Thanks for the review. No doubt it's a beast of a lens! Nobody compares the image quality, the fall-off and most of all the bokeh to the old EF 300 2.8 L IS II USM. Would love to see this.
Excellent review !! Thanks guys
Thanks Joel!
Just love this Lens ...Took it to the Woodlands of NC USA it nail the focus on a quick small warblers with 2x Telconverter and still razor sharp . Kepps details better in Long distance shots for ID shots of a Seabirds who often are far out ...Both 1.4 and 2.0 TC works and i can not see much diff in sharpness.Super fast lens and focus much faster then my old 300mm f2.8 and even usable for great landscapes shots..Just love it and i have the RF800mm F11 which is quite nice in the right Light cond and also the 100-500mm but this Lens is the winner as the background and foreground blur makes the Object you are shooting outstanding ...Wurth it ? for me it is Yes as like you said in your Video sitting in and drive ferrari this is a good Compair as it feels nice to work with this lens and it is super solid weather sealed and ready for a rough situation ...I just love it i got the only one in Iceland so far and here the Summer lights are nice but we have short period of light and in the autumn and winter it is very lack of light so f2.8 + high ISO makes it easier for me and btw i use it with Canon R 6 Mark II and put a Battery grip on it as it works faster with two batteries as the second focus motor does not get enough energy from one batteri
Whats the best mirrorless body for this lense to shoot videos?
Good to see a comparison with Nikon and Sigma variants against this Canon
with my R3 and the great high iso I can shoot the 100-500 will suit me fine for 1/3rd the cost
Yeah until you shoot indoors. This is a lens made to be used indoors. I use an R3 and R5. 100-500 is miserable indoors. 7.1 is way too dark. Hell even 2.8 isn't enough sometimes.
If you're only shooting outside in sunlight yeah sure but you wouldn't be using this lens there anyway, but you would the moment the sun goes down. This lens is basically a photojournalists wet dream
Canon should have given the option of a 1.4 x extender variant. That would be an absolute winner.
