  • In this vlog I am restyling our porch, our véranda as they say in French. I also show you how our garden turned out after months of work. Although it is still not finished it is finally starting to look like the french farmhouse style garden that I have seen in my head all this time.

    Your porch transformation is beautiful. A place anyone would love to sit and contemplate life. You did a fantastic job on the table and I like your decor items you selected to adorn the room. Very well done. Magazine worthy.

    Wat is je ‘porch’ mooi geworden zeg, en dat tafeltje… een droom. Ik heb ook wel oude meubelstukjes opgeknapt, van oude donker eiken (met was) naar rustiek gebleekt eiken. Ik schuurde dan tot alle oude was en lak er af was en bleekte het stuk dan met dunne bleek in een sprayfles (oude glassexfles of zo) en liet het dan goed drogen. Verder deed ik er niets aan, ook super mooi🤎🤎🤎

    you can use a brush and make the paint in the constancy of milk. Brush it on and let it soak in the wood. Then dry and varnish.

    Hello Marloes - I LOVE this video - from morning to night. The beautiful countryside footage, the sounds of the insects at the end, and the peaceful music. Your veranda looks so inviting now and the colours you have chosen are so lovely and peaceful. Thank you sooo much for sharing that technique for lightening the wood on the table - I have a kitchen table which gives off those orange tones too and have been looking for how to bring out more natural/muted tones - I will try this method too. Best wishes from wintery New Zealand :-)

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for your kind words! A small disclaimer for the technique: the lady that I learned this from says it is only suited for ensuring the unfinished wood will look unfinished after applying a protection coat. It is not suited to whiten furniture. If your wood is very red toned, it may turn out pink 🙈 My table was fine though and I was willing to take the risk. Maybe try it out on an invisible part of the piece of furniture first, I did that and saw it would be fine. I have used a mat protective coat.

    Hoi Marloes, tip je kunt meubels die in de (bijen)was staan ook met een stuk recht glas afschrapen, bij rondingen in het meubel zou je ook een stuk staal of oude beitel kunnen gebruiken die in de vorm van de ronding is geslepen het eerst schrapen scheelt je heel veel volgelopen schuurpapier. Daarna schuren met korrel 80 gevolgd door korrel 120 en hoger tot je het gewenste resultaat hebt bereikt. Overigens ziet jullie tuin er fantastisch uit petje af. kijk altijd uit naar de filmpjes van Olaf en ga nu ook French Country Life volgen. dikke duim.

    The beginning of this video was so calming and beautiful! Loved the space you created! We’ve got an atelier with the stone walls similar to you however it’s going to require a lot of work, the floors are mix of stone and dirt. 🤪Did you to redo the flooring?

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  Před 3 lety

      No the floor was like this. I liked it with the style of the rest of the space so luckily I could leave it this way. It’s concrete and adding something on top would have forced me to change the steel door as well 🤯

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  Před 3 lety

      I only now realize your floor is probably like ours was in our old stables: stones, dirt and cow sh*#. We scooped all of it out and put in floor insulation and a concrete floor. You would want to put in a concrete floor at minimum or if it is a living space, add insulation. Our porch had an old concrete floor that we left as is. You’re probably counting down to september when you’re moving! Such a wonderful thing to look forward to!

    I have enjoyed watching the process of making the French house your own. One question, what material do you use to put under the pebbles? usually the weeds come through, but, not in your case. Thanks.

    • @FrenchCountryLife
      @FrenchCountryLife  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! We use “géotextile” underneath, which is very efficient! You still get some weeds (from grains falling from the trees that then grow onto the pebbles but they are super easy to pull out. I don’t know the name in english but Google will know 😇
