Well that makes a lot more sense than the ingame explanation by a long shot. I used to just ignore the prompt to get a deck from ringo entirely once I realized I didn’t understand it

I've been playing for years and mostly ignored caravan as much as possible but no not this playthrough. I wanna matter this.
You can also put a King on the other side making him discard the caravan its a easy win game

Even having this mini-game explained to me several times I still can't wrap my head around it. Never won a single round, lol.
From what I understand, Caravan is just a simpler version of Marvel Snap, if that helps any.
3 lanes, with a side for you and your opponent. 3 "lines" for you, and 3 "lines" for your opponent. The goal to win is to get the card value on your side of the lane somewhere between 21 and 26, without going over and while being higher than your opponent. You want to win 2 out of the 3 lanes.
Another way to explain it is you're basically playing 3 games of 21 at the same time, but instead of getting to 21, you're playing to get to 26. You win Caravan when you win 2/3 of the hands.
Face cards have special abilities, Kings double the card's value (if placed on a 9, it will be 18), Queens reorder the stack (I think the cards have to be in ascending or descending value and the Queen reverses it?), and Jacks removes a card.

Can you imagine if they took the effort of creating Caravan and just finished the game?
It is a pretty fun mini-game, and it makes sense to be in New Vegas, but it was really poorly introduced. There should've been a tutorial in the menu.

The best deck to win every time is just 6's, 10's, kings, and jacks. Nothing but caravans of 26's
I swear I'm following the rules correctly, but for whatever reason I can't place any numerical cards down after my first set. For example, I tried to place a 7 of Clubs onto a 6 of Clubs. Is this a glitch, or is there something I'm missing?
Ascending
In Fallout: NV, you can have as many Kings as you want, so therefore, 8s and 10s lose a lot of value, since they can't quadruple when claimed by TWO (K) Leader/Hoarder, they only make it cheaper for the opponent to overencumber you. Sniping the win is the point, though the AI doesn't play well for it. (Q) Packers/Trackers are weird, they only really work in 52 card standard, with deck building and ludicrous 7 holes, they have only a limited offensive value, also because the above. (Joker) Raiders are emergency (J) Robbers, but come with the "chaos" of destroying any certain merchandise, or better, draining any one type of merchandise ENTIRELY off the market of current stops, when claiming the (A) Basic of that suit! And you can take as many as you want, destroy all Foods, all Guns, all Junk, or all Tech (Brotherhood "raiders") every turn, maybe only trade in two of those, and spam nuke the opponent's route plans. And close the bid on the last trade route (both companies have 3 viable trade route incomes above 20, but not both Overencumbered on the same route, that's still contested), once you have the highest income on at least two out of the 3. Strategy is more effective vs AI.
Figured it out, the game tries to make you place a card where you cannot
I came here to figure out why I can't make any plays in the game. turns out the pc version of the game is fucked if you play on M&K. literally couldn't do anything but discard my entire deck on the first turn, and I barely understood the rules so I thought it was my fault. turns out bethesda just sucks, which I really should've seen coming
2:03 why does that magical jack pop up and steal your cards? makes no sense and makes planning out a win impossible
Your opponent can play face cards too, or in this case, jacks! Once you have your first three columns filled, you can also place jacks on your opponent's side.
In this case, they already placed their three cards and decided to use their two jacks to slow me down. I understand it can be frustrating, but they are just using the same tools you have. Caravan is about adaptability, not a race to the finish line.
Give it a shot again, but just spend time trying to use the face cards to your advantage. Good luck!
@@directionalowl ya i figured that out right after my comment. I was doing 30 cards while using 10, 9 ,7. but after locking in 2 26s the opponent would "jack me" leaving my strat useless. Thanks for clarifying

It's really not too bad, the game just doesn't help you learn it at all! All 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, and King Cards with 2 queens will set you up with a perfect deck just with the cards Ringo gives you. Best of luck and enjoy the extra caps!

I unfortunately now know how to play caravan.
Gotta do what you gotta do for the achievements.
All in all it isn't as bad as i thought but it's still bad.
It isn't bad to learn, but it's not a great game even once you know it! That said, it's a nice break from killing things and doing quests.
