  • We’ve looked at Splatoon, which might need another look at soon, and The Legend of Zelda. But now, we’re going to take a look at the world of Disturbing Super Mario Analog Horror. In this video, we take a look at a series by Greenio called "SM64: CLASSIFIED", and a puzzling video by Xploshi called "Luigi Personality Quiz"

    Regarding the MKUltra comment I made, I know that the Ultra64 was the prototype name for the Nintendo 64. I wanted to make a small link between the coincidence of MKUltra's psychological themes and the psychological themes going on in SM64: Classified, and surrounding the myths & legends of Super Mario 64.
    I hope that clears things up. It doesn't seem like I got that point across very well in the video XD

      Hello, this isn’t about the MKUltra but a theory with Jim’s seizure. When we found the dead Luigi in wet dry world we got a distorted thank you at the time 6:14 to 7:01 as we can hear as the video breaks down someone (it could be Mario) pleading or screaming to what looks like a wario head and giving the evidence of 8:07 it had a psychological impact on the person operating the TV making them do the test. This is important because that same psychological something could have what happened to Jim he saw something he wasn’t supposed to (like wario) and couldn’t process it and had a seizure. I liked your original idea but this could be something else to think about

    The most unbelievable part of this whole story is how everybody involved speaks English instead of Japanese, as the game was still in development by Nintendo and would not be developed by programmers speaking English. The moment they added Jim and Bill, suspension of disbelief went out the window.

    • @acidwizzardbastard
      @acidwizzardbastard Před 9 měsíci +4

      To be fair, one can imagine this is an alternative timeline of events where the game was largely developed in the West (likely UK because of the accents), similar to how Sonic 2 (I know, Sega, not Nintendo, but whatever) was developed in America. These videos posit that the personalization AI and the Wario Apparition are real, so it's not that much of a stretch.

    • @bruxinth4660
      @bruxinth4660 Před 9 měsíci +285

      @@acidwizzardbastard I would have guessed Australia instead of UK, given proximity, but whatever. The whole distant relationship between the Aussie devs and Nintendo would have been far more believable had they been specialist developers for the AI integration into Super Mario 64 instead of the core game programmers. I mean, come on, it would have required but a little imagination to fix a plot point that sounds far too ludicrous. For one reason why, it requires the author to address the elephant in the room on why Nintendo, who hardly ever at this point in time contracted work outside Japan, suddenly decides to outsource their software development to foreigners who don’t speak their language and are thousands of miles away making project accountability a grave concern. No business does this and survives. This is something that cannot be ignored by the author and not addressing it made his story feel absurd just from a logistical point of view.

      @bruxinth4660 Před 9 měsíci

      @@flameocto42069 Suspension of disbelief is needed to make any horror story have the power to captive the viewer’s imagination. Capture the imagination of the audience and their minds will fill the blanks with ideas more terrible than any writer could conjure; therefore the true power of horror stories lies in inspiring terror to spring out of the audience’s own mind with mere suggestion. The moment you lose the suspension of disbelief or overuse horror cliches, the audience shuts out their imagination, having lost interest and hope that the story will intrigue them enough to give the story any real consideration. That’s what you don’t understand about great horror. The less that is told, and the more that is shown, the better. A great horror story is told through innuendo and through alarming, yet ambiguous warning signs that both the protagonists and the audience genuinely fail to understand at first, only to understand when it is possibly too late to save themselves. If the audience cannot put themselves in the protag’s shoes because of a ridiculous premise and cheap tricks, the story doesn’t scare anyone beyond the most simple minded. You don’t have to make it totally plausible and watertight, but you do have to make the audience say to themselves, “What if this were actually possible, given that the story isn’t too far off from the world I know?” Once they think that, you have the audience’s imagination, and then the point of the rest of the story is to show them why they better hope that the story isn’t possible in reality.

    I looked at the picture that you said was Mario in disbelief of seeing Luigi dead, and it actually is a picture of a child and as it turns into a picture of Mario, you can hear a child crying, so I think it's telling the story of a child that was in a coma being told to wake up, possibly by his family or the doctors.

    The dev teams being American in this series and in the Kirby analog series is funny, because Mario and Kirby are both so quintessentially Japanese that it makes me wonder if Nintendo is supposed to be an American company in the alternate universes these series take place in?

More people need to know about the series (yes it’s literally playable on youtube, stuffy studios is the channel that it’s on)
    It’s by the creator of the macabre experiment

    wee correction on the Ultra 64 bit, While I do like your connection between MK Ultra and ultra 64, the 64's beta/purposed name is 'Project Reality' and 'Ultra 64!'. Alot of alpha/Beta and cut content has been added to this analogue horror series and its a treat and a half including some known glitches and faffery. I also like the commercial touches since I used to have Nintendo power back in the day and got afew of those tapes of sony/sega goons just having a go at a nintendo employee. I can almost see a programmer who knows about sega's easteregg and having a jab at it as an added voice as a 'yeah our products are actually fun unlike yours hedgehog boy' before being dumped or removed. Even the conversation between the play tester dev's are pretty on par of normal dev's having to deal with remove/addition of random stuff heh. great video my man.

    Notebook Entry #43: Mario 64: Depths Beyond Perception
    The discovery of this cursed Mario 64 cartridge has thrown me into a fearful pit of despair. It all began innocently, as an innocent excavator of retro gaming treasures, stumbling upon a garage sale in a rundown neighborhood. Amongst a collection of dusty old cartridges, this one held an eerie allure that I couldn't resist. Little did I know that it would unleash a twisted nightmare, a journey into the depths beyond perception.
    The cartridge itself seemed unremarkable at first glance, covered in a thin layer of grime and faded Super Mario 64 logo. However, as I gingerly blew away the dust, I noticed the labeling was smeared, as if someone had tried to erase it. Foolish curiosity compelled me to purchase it, not knowing the darkness that I was about to welcome into my life.
    My naive excitement turned to chills as I inserted the cartridge into my trusty Nintendo 64. The start screen flashed, but something was off. The familiar jolly music had been replaced with a hauntingly discordant melody, as though each note carried a sinister intent. Ignoring the discomfort, I pressed start, ready to relive my childhood nostalgia in a sinister twist.
    The game loaded, but the once vibrant Mushroom Kingdom had transformed into a desolate wasteland. The once cheery characters became twisted shadows of themselves, their eyes hollow and mouths contorted into grotesque smiles. Bowser's Castle stood ominously, casting a foreboding shadow over the bleak landscape. Dread filled my soul, but I knew I had no choice but to continue.
    As Mario took his first step, desperation clung to each pixel. The controls were not mine to manipulate; they were possessed by an unseen force, guiding the helpless plumber down dark corridors and hidden rooms. Crushed beneath the weight of this newfound horror, I attempted to power off the console, but the screen remained a static black. I was trapped within the game itself.
    Mario's once merry bounding steps grew heavy and strained, as if the character was grappling with an unseen force beyond comprehension. The cursed cartridge propelled my avatar to places beyond the original game's scope, unveiling a labyrinthine maze of impenetrable darkness. Each dimly lit hall concealed unspeakable creatures, warped amalgamations of Koopas and Goombas, their distorted cries echoing through the empty void.
    As I journeyed deeper into this abysmal abyss, time and space twisted and contorted, following no coherent pattern. Levels from other games collided, creating a hellscape that defied both logic and physics. Familiar characters appeared, but their once friendly nature had twisted into malevolence. Peach's cries for help turned into eerie siren calls, luring me towards inevitable doom.
    The faces of my beloved childhood game stared at me with cold, dead eyes, their expressions reflecting the terror that had consumed my soul. Dread clung to every fiber of my being as Mario's movements grew more erratic, the possessed controls now defying the most basic rules. My sanity slipped away, lost in the incomprehensible terrors that unfolded before me.
    I cannot escape this nightmare, for it has consumed my reality. The abominations from the depths of Mario 64 now haunt my every waking moment, their distorted cries echoing through the recesses of my mind. I am but a vessel for their unspeakable malice, forever trapped in the depths beyond perception. Pray that you never stumble upon this cursed cartridge, for its horrors are too great to comprehend.

    I’m not sure why you included Xploshi, her content is an odd mix of humour and horror where you’re not sure whether to feel scared or laugh. I think there is some sort of plot involving a sentient robot, but other than that, it’s kind of like making fun of horror while still being horrifying.
    It’s weird how she does it, it’s almost like an art.

    the song at 58:20 is a distorted version of the song "the mind electric" by miracle musical. a song about a man's descent into madness after being subject to electroshock therapy for killing a woman. idk how this can tie into the story but MM is a great band and I'd recommend giving it a listen :D

    • @RebatDialga
      @RebatDialga Před 8 měsíci +1

      It could either be about Jim (his descent into madness after "killing" the AI by removing it from the retail game, but continuing to experiment with it on his own) or the AI Stanley itself since generating things for the game is torturing it and driving it mad

    • @Cati_Offical
      @Cati_Offical Před 5 měsíci

      Or when you listen to distortion, it sounds like the lyrics:
      "When it grows bright, the particles start to
      Marvel having made it through the night
      Never they ponder, weather electric
      Calming if you look at it right!"
      Which could represent the AI finally: "making through the night" of being ya know, trapped in a little box that can't house it right/being tortured.
      And that the title of the song "Mind Electric" is just that the Ai is an electrical mind
      Plus, spooky point cuz in the og song the first half is reversed while the other half is the actual song unreversed
