, I can clearly see the difference between your Ni “ramblings,” and Ne ramblings.
I suspect that people who have said they felt like they got nothing out of your ramblings, were probably seeking content that was presented in a more bullet-form, “practical,” manner. Where they could get quick information, and connect it into their preexisting frameworks.
With your work, even in your book, if we skip through chapters, or speed through your video, we would lose full understanding because everything was connected by you to begin with. One reasoning moves into the other, and it’s a trail, as you said. 👍🏼 Certainly depth, over breadth.
I find myself most motivated when I go deep into a topic. I also tend to go from topic to topic to topic and I could go on for hours, although only when I feel my surroundings are safe/ or I have deep interest in said topics. But yes, as an INFJ, I can definitely relate to rambling and in the end I feel like I've gained more insight.
Listening to you talk about the rambling of the INFJ brings me back to serious consideration of myself as an INFJ. I had gotten away from that, exploring other types to consider for myself. But at my core, I ramble very much in the same way you describe. I constantly ramble about the same ideas and it’s like I’m beating a dead horse. I obsess over the same source material and sometimes I get an “insight” which feels new to me, but it’s actually just a different angle (probably accessing a different part of my brain), so it feels new to me, but to others, it’s just the same old narrative.
My wife can attest to this lol. But now, I am once again back to what feels like the core of who I am. I think I will always be exploring different parts of my mind and seeing different parts of myself. This is the journey of life and the exploration of self, which we all experience. But there is always a core that we default to at the end of the day and one that we cannot deny. It is our true nature
Ni child thinks in novel and childlike way. While this can be seen as obvious and basic at times, I think it can give perspectives which a higher Ti user would overlook. This dismissal of Ti child is effectively dismissal of a great source of creativity.
Definitely definitely resonate with this! For a long time I felt my tendency to ramble was a defect, or something I needed to temper or curb, but I very much like how you've vindicated the necessity for Ni-rambling 🙂 My ENFP girlfriend has commented on my tendency to 'chew over' ideas eternally, which is something she admires about my treatment of ideas/concepts etc., and I felt it related to, and was legitimised by, this very charitable portrait you've painted of Ni-rambling!
Next to an Ne-user, I didn't see myself as a rambler but there are times where I even think to myself, "Geez, I can't shut up." 🤐 Of course, this happens when I'm excited and talking to someone I enjoy being around and feel comfortable talking to or when I'm nervous and attempting engagement with others.
On a separate note, I found it interesting that when coming across other INFJs there seems to be an interesting thing that happens when I meet another... who is the first to ask the questions which makes the other one the first to open up and find themselves in a vulnerable position. 😂 It feels awkward.

I totally agree : it repeat & refresh / update / improve.
I had the tendency to repeat because I want to be sure people understand well, integrate, remember, don't forget the info.
After all, we remember better the info when they are repeated, as if : better printed in our mind.
Also because I want to be sure at 200%. When I speak it's generally only to say important things.

Ren, have you ever looked at the intersections of Ni and students tagged as "gifted" in school?
I have but perhaps this deserves a whole video.
I wonder if you can relate to this. I sometimes get a piece of information which niggles me, as I know I have to thrash it out till I’m happy. I think this may be that it doesn’t seem to fit congruously within my mental Ni framework. Either the fact is wrong or my matrix needs an upgrade.
Yes that’s a familiar enough experience for me too.
Not actually. It's not an INFJ thing, here's why:
INFJ's mind is unable to ramble, because that is an Ne ability to associate and think of the "next thing".
INFJ's are unable to talk, and usually can't think of what to say, specifically because the ability to ramble and think of something doesn't exist.
If someone can just sit down and talk about a topic, it's a sign that Ne is relatively high. It's torture for INFJ's to say more then a few sentences without a conversational partner who can constantly prompt them, ask questions and keep the conversation running for them, cus they can't do it themselves.
We do ramble in the sense of sounding very random and uncalibrated while talking, but this due to having weak Te and not formulating thought well into speech.
Sounds like you’re describing a very introverted Ji dominant (Ti or Fi) not an Ni dominant.
