I picked this up to be my first ever retro handheld. I was sold thanks to your review. I have fairly big hands, but i have no issues holding this for a couple of hours. I'm also finally able to play SMRPG after over 20 years without. Very happy with the purchase, though I will definitely snag a RG351M in the future. Thanks for the great video!
Hi, I know the comment is one year old but maybe you know is there any way to connect the rg280 to tv?
I’m perfectly content with my RK2020 but I LOVE the aesthetic of this. I just wanna hold, set it on my desk, just look at it.
😅
voyeur... xD
Looks neat, doesn't it ?!?! I wonder why aren't them offering 8 inch versions of whatever they make . A 8 inch 4/3 tablet would be perfect
You know... this comment came off a lot weirder than I thought it would
i get the rk2020 too, is not my favorite my top 5 handhelds gpd xd plus, lcl piboy, experimental pi boy, rg350M/rg351p, ldk lanscape,
Ah, this has the potential to become the modern GameBoy Micro or 2DS. I just think maybe the price should go down first, since it's priced too close to one of their flagships.
Agreed, $60 would be a perfect price for it.
I think the price is right for this quality. Smaller device screen ect doesn't mean cheaper, the argument "for 10 more u got retroid2" isn't valid. Understand I like paying less but u know with anbernic you will get long term quality, and compact quality in that case
@@JBentham1523 smaller screen and no analog sticks. It looks like a well made device but this price doesn't work when there other devices out there with bigger screen and sticks.
@@DenkyManner different usage, some phones cost more than a tablet even tho specs are inferior
@@JBentham1523 It's not just 'for 10 more you get Retroid 2', it's 'for 20 more you get RG351P, which is Anbernic's current flagship model'. This is a really handsome device (tho I can't imagine going with something other than the red and gold, that shit is pure 80s bliss) there's no doubt about it, but for a few bucks more you get a powerhouse that comes packed with games and has a more comfortable form factor.
I do like the looks of this handheld, that's it 😅
As an owner of this and multiple Anbernic handhelds; the included Sonic the Hedgehog ROM in the Sega Genesis file is actually the Master System version. As you can see in the video.
Got mine yesterday. It is great!! It got delivered to NY in a week.
I just bought 5 of them to give as gifts for Christmas.
Damn, Anbernic's really elevated themselves from when I first heard about them in the SouljaGame days (when he went and started reselling them).
I would've loved having something like this growing up.
Got one of these after watching this video . Came today . Its a fantastic device . Thank you
A new channel to follow and love. Great content. Fantastic presentation.
Hey there :) is there a „fast forward“ function within the emulators (GB/C/A)? Helpful when it comes to games like Pokémon or Golden sun.
I do live the dimensions and shapes on this thing. It's cute, and it's fun.
Mine should be here real soon, I can't wait lool. The screen is impressive, must be the thin outer border. Your camera is out of this world and it gets up close and personal with the device🔥. Great content as always👍
Thanks mate, we're looking forward to your review!
is there a way to configure the screen resolution so it will have the correct aspect ratio? only because having blurs or rectangled pixels bug me
8:27 mark gogo pocket powaaaaaaaaaaaa
Is the screen really smaller when you consider the black bars on the 351p to get the correct aspect ratio?
Another great review.
Just subscribed to the podcast as well. ✌️😎
Awesome. That looks so cool. Thanks for the review.
Anbernic is making the best handhelds 👍🏻
Agreed, they're making some awesome stuff!
yup they are
Best quality. Their chips are still outdated and weak. Hopefully they step it up next yr tho. Waiting for another handheld with hdmi out that isn't as clunky as the Retroid Pocket 2
GPD
That is a rip-off Boycott them
Is the amount of over hang from the face buttons or small form factor top heavy when holding or uncomfortable/cramped in anyway? Something this pocketable would be a good option for outings if the size isn't too much of a compromise
Can you put it next to a gbc? Also with this menu if you do a hard shutdown will the sd card corrupt?
Hell yes I need this in my life top vid thanks dodo
Price seems right to me. You could think its expensive or only $20 more than a AAA title that might not even function at launch...
just ordered 2 days ago. Got a long wait ahead of me but I feel its worth it.
High quality product, anbernic is really one step ahead knowing what retro gamers want. Can't wait to receive mine
Enjoy it!
Honestly this the only I've ever liked from these guys
When I enter the emulators and choose an emulator I can no longer see the list of games and select a game that starts. Only folders open and I can't start any games! What have I unintentionally changed, how can I get back to playing?
I really wish you'd find out some of the harder to emulate games and see how they work. Akumajo Densetsu (Castlevania 3 with a special chip) or Summer Carnival 92 Recca for Famicom, Star Fox or the intro to Final Fantasy 3 for Super NES, Gunstar Heroes for Genesis/Mega Drive, etc. Games that really put a strain on the original hardware. Show us how good the emulation is instead of using Super Mario Bros DX, Super Mario Bros 3, and a Game Gear Sonic game (described as Genesis/Mega Drive).
Hi, what about the time set up for pokemon games, does that work too?
Hello i just bought the rg280v with preinstalled games, do you recommend to switch out the cards to better quality cards. And also is it just to drag and drop to the new cards. I would really appreciate your help thanks.
Hey retro dodo, the games that you’re playing on it come installed in the console or how are you playing those games there? Looking to buy a small one for my first time
I just ordered one of these two days ago, and I’m glad to see you have favorable first impressions. I only want to play snes/gba and below, and I love the vertical design/form factor, so I think I’m gonna enjoy it. I already have an rg300 that I love, but it’s underpowered, and I have an rg350m, which obviously runs great, but I don’t like the weight of it or its horizontal design. I’m hoping this 280v will be the best of both systems for me.
So I want one of these as well but tell me how did it fare? Do you like it? Is it worth it? I only want to play gb, gba, snes and maybe some arcade games. I like the looks of it.
@@arey256 it’s an awesome little device, and it plays gba/snes games perfectly. It is a little small, though, which is great for portability but a little cramped for long gaming sessions, especially if you have adult-sized hands.
Now that the 351v is out, I would get that instead, personally. It’s got a similar but better form factor, and it is more powerful.
Also, my 280v did have a defect (a white line of dead pixels running down the left edge of the screen), and Anbernic was surprisingly unhelpful with the issue. Otherwise it still works and looks great, though, and given Anbernic’s usual level of quality, I think I just got unlucky with mine.
@@rsiv5156 are you going to wait and get the rg552?
@@arey256 I haven’t heard of that one, I’ll have to check it out. I think I’m probably good with the handhelds I have, though. Like you, I mostly just play the gba/snes stuff, and the 280v has that covered.
@@rsiv5156 sounds good. I want to get one but I’m not sure which one to get at the same time I’m not tech savvy so I would prefer if they were just pick up and play. Lol
Honestly best review ever I’ve been looking for a honest straight forward review on this because all the others just talk about comparing the others just showing nonsense I just want to know what games it comes with it and what it’s offers
Wish I could get this internals in a rg300 form factor. Love the aesthetics of the rg300 it just needs some more oomph.
That’s exactly what I was just saying. I think this 280v is about the closest thing to that right now. There is also a new powkiddy vertical unit with good specs (the rgb90), but I don’t like the aesthetics of it at all.
Sooooo... which handheld works best for MAME emulation with minimal fuss?
Does anyone know how to change the screen brightness?
Hey question for anyone who can help. I bought the gamekiddy 350h last year and I have like 300 plus games on it all emulators work great but i could never get the ps1 games to boot up. The roms all came from the same source. Do i need to compress the file or is there something I'm missing. Also Retro dodo if I upgraded my system bought one of this years models will I run into the same problem or should they boot up?
Thank you
I Was just looking at this handheld last night
Nice little device, thank you, Brandon
I want this one but I will want the next one too :-). Thanks Retro Dodo!
Any time! Thanks for watching!
Hi
Im thinking to buy rg351p.... which one is better ?
Now this looks like a handheld I'd like to get my hands on.
Are there multiple n64 emulators for this system and if so what's the best one?
This is the most underrated channel ive ever watched
Eh, I dislike this dude.
underrated???! xD he‘s got more than 200.000 subs...
How come?
@@RetroDodo prior videos with loads of clickbait and slating consoles at times.
@@RetroDodo They dislike you because theyre a bunch of snobs on the retro handheld gaming discord and they point out every and any mistake you make. Sorry I want the truth out there.
I ORDERED MINE FROM THE LINK IN THE DESCRIPTION AND IT DIDNT COME WITH THE MICRO SD CARD WITH GAMES :( im just seriously confused if it was supposed to come with it or not. I was really expecting it to and got my hopes up.
I swear Genesis/Mega Drive games used to look a whole lot better...
(I know it's a Game Gear game. I'm just having a little fun.)
Yeah that Sonic game is the Master System/Game Gear 8 bit porting.
@@rafaelinhos no it is a game gear/master system original called sonic chaos
How well does it play the games that are more challenging to emulate? When I see these videos, they mostly show off the launch titles that don't push the original hardware that much. Like how well does it run Rhythm Tengoku (aka Rhythm Heaven) for the GBA? A lot of weaker devices struggle with audio(popping sounds) and timing(frame delays after button presses). I love the quality of the video though with great lighting. You really get a sense of the build quality of the device. It is quite thick though.
How do we install the games on there?
Some emulators sometimes cut the edges of the game badly.
In this RG280V but when you switch from game boy games to super nintendo games
does the sreen size fit the game automatically ?
You can choose to make it full-screen or no scaling (you will lose some screen size but quality is perfect, I prefer this)
But on this console with super Nintendo you don't lose much with no scaling
Where can I get this in Canada ?
Mine came with 5000 games
BTW your reviews are awesome as always my friend 😎
on my rg280v when i try to load a ps1 game, it says "Please insert Playstation CD-ROm" what do i do?
You need to download custom firmware
Anyone tested playing apple2/zx spectrum or commodore 64? Heard it is possible
Is the screen resolution better than the RG351P? The game display on this handheld better than RG351P in the video.
yes it is because of the Screen Ratio the gg351p is very stretched
you order the powkiddy rgb20 too?
This is a MIPS powered device right? Last time I heard MIPS was risking it on on RISC (now RISC-V).
Lover your reviews!
I have a PSP that I've been using for the past 12 years and I'm thinking about upgrading. Which would you recommend, the retroflag gameboy DMG (4 button version) or this? Thanks for your help
Take a look at the PiBoy DMG that's a beast.
Can you run imported ROMs on it?
Can you fast forward gba gameplay like my boy emulator
Anyone recommends any good gameBoy advance pre loaded system?
I got one for 73 dollars on the 11/11 Chinese black Friday, I figured that at that price it was worth it, can't wait for it to arrive!
I like it, but I’m tempted by the 351V, mainly for the larger screen.
Hi Retro Dodo, great review of the cool Ambernic Handheld. A feedback to give to you, You pinned the Sonic in Sega Genesis Gameplay, but the Sonic in the video is the one of Game Gear if i am not wrong, right?
You are correct! Wrong logo! Sorry 😩😩
Hey man, I have a MacBook with a ton of ROMs. Is it pretty easy to transfer the ROMs onto the SD card? Every video tutorial I find is using Windows 10 with some sort of software to transfer the roms? Any Help?
I use a MacBook. I just a use dongle and put my Roms on that.
My retro handheld is an android based one, so I have all the emulators I need, and some people I’m sure, just use the android device directly to download the roms.
Anyway I have no trouble with this.
@@sloppynyuszi Thanks so much. Been wanting to get one of these handhelds but every tutorial is using windows and Im just iffy. Thanks again!
Just plug in your SD card and load the roms on there
Will you do the GKD Mini?
After the Gamecube video, I am waiting for him to say "It doesn't play Gameboy games"
How's the screen? Does it looke sharp like a real console, especially on pixel at games?
Really sharp and beautiful
Is it easy to download all these games?
That looks really nice 🤠
It is! Thanks for watching!
I like how it outlined with black and it's white inside and that the bumpers are on the top
RDD, do you like the RG more than the RP2?
Just a little tip but Game and Watch games look and play fantastically well on this device. Just choose your game and press select to make it full screen and it looks like this device was made specifically for it.
I need the build quality of anbernic and the internals and menus of retroid pocket 2 in my life...
@Wally Prichard I ordered the Funkey S in December on indiegogo. Should arrive next month.
What's the best handheld?
On the fence whether to get this 280V, 351P, or the Super Console X.
Major question for this review! Which one do you prefer? The Miyoo Mini or the 280V?
Miyoo Mini
My rg280v came with a screen that is protruding out on one side a little bit.... I'm afraid to take it back because I saw that allt of people who took there device back appearantly were not able to get there money back even when they complained.
The RG280V is a interesting looking device. But I swore to myself to wait until Anbernic (or someone else) comes up with a handheld able to emulate PS2 titles. Until then I will keep using the RG350M.
Fair enough!
It's 2022 and it still hasn't happened.
@@exPDXbear85 ayn odin?
@@exPDXbear85 its coming!
Wish I knew how to emulate , I would totally get one of these things ... they are super nice
It comes with the emulators so all you need to do is download ROMs onto a SD card :)
How to Install the Games ?
Brandon I want to see the retroid pocket 2 with android oreo
I like the design I’m a little concerned because you said it lacks power. But the aesthetic of it looks sweet
Does Simple Menu work with this?
👍
Picked up an RG351P for $40 so I’m happy about it :)
Where?
I’m getting a Funkey S. But I’m also holding out for this in the fuller size GB like the RG300.
Yeah. I told myself I only really needed one retro handheld, so I picked up an RB2. The moment I saw the Funkey S I had to preorder. Love that thing.
On aliexpress they're selling it with a 64gb card with a bunch of preloaded roms
Awesome video as always. Think I'm gonna have to ask my other half for one of those anbernic ones for Christmas. Will be weird in a few years when we have hand helds with PS2 onwards and you'll be saying "it can't run Xbox series X very well but it's not bad" 🤣🤣🤣
Hahah right 😂
LMAO 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for your video❤️ still waiting for mine:)
Btw, i thought you was thinking not to review this one!? What changed your mind?
You guys changed our mind. 😂 The demand for a video was high for this one. :)
Can it run ds games?
You played Sega Master System rom in the Genesis section.
How do you download games on it?!!!
manually drag/drop or copy game files to the "TF2/EXT" sd card with your pc into their proper system (NES/SNES/etc) folder, then put the SD card back into the unit
I am debating on getting this, or the 351P. I already have a Switch that can emulate and play amazing games, so I just want something niche that I can bring to my work washroom without carrying a giant system in my pocket.
You should make a Console collection(non Handheld consoles)
Interesting!
No dishonour in reading the manual. No one has ever died from doing so.
Crash looks so sick on this console
That is bast handheld game play machine
is there a custom rom image for this devices like this something similar to the LDK..
we knew this was coming
Hi. Nice device. But can you show how SNES Starfox is working? Because it is absolute garbage on my RG350M... Thanks.
Would be nice if some of these new console allowed me to use my actual gameboy cartridges.
