      Agreed, Dooku was one of the biggest reasons Sidious succeeded in taking down the Jedi. Dooku did all the dirty work that needed to be done and he was the perfect distraction for the Jedi as Sidious furthered his plans in the shadows. For Sidious to give Dooku such a great responsibility and trust in his plans and execution of it, really shows how formidable Dooku really is. Without someone like Dooku, who could single handily stand on his own against some of the greatest Jedi ever and execute all of Sidious’ plans in the war with success, Sidious may have failed.

      @Naseem Weathers I'm not sure how accurate that is. Usually two lightsabers are portrayed as having less powerful attacks whereas a single blade in two hands is more powerful. Also Dooku was a master of dueling, I'm not sure someone using two blades would overwhelm him unless they were as skilled at duel wielding as he was at bladed combat.

    when I was younger, I watched historical fencing duels at my club which Involved using a rapier and a dagger at once. I think that this demonstrates how there can also be a lot of finesse in using multiple weapons because all of a sudden, having two weapons in-stead of one requires more co-ordination from the wielder in-order to be fully effective IMO. I also brought this up due to the fact that form 2 in star wars was based off of fencing, so I think Dooku should have realized this and not seen it as a cheap trick as much as a different fighting style.

    @Forestxavier20 Před rokem +1

    Entirely valid coming from Dooku, as this man was originally a Jedi many years before major conflicts occurred, so he would likely view a lightsaber as a tool to rely back upon rather than an aggressive front. Just look at the three forms used. Makashi (Form II) for Dooku, Soresu (Form III) for Obi-Wan, and Djem So (Form V) for Anakin.
    Form II was the dueling form and was perfect for lightsaber or melee engagements. This means that whenever Dooku was in a fight with Obi-Wan or Anakin, both of them were truly at a disadvantage as this form was dedicated to outmaneuvering your opponent rather than brute forcing it. This represents the perfect balance of one's self in a way. He is defensive enough to avoid being taken down by Anakin's Form V, but aggressive enough to exploit the openings that Anakin leaves.
    Form III is a generally defensive form; blocking blasters and fighting multiple opponents was the main strengths of Soresu, so Kenobi was better at overall defense, but he could likely never land a hit on Dooku. Kenobi was a defensive fighter and left himself as counterbalancing Anakin's offense. Dooku would have to focus on defending himself from two fronts to ensure he didn't lose his head, but he'd only really have one person he could truly get to.
    Form V is where things get interesting. Anakin practiced Djem So whilst Ashoka practiced Shien style Form V. Both of these forms are aggressive forms and dedicated to different aspects of creating openings. Shien or dual wielding is much more effective in general combat situations whilst Djem So was better for melee engagements. Anakin was the offensive half to Obi-Wan's defense. Whilst Obi-Wan was protecting himself and attempting to throw Dooku off his game, Anakin was pushing and aggressive, attempting to create weaknesses to exploit.
    So all in all, the strategy for both sides was to create a wall then exploit weakness. Anakin and Obi-Wan had each one acting as half of the whole, whilst Dooku acted as both sides of the same coin. They both sought to exploit weakness whilst on the defensive, Dooku just had the better styling for balanced lightsaber combat and that allowed for him to end in victories or at least draws every time.

As a martial artist myself, I've trained with sword, staff, and other weapons. The sword is my preferred weapon and I have practiced with both one and two weapons. If I were a jedi though, I think I would carry two lightsabers, but typically focus on one and only occasionally use two if I felt I needed to catch an enemy off guard or I was at a disadvantage. Dooku seems like the sort of person who would see that the DBL is a powerful weapon but also see it as too dangerous to the user itself. He could have even cited that the only person who actually wielded the DBL to its fullest potential was Exar Kun due to Kun's extremely powerful and precise Force potential which allowed him to control the length of each blade, thus robbing the DBL of its weakness where most of its strikes and blocks would be at half power. Kun could strike or block with full power via the control of the size of each of the blades which Maul (or Bastila or the Inquisitors) lack the capability to do so.

      Obiwan was speaking in a general sense however. As we see nowhere in his character throughout the rest of the universe, legends or new Canon, that he looked down upon the use of two sabers or double bladed lightsabers. He was a highly skilled and refined single blade dualist in his own right and is the reason that in the long run he could hold his own against Dooku. As by the time he reached the level of master he was considered to be in a similar skill range as Windu. All forms that the Jedi taught, be it single, double or dual bladed, were trained with fluid motion and that 'dance' like structure that Dukoo so sought and saw other forms of saber to be heavily lacking. All well trained jedi should fight with a fluidity and grace, which we see drop off during the clone wars as even Padawans later in their training were rushed through blade to blade combat training. Not that it dropped quality in all places, but still.

The enemies he faced more often than not were using just a single katana, he would use a Katana with his dominant hand and the shorter Wakizashi in the other. He created this style ( Niten ichi Ryu-two swords under heaven) and was able to engage and defeat dozens of enemies at once. He took on legendary swordsman that were known throughout all of Japan and some of them where revered as far as China and Korea. It is ironic that all his disciplines used special weapons if he hated it. Ventress (and before her, his original padawan Komari Vosa in legends) used two, Grievous used four, and for some reason, he started to train Savage Opress with a saberstaff too. Then I really don't get what is his problem, he chose to give these weapons to his apprentices, so of course they are using them.
    While Dooku obviously had a personal hatred toward Maul for killing Qui-gon (something he would never tell anyone after his fall), I think he is right about Maul. He is extremely aggressive, and his form and style makes him rather impatient, which is blinding him. He did not have the patience to safely finish off Obi-wan after he pushed him off, he did not have the patience to slowly overwhelm him with the help of Savage Opress when they cornered him, and he did not have the patience at the end to approach his duel with Obi-wan intelligently. Both him and Grievous have this need to rush a fight, which is a good thing if you can actually pull it off, but they leave themselves more open when the fight is not won quickly. At the end, they always forget to defend themselves properly. I don't think he is considering these weapons as cheating, he merely think that by choosing specialized weapons, these combatants restrict themselves. Objectively speaking, two lightsabers should be stronger than one, a saberstaff is more versitile, and the inquisitor lightsaber is probably the strongest lightsaber type in canon, but if someone relies on a weapon instead of mastering it, it may stunt the combatant's growth. You don't have to be good against most opponents if you have four rotating arms with lightsabers, most foes will be toast before the tenth second of the fight.

    1. To quote Viral "...surprise attacks need more than suprise. It won't work again." The problems with using tricks are that they rarely work in all honesty, but even the ones that work don't work over and over. If I were to assess Dooku's interpretation I would say that rather than condemn their form I would condemn their dependence upon that form, and the use of multiple blades and tricks was essentially an admission to their opponents as well as themselves that they were incapable of progressing any further in their form sufficiently enough to counter their opponent's skill in their form(s) and an inability to learn more than one form. That being said, while neither Maul nor Grievous were ever true Sith, such insistence, force, and aggression certainly would have been very fitting of dark siders... However, once again we see that Dooku was never a full blown Sith and in fact was always a little too much a Jedi to ever be a true Sith. His dedication to a dual style allowed growth beyond what most forms would have likely offered. And between these two points his assessment would seem to have quite a bit of truth from his perspective. From mine, anyone practicing a combative art should know that if the goal is not victory then it cannot be called a martial art. That being said Dooku was great for his ability to see victory can come in many forms, and was always calculating and quick to turn any victory of the Jedi into a defeat as a result of this. Overall, I think Dooku had the right idea even though I'd say I believe his ego got the best of him far too often.

    agreed. but i got one point that doesnt agree. usage of double bladed sabre is compared to a dance many times right. requiaring great footwork and awerness.

    If anything, I’d say Maul relied MORE on his body than his blade(s). He was an absolutely incredible duelist in his prime. And, I’d go so far as to say that he was an even more difficult opponent for Obi-Wan than Anakin. Obi-Wan had spent years training with Anakin, so by the time they had their showdown on Mustafar, he knew exactly what to expect from him. Maul, on the other hand, was something he’d never encountered before and never would again. He was lightning fast, incredibly agile, fiercely dominant and relentless; even more so than Anakin. To say that Obi-Wan was lucky to emerge victorious would be an understatement.
    I understand Dooku’s more gentlemanly perspective, and I can appreciate a man who shows a certain degree of respect towards his opponent. But, ultimately, in any sort of lethal combat, you are there to kill your opponent, not dance with them. And well, the results speak for themselves: Maul may have gotten it right across the middle, but Dooku lost his hands, and was then executed in disgrace with two blades (“ironic...”).
    Maul had the more correct mindset: dominate the battlespace, overwhelm your opponent and finish them as quickly as possible.

    Count Dooku may have been correct. As I understand it the Sabre - Staff is primarily a weapon meant to cause fear in one’s opponent. To use it effectively requires long term training and to be strong in the force, otherwise you risk critical injury to your self not your opponent. As to using multiple blades at once that is a different question, it depends on a person preferred Duelling Form. I suspect that Count Dooku would of been able to adapt the use of two blades with his preferred Form. Perhaps using a Shoto style Light Sabre with his Duelling Sabre? I could see that as being highly effective with his preferred Form.

    Dooku also used the curved hilt as a trick to out wit his duelists.
