- In this video, we’re going to explore what happens when Shepard starts a new relationship with Liara in Mass Effect 3 if the Commander didn’t date her in the first two games. We’ll explore the unique dialogue that occurs in this scenario.

Liara has one of the best romance arcs in the Mass Effect Trilogy. From coaxing her out of her shell in Mass Effect 1 to reuniting and helping her take out the Shadow Broker in Mass Effect 2, and taking on the Reapers together in Mass Effect 3, Liara is with us almost all the way. We’ll forgive her for the Collector base.
While the Liara romance is best if you follow it through all three games, it’s actually possible to form a new relationship with her in Mass Effect 3 if you didn’t romance her before. About halfway through the game, Liara will email Shepard asking to meet up on the Citadel. During this conversation you can push beyond the friend zone and start dating her.

5:36 I think she says that only if you didn't play Lair of the Shadow Broker dlc. Otherwise she says "I love you" first, then Shepard can respond with the same words.

Do all the ME 3 romance options come with unique dialogue if you didn’t romance them in the previous 2 games or is it just Liara?
I think I messed up:
you see I visited Ashley 'locked her in' , ME1 romance, hospital visits, the kiss.. all that BUT thought "meh" as Liara is the cannon option so...
THEN went over to Liara (straight after Ash) began the Liara romance dialogue 1. at The Commons also- I assume this as as Ashley disappeared from the Citadel map.
I guess if I play enough missions and be invited to the Citadel again by Liara to 'lock in' properly? all I know is I visit the blue beauty 😃 at the Commons after every mission and nothing happens but standard NPC dialogue, same when Shep is in Liara"s office.
Ash is no longer on the Commons and Shep just wants some closure 😄 Will Liara send an invite on the terminal?

Yeah, you can do it with Ashley and Kaidan as well. Kaidan is available for both genders in this game too
Liara actually requires the fewest dialog and time investment to romance. She can be picked up as late as After Virmire, if you abandoned you other romance before hand or..... ON Virmire. Then in ME2 she can be romanced after sleeping with 2-3 other 1 time romances. Let's just say a "lifetimes research" on the protheans leaves a girl wanting very badly

If you start a new game without importing a save you can romance Garrus and Tali as well.
The dialogue is the same if you went this route. So it might not have been intended.

Reading thru her Wiki and knowing that she went thru hell with the shadow broker just to get Shepard's body back just made me choose her all the time
Exactly. I am very curious about how next game and her involvement turns out. She is willing to do quite literally everything to save Sheppard. I wouldn´t be surprised if the story started several hunderds years later with Liara developing some next gen Lazarus for all that time, just to bring Sheppy back. or something like that.

If you lock in with Liara (new & old romances) after the mission to Thessia she would remark how the place where she grew up must be gone now instead of her cute story about digging for ruins in the park. Appreciate the little details like that when you change it up a bit in each play through.

I’m surprised they put in the effort to give her three different lines-no I love you if you’re romancing for the first time in ME3, Shepard saying it first and her hesitating if you cheated at some point, and her saying it first if you stayed loyal through all three. That hesitation before she says it back if you cheated is merited lol

@@wiredshadowfury569 Gotta disagree, it’s _definitely_ cheating in Liara’s case for a fair few reasons.
She’s the one that rescues Shepard’s body, gets him resurrected, the Illusive Man then lies to Shepard about her working for the Shadow Broker and being untrustworthy (he speaks and deals with her personally in Mass Effect Redemption), he then tries pushing Shepard into forgetting his past relationships, and finally when Shepard does happen into her on Illium, they kiss the minute he walks in the room.
Liara distances herself at first because she was traumatized by Shepard’s death and mourned him for two years, but the whole DLC hammers home how much she couldn’t move on.

@@mjtechnoviking44 Feron was working for both the SB and Cerberus, but Liara found out about his connection to the SB pretty early in _Redemption_. She doesn’t find out Feron was working for Cerberus until he admits it to her much later on.
TIM would be aware of Feron’s changed loyalty and his betrayal of the SB after Feron’s sacrifice and Liara’s delivery of the body. There’s no way he could ever genuinely believe Liara was working for the Shadow Broker, but he claims she is in the beginning of ME2.
I am glad the developer gave us a few dialogue to electrocute Feron, will do it every time as he made my Liara care for him.. just being mean .. 😈
No matter how many times I've played these games, the somber music in M3 always tears me up, as I recall the first time I ever played it (after they "fixed" the ending)..

I think that they have special suits that they can have people wear to get baselines for human movements to prevent things from looking too robotic. I like to imagine that they had 2 people actually kiss while wearing those suits
That must be why we didn't get much of a romantic cut scene when romancing the other aliens. It's probably a bitch to rig and animate all the different heads and movements.
The kiss is sweet. Usually a femShep player and it is just as nice. Liara is not a hop in and bang in public type of girl so it fits her kiss being tender and somewhat chaste. I like the Jack romance too as she is totally opposite of Liara and her kisses bring the heat. Each romance has in character intimacy which fits, and makes it a victory to witness. Like stumbly bumbly Garrus, when he says he doesn't care what others think or say anymore he hits femShep with the heat on the skeet shoot, yet on Palavin he is afraid to show any intimacy on Palavin's moon.

The thing i hate about liaras romance is that exact scene on the citadel. Even romancing her through all 3 games for some reason the dialogue appears like you have never romanced her before.
Furthermore, i think that if you dont do that specific scene then it acts like you are not in a relationship with her and therefore don't have a romance at all.
Yes I agree with you. It pissed me off how she treated me as a "friend" after romancing her thought the whe game (I did cheat on her with Tali in me2 but she never found out😅) so doing a second playtrought, but now I'm picking Tali instead 😁😁

I completely agree. My femshep romanced liara in all three games. I stayed faithful and always stated that the relationship should continue. I never understood why she always came at me like I was “just a friend” in ME3. They should’ve done a better job with that.

That's what happens to all of my playthroughs. But one thing to note is that if you romance her in ME2 first, than pick another romance option after, she will still say she loves Shepard first in ME3.
Imagine if you're FemShep and romanced Kaiden in ME1, fell out with him in ME2, romanced Thane in ME2, Thane dies in ME3, you're forced to shoot down Kaiden, and then you finally end up with Liara, your longtime friend, before dying in the fight against the Reapers. I kinda like these tragic, non-linear romances more than the straightforward ones.

I did this. I romanced Kaiden, he died on virmire. I romanced Garrus, then he died. I was like "Well I always liked Liara" so then I die lol
The elaborate paths of romances in the game can be fun. I love hearing Ash shriek about Jack. Catty is being nice and too modest.

Thanks for saving me time figuring these choices out, no one has put as much thought into "What If's" as you have and released it to all. I used to play around with options in ME2 because I liked seeing outcomes, but you're next level.

If Shepard is the Soul of Mass Effect than Liara is definitely the heart of this game. If any one ever come close to this relationship that is Tali, but nothing can beat their bond. That is an example of how good their character buildup is.

In my first playthrough i romanced her and loved this scene. Thel liara got reaper blasted and i was legitimately in disbelief.
Yeah that pre extended cut end was nightmarish.
I used to be an Ashleymancer 100%. Tried the Liara 1-3 romance before and really enjoyed it, but couldn't switch until LE. I had already locked in Ashley, but before Ilos I decided to reload a prior save so I could romance Liara (a save that I had overwritten) so I was locked into my choices. However it ended up being my most narratively fulfilling trilogy run so far. Romanced Ashley because there's more in common and Liara seems too awkward, Ashley doesn't join up with Shepard in 2 and the relationship fractures while Liara constantly shows how much she cares/still wishes he chose her, and in 3 Shep realises that he has strong feelings for Liara and is meant to be with her. End of the galaxy has a way of making you see things you once thought weren't there.

Yeah that one part got me a little meh, but I saved it with little bit of roleplaying, best partners are also best friends. So that´s what she meant. End of story. :D
@@Scarecr0wn she was also pretty distant at the beginning of ME3 and in ME2 so I always wrote it off as being cautious after focusing so much on stopping the reapers and the events with feron and the shadow broker. She did become a bit more guarded and the scene was like her finally letting her guard down again.
But that's just how I worked through it
@@Dactess Yeah well in ME2 everybody was cautious , they didn´t know if Sheppard was really Sheppard. Also Liara went through absolute hell to bring Sheppy back, so it makes sense. In 3 I didn´t feel like she was distant tbh

In order to be deemed a financial success, ME3 had to sell better than ME2. Therefore, there had to be new players who never played another game of the series before. If you don't import a savefile, the game assumes that you didn't romance anyone, so this scene does make a lot of sense
True, but it would have been better if me2 and me3 incorporated the genesis dlc 1 and 2 respectively, for the new players.

I almost agree. Romancing her in ME1 can feel like something very hormone driven that develops into something more, but with this, it's two of the closest friends on the Norrmandy realizing they mean more to each other than they realized.
Kinda like how in a TV show two characters are built from the beginning to be together and only really end up together during the last season

My first playthrough was a romance with Ash in ME1, none in 2 as I was hoping Ash would get better in 3, but Liara... I got this scene and turned True Blue from then on. I also love how she has lines about all the big moments and characters in the game. If you do not have or skip the Shadow Broker DLC, she even has differing lines at the farewell. If you talk about babies in LotSB, then that is mentioned too. She is my girl, even if there are some sweetness in the other Romances.
You should do a vid on her just to see all the variations.

Your devotion to the series is really quite remarkable. A few suggestions for future videos:
1-Focus on the books and comics, an area that really isnt well covered by youtube channels. A summary of each book as well as a review could also be awesome.
2-Mass Effect Galaxy and Infiltrator. These 2 have become totally obscure.
3-A demonstration of how ME Galaxy can affect ME2, and how Infiltrator can affect ME3.
4-Pinnacle Station. Many new arrivals are unfamiliar with it, since Legendary Edition does not include it.
5-A list of some cool mods for PC that people should try out. Not just graphical improvements, but also the ones that re-active content or even introduce more content.
6-Since legendary edition does not include mp (at least for now), then a series of video dealing with MP. One explaining the rules and objectives. One about each faction. One for each map and its variants. One for each character inside each class.
7-Speak about aborted ME projects, like the MP game that allowed the usage of vehicles.
8-A video for each of the squad-mates on Andromeda as well as the trilogy, explaining back-story, showing all powers on each game, side-missions, romance (whenever applicable), possible death-scenes...
9-A personal story. About how you first heard about ME, what were your impressions of each game, your favorite classes, missions, decisions...
10-A showcase of each and every power (SP and MP) in MEA and the Mass Effect Trilogy.
Heh, didn't know this was considered so unique. This is actually how my very first playthrough of the trilogy went.
I just wasn't sure who interested me the most all the way through the end of ME2. But I simply fell in love with Liara by the end of the Shadow Broker DLC in ME2.
The moment when she give me her gift assured me of what I wanted/needed to do next. :D

My favorite is to Romance Liara in ME1, Romance someone else in ME2 but when ever possible I try to get back with Liara (when you first find in ME2 and again in the Shadow Broker DLC).
In ME3 she'll drop hints to loving you still and also share a super amazing moments on the Citadel and it all leads to an amazing cutscene.
My first time playing ME was ME3 and my first romance was her, so I heard this before. The bad part was most characters were already dead or die in the story like Miranda. It was terrible. I love my ME3 play through I’m in now!

Garrus the soldier/sniper, liara the biotic support and then shep (i played tech the most). Its a dream, glass canon team
@@TheHorreK2 I usually play as an Infiltrator so especially in ME 1 Liara and Garrus make for a super balanced team for me. It also helps that they are two of my favorite squadmates. Just replayed through the Feros mission in Legendary Edition and we wrecked shop together.

You most definitely can, and it's the same if you play ME3 with no imported save. You can only start a relationship with Liara, Kaidan/Ashley, Traynor or Steve.
You can't romance Garrus in 3 unless you romanced him in 2. Liara can be romanced in 1/3 or just 3.

as a huge Mass effect fan... every play through. when I choose a certain companion to be in a romance.. and faithful of all three games.
This awaits me later this evening. Just need to wrap up the party. Really salty I couldn't do the paramour achi in ME2. Also missed on Kelly taking care of my fish. I'm too faithful to Liara what can I say. Out ouf my countless playthroughs I did Tali once, Garrus once and Traynor once and every time else I end with Li. Hard to ignore that cute blue specimen.

On my very first playtrough, I got this outcome. I wanted to experience the game without tranfering progress. Therefore I could see the default setting. Now we have genesis of course, but back then we had just random save files downloadable from the internet. Afterwards, I always carried my saves from the first and second games. I still mostly ended up with Liara, but that is just my obsession towards her I guess.
Why would you want to not play with your transfer save on your first playthrough? That’d ruin the game for me
I tried that and having no Jack at Grissom hacked me off. The defaults that were programmed in were crap. It was like Shep was played by a wishy washy idiot choosing nearly all the worst choices.

Question: Are there any exclusive dialogues for deaths of previous love interests? Like if (mega sad): Tali, Garrus, etc die during the collector base.. are there moments that reflect that when starting up a romance in ME3? If Tali trusted me enough to choose me, then she dies in the collector base that’s f*kn tragic.. and it would feel awfully sad - though appreciated - if someone like Liara or the Virmire survivor.. even Mordin mentioned it.
So what happens in me1 if you romance Ashley and Liara both to the point where they fight over who you want to be with and then sacrifice Ashley after choosing her? Could you still get with Liara after?
