    When Pink Floyd performed this in the US, they traveled with 4 48' military grade mobile generators. There wasn't a stadium built with enough electrical input to run the show. Saw this show the second night they played in Oakland, CA. This concert was 10x more than anything you could possibly imagine. People were walking out of the Coliseum in tears. Some folks were just flat stunned, trying to process what they had just experienced. It was nothing short of euphoric.

      I saw it twice & I can’t describe the way I felt, Gilmour & the Floyd delivered on an epic scale that no one was ready for especially after waters was 100% let’s say “absent” & the new music they produced for this tour is up there with their best concepts, it was all just 🙏….all of it 🤷‍♂️

    I was fortunate enough to see them in 94 here in the states. During this solo, we saw them uncover the mirror ball, down on the field, and before we could figure out what it was, WHAM the entire place is lit up. That was a life changing experience for a 16 year old kid. :)

    The blond girl is Sam Brown who was a POP music artist in the UK at the time. Sam put her own career on hold (she had a #1 hit in the UK) so she could be a 'back up singer' for Pink Floyd for these series of concerts. How respected was Pink Floyd? No other band like them ever!

    Along with my two brothers, I saw this show performed at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. An enduring memory from when they performed this song, was when I took a look at my youngest brother, and saw that he had his hands up, holding his head together. That solo nearly caused 40,000 heads to explode.

    Look up any song from this concert and be amazed. When they brought this concert to the San Francisco Bay Area (Oakland Coliseum) I stood in line for 3 days to get tickets. I was lucky to get tickets for all 3 nights. It was a true experience. On the 3rd night a low cloud cover blew in and when the laser lights hit the moving clouds it created a whole new light show experience.

    The album came out in 1979. I was fortunate enough to see this the first time around in 1980 for The Wall tour. Just an FYI - watch the lighting. When the band plays the dark parts, the lights go darker. When Gilmour sings his parts, the lights go white. The music was written by Gilmour for a solo project that never happened. That BIG circle plays an important part of the show. During other songs, videos were playing in that circle. BTW - Pink Floyd rarely blocks a video. There are literally hundreds of Floyd reaction videos.

    Check out the song "One of These Days" same concert or the one they played right after Comfortably Numb called "Run Like Hell", as their closing song! Every one of their songs in this concert is like a grand finale at someone else's concert!! Or for that matter almost any song from the 1994 Pulse concert is jaw-dropping! Also the large crowd you see was there 15 nights in a row as they sold out 15 straight nights!!

  • @RogerM9
    @RogerM9 Před 3 lety +18

    That's what happens when you forget to give a budget figure to your lighting effects designer. And that sound comes from a 220,000 watt sound system. The glitter ball was over 15ft in diameter, and the lasers were a new experimental design, and PF cornered the entire world's supply at the time. They had 3 separate stage sets - one in use, one being dismantled from the previous venue and one being set up at the next. In all, there was 700 tons of gear transported on 53 articulated trucks, with a road crew of 161. They also used an Antonov military cargo plane plus 2 x cargo Boeing 747s. But it would all have been for nothing if the music wasn't also epic. Time, Sorrow, Wish You Were Here, One of These Days and the finale - Run Like Hell should all be on your reaction list. Also "Brain Damage and Eclipse" (never separate them) which is rarely reacted to - but really you cannot go wrong with anything from "Pulse". We all wax lyrical over David Gilmour's guitar playing, but don't forget Tim Renwick's contribution with his spontaneous "jam" session on "Another Brick in the Wall". Apparantly it was never the same 2 nights running!

    • @RushfanUK
      @RushfanUK Před 2 lety +2

      Gilmour was always quite vocal about the stage show and that it should be a big spectacular event, he was also critical of other major artists who in his mind short changed the audience with their stage shows at the time.

Have never seen a better concert, The Wall was released in 1979. There's a restored and re-edited version of this released in 2019 with a lot of different camera angles, but I actually prefer this version.

      yes this version is better as it shows more light directions.

      I agree. Always wonder why they didn't use that footage in the original.

    If you notice on all these reaction videos they all start listening while sitting still, then the head starts moving and by the end their in full on head banging mode. Brilliant

    Pink Floyd released superior video of the PULSE concert including Comfortably Numb in 2019 as re-edited and remastered. Definitely watch those over the older higher viewed videos which CZcamsrs upload years ago from their VHS copies. Sadly, these older videos get highlighted over the newer superior versions.

    There is some new footage of the Wall out on CZcams. A whole concert as well as separate songs. I have some links saved if you need them! I’m blown away every time I see Pink Floyd play. Favorite band of all time. I love watching your reactions, going to look up more! Also this version of comfortably numb inspired me to buy the whole Pulse DVD. Totally worthwhile, although you can also find the full concert on here as well.

    The best thing about this performance is to look at the front rows! There’s no jumping around - they’re all just mesmerised!

    The only band in history there ever will be that is better live than in the studio, Gilmours live sound & recreation of Pink Floyd music makes him the GOAT, this should be uncontested, no band or solo artist will ever do it better 😏

    Most great guitarists walk on stage, plug in their guitar to a pedal-board and amplifier, and produce amazing music.
    David Gilmour walks on stage, plugs his guitar into his sould and your heart, and channels the feelings right into you.
    This solo has been the most widely recognised GOAT ever since it was first performed, and now you know why.
    As for why the whole thing isn't on the original album - the fully extended version as you heard here hadn't been written back then (it was only fully developed for live shows), and if all the extended parts of the songs had been written and included, it wouldn't have fit on the album - especially when you consider that it was back in the days of vinyl and compact cassettes.

    I was blessed enough to see Pink Floyd in '87 and in '94...yes, the '94 show was this same one, just a different venue. The whole show was amazing though. When the 'disco ball' opened up during the solo, I caught myself with a slack-jawed expression on my face. I looked around and everyone else was the same way! Yeah, they had put us all in a trance...a wonderful trance where music was everything, and the world was a better place for that brief moment in time.
