I feel like such a rube. I had never thought of leaving the board attached when fixing the hinges. That is such a time and accuracy and adjustment saver.
presterjohn71 I'm always learning new techniques myself. Thanks for watching.
Lewis! I absolutely love this video. You found the perfect combination of storytelling and instruction, and your work is absolutely perfect!
Thanks for the wonderful comment!
I sure am glad I found this video first! Perfect demo for my lid fitting.
Great. Good luck with your project.
Thanks for the piano hinge install tips!
Agreed! Robertson screws for the win!

Hello my Canadian friend!
This is exactly what I need to make! I have zero experience and this video was a perfect guide! Thanks
Good luck. Let me know if you have other questions
Thank you for making the video. This really helped me not overly complicate a project.
Your welcome. Good luck installing your hinge
The best yet!!!!
Thank you!
Exactly what I was looking for - thank you sir!
Happy it was helpful. Thanks for the comment
Very nice work! I love the pencil. :)

eu feliz que você gostou do vídeo. obrigado por comentar
I work for a hand surgeon and was so worried for you when you use your finger to feel the screws through the wood at the end of the video, since I've treated patients with injuries from doing exactly this 😅 Definitely not recommended for newbies, but I'm glad that you were safe!
Great video and advice for installation otherwise, thanks!
I've done my share of dumb things. I once shot a framing nail through my hand nailing a board to my hand. I'll try to stay safe. Thanks for commenting.
Excelente. Muy bueno
Muchas gracias senor
Why do you not hide the hinge.....having a visible hinge ruins the look of the overall piece....all for use of cabinet hinges or hiding this inside the back seam to be hinged....with only visible thing being hinge spine.
The client is putting a upholstered cushion over the bench.
I think adding a nice decorative hinge can be appealing. Aesthetics, as you've pointed out, is about the viewer.
@TonyDracon - ??? Install hinge inside gap.... like on a piano.... "piano hinge"!!!
The only purpose I can think you would want it on the outside is to hide a bad cut they are ment to be recessed.
Very in formative. I want to install a piano hinge on an existing cabinet / dresser as the current "pivot" type hinges have broken twice. The door is 27 wide by 30 high and 3/4 thick and weighs 18 lbs. But the dresser if far too heavy to lay on its back. Any suggestions on how to do this. I am not an accomplished woodworker but am fairly handy.
That's a tough problem. Maybe attach to the cabinet side, screw at just the top of the door, move around until you get it right, and screw down the bottom of the hinge. Good luck!
Thank yoy
Your welcome
I also despise Phillips head and wish the same all the time hahaha 😆
We can start a revolution together!!
+1 on eliminating Philips head screws. Torx !!
Yes, torx are very nice
hi! Great video! I have a question. Can you send me a link for this self centering attachment. Or describe it. Sorry, but I’m a newbie. thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Here is a similar version on Amazon

why you didn't install it inside, hiding the hinge?
This exactly.
I'm making a similar lid like that. Is there a way to make the hinge completely invisible? and make it fold all the way backwards?
You can put the hinge in the back saw cut but you'll have to mortise out both sides the thickness of the hinge
Ok, thank you
@@stephencraig8578 I got it to look nice. Only 1/8 of the hinge shows. I mortised out one side.
I want to hear the saws, drills, and other shop noises. Not so much the music. Otherwise great video. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback. This is one of my older videos and I'm always looking to improve.
Great tutorial!! Well thought out process! But what you got against Phillip screws bro! Lol 😆
They are EVIL!! Thanks for commenting
@@LewisRenovation Henry Ford ascertained he could save about 12 hours building a car using Robertson screws (square) or about 4 hours using Phillips. He chose Phillips because Robertson was Canadian and he would not sell out his company to Henry. Always use Robertson screws - Kreg does.
I agree - all screws should be Robertson (square) - invented by a Canadian, by the way...
+1 for Robertson & Canadians
Quick easy access to many projects with Stodoys plans.
IDK
Why would a person not hide the hinge in the joint ?
No need since the bench will always be covered by a cushion unless accessing for storage
I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.
I know Woodglut has the best woodworking plans.
Wish I could give 2 thumbs up!!!
Thank you!
My husband used these plans from Stodoys plans and he is very pleased.
Great video but the music is very distracting...couldn’t finish watching
Thanks for the feedback
why the music. It does not add. On the contrary.
Personality defect probably
@@LewisRenovation Who knows. But I think the explanation about the hinge is the most important.
You installed the piano hinge wrong, in case you were wondering
Thank you for the thoughtful comment
Eliminate Philips heads, but by all means eliminate the distracting background music, please.
Thanks for the feedback
I beg to differ... It didn't distract me at all, I found it quite relaxing.
I'm not a fan of background music on "how to" videos either, but this one didn't really bother me. Good video, thanks for making it.
nice video - - terrible ominous music
Thanks for the feedback. Music is such a personal thing. I get negative comments on classical, country, house, etc...., so I just try to mix it up. Take care.
that's not how they sit, they go inside the cutout so you only see the top edge like a door hinge
That is an option also
