She was a wonderful actress, and incredibly beautiful too. Shame she had to hide so much of her life.
Literally darker; she played Anne Boleyn well before Jodie Turner-Smith. Oberon was a very Beautiful woman...
Factinate if you're going to use young narrators PLEASE teach them how to pronounce the text!
Drives me nuts as well. Calcoota. Charles Lockton (to name just two) aaagh 🤯
A lot of vlogs use AI voices. You would think that they would know how to perfect the AI voices
Everyone makes mistakes. I understood what he was saying. No big deal.
It's AI
Can’t get past it. I’m done
She was great in Wuthering Heights
Yes,she was.One of my favorite classics ,largely bc of Merle.
Thats my favourite movie version of Wuthering Heights.I always cry at the end.Its that moving.Terrible she had to hide her mixed race. That shouldnt have mattered.
Painful circumstances can lead to emotional insecurities. The affairs and multiple marriages didn't bring lasting happiness. Marriage requires trust and honesty.
No one should care where or how one was born. Or race.
Grew up watching Star Trek. Nichelle Nichols, standard for beauty.
They we’re different times then.
It doesn't get much more beautiful than Lt. Uhura
@@genakrein9394 I grew up then as well. Loved Uhura I still do. First interracial kiss, I was about 13 I loved it! lol The fact that she could SING i loved as well. There were MANY gorgeous women on TOSS. the costume designer Bill Theiss was a master at creating weighted draping. costumes that looked like there could fall off in a second that were actually held in place well and the actresses found comfortable to wear. The episode that spoke to my SOUL was " The Empath," that is when I KNEW what I was in that sense. Gem
My mother always resembled Merle Oberone. They where both strong and beautiful woman.
I always thought she was a terrific actress!
It's in India & then Ceylon now Sri Lanka that being of mixed parentage, was particularly in those days, enough to have you ostracised from any form of society. So ingrained was this behaviour, that it would have effected her grandmother & mother. The derogatory term used was the innocuous sounding "chi-chi". The Caste Sytem in India was tied to the religious establishment (a huge generalisation),but,in then Ceylon - now Sri Lanka - it was more akin to the European feudal system as a tool to service the 'ruling elite',it's hardly surprising she grew up & lived with such a stigmatised view of life. The behaviour of her half-brother was a cynical attempt to see if he could gain financially, looking at the various books/films " based on her life" it should be obvious that it was a very badly kept secret,my mother who had many friends in the entertainment business had the story while in India just after the war,she was Irish & very involved in the international polo world. It's so sad that such a beautiful woman, definitely one of the stars of old Hollywood had to live with the stigma of something one hopes would nowadays be celebrated.
she was an amazing actress
How could you not mention Wuthering Heights?
Both mother and grandmother were raped, as children resulting in childbirth.
“assault” is a peculiar word to use
I really enjoy this channel. So, thank you for putting terrific content together.
Love this channel and thank you for the research done for factual reporting!
Such a strong woman. RIP
Good detailed narration. Very enjoyable video! Thanks!!
She is also had an one again off again relationship with clark gable between 1936 and 38
Her family had a generational curse. 😢
Calcoota? Really?
Colonel is pronounced ker*nell. I'm sure there is a youtube video that explains why.
What I find interesting about Oberon's life, is that it is more complex than
the James Webb telescope.
Its pronounced Charles 'lawton'.
*Exactly, and inexcusable, you'd think it was AI reading it out, spelled Laughton and he pronounced it 😂ton, unbelievable.*
Calcutter is pronounced Cal-Cutt-er. As in “utter“. I never knew she was born from such a young mother…wow….odd how two of the most beautiful British actresses- Merle & Vivien Leigh would both be born in India. It’s odd how Merle was worried about her country of birth, as I’ve never heard of Vivien having the same concern.
I don't think the bot will care how it's pronounced. You are wrong!!
We do care. Thanks for sharing your feedback with us, it helps our team improve.
It's pronounced Kolcatta
Because Vivien wasn't part Indian that's why
only by a lazy Brit who can't be respectful enough to even try to say it correctly...
It's unfortunate that back then mixed background wasn't respected and probably led to the Karma of generations of rape starting of puberty and early bith. It's remarkable though how strong she was and how she made her way and success despite her background!
I always wonder- do some youtube narrators pretend to be illiterate to generate responses for the metrics, or are you truly unable to articulate the English language?
Calcoota? Jeez...
No wonder she was such a good actress - she wasn't acting. She was nuts.😢
I’m thinking her “dad” was actually the Dad of Merle. At 12 I doubt she was sexually active.
The topics on this channel are always interesting. It's a shame that the AI voice overs lack any sort of emotion and mispronounce so many words!
It doesn't always have to be scandalous. I like a well done happy story too.
Heartbreaking what some of us live - just because of who we're born to - the 'accident of birth'. My heart goes out to her, it must be exhausting to be in such fear of being found out for who you really are - as if it was bad. The sad part is that she didn't think she was enough, good enough - without a costume and a script - especially in her personal life. I am a sculptor, after an accident I'm now in a wheelchair with crippled hands. My hands might not work - but I am still an artist. She didn't think she was good enough without a perfect face and script. May she rest in peace - we know who she really was - and love her all the more for it.
Has to be the Hepburn connection..!!
Laughton, Niven and other names mispronounced. Please edit/proof with care.
Raising grandchildren as children was reasonably common. Was a way to hide illegitimacy and have the mother save face.
Doing my genealogy I found out that my great grandmother’s “parents” were her grandparents with her sister being her mum. I doubt that my great grandmother ever knew.
Same as Jack Nicholson his grandmother raised him. But his sister was his mother. He found that out from from Hollywood reporter in the 1970s.
Not "kal-KOO-tuh," it's "kal-KUh-tuh." I have never heard anyone mispronounce it like that. The narration almost sounds AI generated.
I jus watched the cowboy and the lady...she was just stunningly beautiful....I had to come learn about her... you just really never know what someone is going through 😔
Thank you this was interesting but it was narrated a little too fast. So, this complicated life became a tangled mess.
I am always interested in facts
“Adaptation,” not “adaption.”
❤
"Then, one of her siblings found a document that didn't just expose -- it could ruin [sic] her life." -- "could have ruined"; did you forget that you were talking about the past mid-sentence?
Call me a cynical, I don't believe she was in love with Alexander Korda. He was very useful ṭo her career.
How can Hollywood be so naive and stupid
It would behoove you to look up the correct pronunciation of the names of the legends that fill your videos. I wasn't alive when these people were famous, but it was still easy to recognize the errors. Again, many of the people surrounding your featured stars were enormous legends themselves. My grandma must be turning in her grave.
Like. So. Many. Stars. She. Was. Never. Happy. With. Just. Staying. In. One. Marriage. She. Was. Beautiful. And. A. Good. Actress. Yes. Clark. Was. A. Tasmanian. As. Was. Errol. Flynn.
The video is good, but it really hurts your credibility when so many names are mispronounced. You are doing historical documentaries and the names of famous people and places centuries earlier than the twentieth are even easy to find. Keep doing the deep dives. Please finish the research.
Thank you!! Isn't it infuriating?
I think the guy narrating needs someone to tell him how to pronounce the countries properly🙄
Do you dudes have ANY CLUE what a ''starlet'' is? LOLOLOL
Clue for ya... If they have a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they are NOT a starlet. They are a star.
What she had a baby? Women do.
She had no SCRUPPLES
You have to remember this was 1920's 1930s and 1940s they were very racist and stereo typing and discrimination back then. I do understand why she had to what she had to do to survive and living well. Not everyone could had done what she had done to pass herself off as white. The facts are if you wasn't lily white back then your life was going to be extremely hard facing racism and discrimination and also racist derogatory names
