    Ust summited August 31 2023. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I was out of breath from the first day in the forest. Thank goodness I took Diamox.

    Great video! I did Lemosho too in seven days. I remember particularly the last 48hs are brutal. We started the summit push at 11pm, made it to the summit by 05:30 am, cold like I never felt before. We stayed there for a bit, then head back down and arrived back to Barafu Camp at about noon. Then we had one hr only for rest and pack your things we head down to another camp. Little that I knew, it was a brutal 19km downhill trek. It took forever :p then we spent the night on that camp and next day we headed to the exit of the National Park.
    I feel you when you talked about arriving to Stella Point just to find out there's plenty more to go. I was sooo tired and weakened. When the guide told me there's still a good 40/45min to the summit I was like whaaaaaaaaaa, I was so exhausted.
    The next day after the climb I headed over to Zanzibar to rest out a few days. When I woke up the first day, I couldn't move my legs at all, muscles where ultra tired, my calves totally sore lol great memories, I'd love to come back

    Thank you very much. This summary of your experience is concrete and enlightening. I will be on Kili in September with Altezza. One question: didn’t you tip the porters, as is customary with all hiking expeditions?

    • @SamMainerMain
      @SamMainerMain  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hey @PastPeyman 😊 appreciate the comment!
      We did tip the porters, a lot. They do a group tip, which is then split dependant on job role. Example, $100 tip to the group, chef gets 10%, porters get 5% etc. They do this to keep it fair & we don’t determine those splits.
      Then in addition, you can give individual tips too, (for example, we gave our porter who carried the toilet a much bigger tip..) 😅
      We tipped well because we knew the massive impact it could have for them compared to the little effect it would have on us when we were back home.
      You’ll need USD cash, and they’ll store it safely for you with your valuables whilst you hike.
      (Take $10-$20 with you on the hike for boot washing & snacks when you finish)😃
      Hope this helps!

    Excellent video🎉 Question- You mentioned you paid for "extras" .Curious to know what additional luxuries were provided. Thank you❤

    • @SamMainerMain
      @SamMainerMain  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hey @kw8282 apologies for only seeing this now!
      From memory, the extras we paid for were : A private toilet just for our small group (recommended), higher quality / quantity of food(recommended), bigger tents (not a requirement), and elevated beds / not the yoga mats (not a requirement).
      I think this was everything. For us, we had one of our team with very limited mobility, so some of the extras were required, but the trip can certainly be done without these.
      I would simply review what luxuries you are happy to go without, and the budget you have available, and decide your priorities from there.
      Hope this helps :)

      Hey Mehri, thank you for the feedback!
      I think I cover this in more detail in this video here : czcams.com/video/LCrmJ2zab9M/video.html
      Around 10months out, around once a month, our group would go on a longer hike, or weekend away hiking. This helped us in practicing with our kit too.
      However, the biggest piece of advice I'd give, would be to raise your daily step count to above 15k steps a day about 6 months out, and do this daily up until you leave. Possibly building up as you go too.
      Time on your feet is key and this was not something I was personally used too.
      Hope this helps!

  • @encouragesolutions2595

    Superb summary of this route. Thanks. I went in 2019 having done EBC in 2017. On day 2 I slipped and hurt my back which transferred to my neck and on day 3 I had to leave the mountain (for a neck brace). I'd love to go back this year if I can lose 20kg as I found that your weight taken onto the mountain is the single biggest problem, other than altitude sickness. We did the Machame Route which I'd not do again so that's why I'm interested in Lemosho. On the basis of your quote "complete don't compete" I'd like to take the easiest route which some people say is the northern circuit, others Lemosho. Northern Circuit is 10-11 days apparently. Do you have any insight on route choice and which route has best success rate? Thx

      What a journey!! I do think, the longer you take the higher chance you have of completion, so that could be your best option for sure. However, on the flip side, I think the wall & the final summit climb will be challenging regardless... Good luck & thank you for taking the time to watch my video & comment :)

      Hey CG! From memory it was bank transfer. I think I put it on a credit card for slightly more protection. We had multiple calls with the company, completed a lot of research, checked reviews etc, all of this to be sure we were selecting the right company. If you are unsure, continue researching until you are ready to pull the trigger. Good luck and let me know when your successfully summit ;)
