Starting: S:2 P:6 E:7 C:1 I:9 A:7 L:8 take Four Eyes and take Skilled 3 times (first at Mitchell’s House, then when leaving good springs, and then in Big MT’s autodoc)
With the Lucky Shades, all implants minus Charisma and HP regen, the 1st Recon Beret, Reinforced Spine, the extra SPECIAL point from Lonesome Road put into strength, the Mr. House variant of the Courier Duster, and no perk points wasted on Intense Training, you should end up with:

With this set up you can take all of the best perks, such as Tunnel Runner, the Implant GRX perk, Better Criticals, etc, you don’t need Educated or Comprehension to still hit 100 in all skills, and with Weapon Handling you meet the requirements for all energy weapons and most guns.
Really the only downside is not being able to take Strong Back or Burden to Bear, but if you do decide to pop only 2 Intense Trainings into Strength you can get those if you want, and Weapons Handling won’t be needed if you go that route.

If you want to get better caps for this early-game portion of the run, make your second trait "Good Natured." Doesn't alter your starting number of skill ranks, just reshuffles them a bit, taking five out of each combat-oriented skill and putting them in the "friendly" skills, such as barter and speech. Five extra points of barter doesn't make much difference in price per item, but you'd be amazed how quickly it adds up.

You might not need 7 Strength, if you do OWB you get an additional 1 STR for rhe duration of the DLC which you can increase to 2 once you finished it (Spineless and Reinforced Spine perks) so counting the STR implant you have 3 additional S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points to distribute elsewhere while still being able to effectively use most weapons if you lower your initial STR, the minimal i recommend with this setup is 4 base STR but i generally go for 5 for comfort
Edit: additionally, most weapons with a high STR requirement don't really hurt that badly from the accuracy penalty since they're mostly spray and pray type weapons like a Minigun or AOE explosives like Fat Man or Missile Launchers so they're fine as long as ypu point them in the enemy's general direction. Only exception i can think of is Anti-Material Rifle which can still be wielded with the minimum 4 base plus implant and Reinforced Spine

@@conqueror7777 I figured out a better version of my build, one that can take Skilled instead of Small Frame and no Intense Training needed, you have to start with 2 strength instead. This kinda forces you into energy weapons exclusively in the early game and the low carry weight sucks for a while, but you still end up with the same end stats.
See, I basically just forgot about two whole ass perks that are great: Reinforced Spine from Old World Blues, and the free SPECIAL point you get after beating Lonesome Road. When you start OWB you get the Spineless perk that gives you +1 strength, and with Weapon Handling you have the requirements for the YCS-186, take Rapid Reload before that and the DLC shouldn’t even be a problem at level 16, take your spine back at the end and you get a +2 increase instead. Get the implant with all of the caps you got from Big Mt and you’re back up to 5 strength. You could honestly go right into LR from there, although get faction reps in order before you do so you get the Duster you want.
Speaking of which, If you decide to go with the Yesman Duster, start with 7 Luck instead, put the spare point into anything, use Naughty Nightwear for early game gambling. You can’t do this with any of the other Courier Duster variants, at least I don’t, I need 8 naturally Agility for Tunnel Runner, 6 natural Strength for Burden to Bear, and 8 natural Endurance for the GRX Implant perks. I prefer Mr. House’s for the agility buff reload speed increase, the YCS-186 is great but reloading after every shot sucks, and I also like to occasionally switch off to Ulysses’ Duster for the 5% crit chance increase in “oh fuck” situations and they look identical.

    2. There's always a Stealth Boy in the easy safe in the Goodsprings School. If you need a boost to get to 25 lockpick, just get the magazine from Sunny and wear the hat you can loot from Doc's house. If you're still short, make a new game and take Good Natured then get rid of it when leaving Goodsprings. You can also open it with 25 Science using the easy terminal next to it. If you don't want to save scum for the Stealth Boy in Victor's Shack, get this one instead.
    3. At first, tag Repair and Science so you can repair the 9mm Machine Gun and use the Chemistry Kit in Doc's house (make the chems because they sell for more than stims), then untag them when leaving Goodsprings. Will get you a few extra caps. (I'd still tag Repair because it's OP and Light Touch is the best level 2 perk and requires 45 Repair.)
    4. Fast Shot is actually a really good trait. A lot of weapons (notably Energy Weapons) have such low spread that the downside isn't that noticable and the increased firing speed more than makes up for it. I wouldn't take it over Built to Destroy, but I'd consider it a viable trait. I'd even use the Auto Doc in the late game (level 40) to get rid of Skilled and replace it with Fast Shot so you still have levels to max out your skills (only applies if you have YUP or UPP; if you are playing Vanilla and the Skilled exploit isn't patched you could even wait until level 50 as you won't lose skill points when getting rid of Skilled).

Quick tip when leaving goodsprings make sure to accept the rebuild charecter prompt as theres a glitch that when taking skilled as a trait for the second time it will stack with the first time while not further decreasing your exp gains this means you'll have 130 skill points from that 2 times alone.
P.s this can be done again in the big empty for another 65 skill points but as some skills will probably be at 100 at this point it's better to just take something like built to destroy or the like plus when you take skilled for the third time it makes it redicolusly easy to get 100 all around.

I always go with 9 in Endurance, Intelligence and Luck. Then divide the rest of the special points between strength, perception and agility. I always make charisma 1 and always use that one extra point for strength. So the stats would be
    5, 4, 9, 1, 9, 4, 9
Then I take the quick way to vegas and buy a naughty nightwear from mike and Ralph's, play blackjack at the atomic wrangler then get a Intelligence implant. I do this will make sure I don't level up until I get the implant so I benefit from 10 Intelligence. I make sure to grab educated and compression then finally play the game for real and collect skill books.
If you stop investing skill points in skills once they reach 80 then the skill books can care you to 100.
I find that by level 30 I maxed out almost every skill to 100 and if I'm more diligent on the skill books probably max out everything before reaching level 40.
You can also use this method to max out most of your special stats. All you need is to use intense training and if you want high charisma then use chems and outfits.
Also, if anyone is wonder. This method requires all the big dlcs because they increase the level cap and add more skill books to the game to collect.

There is a little something to add to this. If you want more caps you can spend a little at Mick and Ralph's to buy the naughty nightwear which will raise your luck one more point. Wear that while gambling and it will be easier but that's not what will make you extra money. When you are just shy of the jackpot limit switch from blackjack to roulette. If you have ten luck you can put everything on a 32:1 bet. You will lose multiple times and when you drop more than a thousand below the limit, go back to blackjack to get that back up. But when you hit at roulette you will walk away with double or close to double what you would have with just blackjack.

Overall good video, well explained and well articulated, but I have to disagree on a few points:
#1 is the choice of "viable" traits. If I had to choose, I would say Built to Destroy, Trigger Discipline, Fast Shot, and Skilled are all extremely good depending on what build you. Not a fan of Small Frame because you will get crippled much more frequently which can get you killed later in the game. The extra limb damage for +1 AGI is not a good tradeoff IMO
#2 is educated and comprehension. Neither of these perks are necessary and they are both a waste if you know what you are doing. I hardly ever use magazines in any of my playthroughs.
#3 is the route to New Vegas. If you take the path up towards Black Mountain and head up past where the boulder is, you can completely avoid all of the deathclaws and mutants, and you can get a set of NCR armor to disguise yourself and take the metro at camp McCarren completely circumventing the need for caps.
If you really want lots of caps, collect Fiend bounties, then play slots. Much faster than poker even at low luck. Anyway, Great vid. Respect for not using the skilled exploit at the beginning.

Eh slots is time consuming and not as effective as you’d think. The best idea for slots is to get to around 1k of the limit of the casino and then hope to get fruit from the fruitstand as then you will achieve all Casino bonuses as well as upwards of 3000 extra caps.

Thank you for watching the video and for your comment, I appreciate the constructive feedback! Regarding traits, I find Fast Shot and Trigger Discipline to be pretty bad. Fast Shot doesn't affect automatic weapons at all, which is probably what most people have in mind when they pick that trait. This means you only benefit if you're using semi-automatic weapons, so Fast Shot would be a big hinderance in accuracy where you need it most. Trigger Discipline does affect automatic weapons, which I think makes it even worse than Fast Shot. I don't want my automatic weapons to fire 20% slower in exchange for some extra accuracy.
Small Frame does cause you to take 25% more limb damage, but mid/late game you have so many stimpaks and doctor's bags that it becomes a non issue and is basically a free +1 AGI.
Regarding Educated, I agree that it's not necessary. You're also right that Comprehension is not necessary, but if you choose to not take Comprehension then you have to save/load the workbench crates in Honest Hearts to make up for the skill points you're missing out on. This can take thousands of attempts if you're unlucky, and I assumed most people didn't have the patience for this, including myself.
The path to New Vegas I showed in the video also avoids all deathclaws and mutants. The path you suggested is equally as good. Using the metro to sneak into the Strip is nice, but you're gonna have to unlock the main gate at some point in the game anyways. Might as well do it now while we have caps. They don't actually take 2000 caps from you, they just check to make sure you have more than 2000, so it doesn't cost us anything.

With Small Frame ... once you have repair to 55, go to the top of the hill by Goodsprings Source (Barton Thorn's girlfriend). Damage your limbs with the Bear Trap, reset it with repair 55, heal on mattress, repeat 50 times (if hardcore, use hydra, doctor bags, weapon binding ritual, daturana, or healing poultice so you don't have to go to an owned bed or a doctor between each damage). This is the Tough Guy challenge that reduces limb damage by 20%, basically negating Small Frame. Also, Adamantium Skeleton, Toughness, Hit the Deck, and Tribal Wisdom (Honest Hearts) are good to reduce/negate limbs damage.
There are very few ways to increase SPECIAL, so giving +1 Agility is pretty big.
By taking Small Frame, you have an extra point that would have been used in Agility, that can now be used for any other SPECIAL. Agility increases guns skill & sneak skill, draw & holster speed, reload speed, and increases action points available for VATS. Also, it's required to be 5 6 7 or 8 for many of the best perks.

While the theory-crafting might be solid, I think this guide misses out on the fact that if you intently do most major quests in the game without intentionally level grinding, you'll finish almost the entire game by level 30-35 at most, and knowing that, the skilled's -10% XP penalty becomes quite noticable and how a character without the trait could have more perks and higher HP from levels instead.
Not to mention that there's not much use in having high levels without the content to challenge.
Also skilled+good natured with high cha/int lets you have the highest starting skill in the game, about 57 on those skills if tagged I think? And small frame's downside is very noticable on Hardcore where limbs are only healable by bags/hydra, not to mention the use of those skill checks at early game whereas combat can be compensated through the use of either companions or cheesy gameplay mechanics.

If you don't care about going straight into the lucky 38 right away then there's another snowglobe. combined with the graveyard globe that's 8k without selling a dime. Plus, going to camp McCarren for the monorail will net some gear from the fiends, so couple hundred caps.
There's a bunch of ways to get loads of money even without exploits. Like tsun said, the bounties are excellent. Combining the 8k, the gear, bounties and breaking every casino that's well over the required amount.

The reason why I don't use the snowglobes early on is because that requires you to enter the Lucky 38 and talk to Mr. House, which at level 1 means you can't negotiate for more caps for the Platinum Chip because of low barter. You also trigger a reputation reset with the NCR when you first leave the Lucky 38 and the soldier comes up to talk to you, which I choose to save until after I nuke them during Lonesome Road. This way you have no negative reputation with the NCR. There are also more suits of black combat armor in the game, so I don't care to sell them, and you can also get even better armor early game like Combat Armor Reinforced from gambling at Gomorrah. In fact this is my baptism of fire in Fallout: New Vegas, because I have never played it diligently until fifteen days ago. P.S.: Would you allocate to Endurance the extra point you get at the end of Lonesome Road? Because in this way you would be able to obtain all the implants (although the one for Charisma and the “PHOENIX” Monocyte Breeder aren't essential). Alternatively, you could allocate that point to Luck, raising it to 10, in order to gain a 10% Critical Hits Chance, once you have obtained the related implant. Therefore, if you wear Boone's 1st Recon Beret and if you trade Wild Wasteland (once you have unlocked all the special encounters in the base game and in the DLCs) for Built To Destroy using the Sink’s Auto-Doc in Big Mountain, your Critical Hits Chance will reach a great 18%, and if you have chosen Finesse, you will reach even a terrifying 23% 😎.

Thats still an exploit. Between the magazine spawn savescumming and the perk exploit, there's almost 0 difference outside how long it might take to get your desired result. Saying this is a feature is like saying its a feature to kill shop keepers in skyrim and reload to change what items are selling. They are both exploits, one just has an easy fix, and therefor was fixed. If there was a way to code the game so EVERY item in the random loot pool was fixed into a solid state as soon as you start a game, they would probably implement it given this is an exploit thats been around in the creation engine for ages. Why would savescumming be an exploit? An exploit is an unintended mechanic, stacking the same trait when resetting your build isn't intended.

    • @treesuschrist1782

@@Yunoxz if it's an intended mechanic then why doesn't the loot reroll every time you load into an area? By that same logic everything that can be exploited but savescumming is ALSO a mechanic. So savescumming to get a critical hit in every situation>mechanic. Savescumming to pass any chance encounter>mechanic. Savescumming to get specific random encounters> mechanic. No, it's not a mechanic. It's an exploit. It's a way to work around the games actual mechanics to get a specific outcome you desire. By this same logic, again, killing every merchant in Skyrim to reload their inventory is a mechanic. Forgive me, but I don't buy it. I have a hard time seeing how good ol Todd was totally planning for people to spend 60 minutes killing the same npc over and over so they got the firesalts they wanted. An ACTUAL example of a mechanic and not an exploit is how oblivion merchants restocked every 3 days. You could easily wait the 3 days in game, and check to see what they had. And that goes for many other mechanics within Bethesda games. They have repeatedly shown that they have pre built in mechanics to help with certain issues that do NOT involve savescumming. Respawning loot and enemies in dungeons in oblivion is another great example. In that situation, you either: put in the effort to get the items the legitimate way, or you savescum. Of course the 2nd saves an immense amount of time, but this isn't about time it's about "doing it without cheating". Savescumming is an exploit. Nothing more. There is nothing to show that this is an intended mechanic put in by developers. The fact that he only uses savescumming to get around obstacles put in by developers just goes to show that. The game says "don't go this way", player goes that way, player will die going said way if not for one specific item, player savescums to get extremely specific item. "but it's a mechanic". Sure.

lol, so if you die and have to redo a part, open the chest again and now you have more loot than last time what do you do? Quit the run?! Clown.
In what universe is Save Scrumming(Which is basically RNG) and glitching the same skill 3 times over the same thing? 1 stealth boy = 15 to all skills to you?

@@nebulous798 lmao no genius, that’s not save scumming lmfao that’s just dying and reloading a save. very different from saving right before you load a cell and then reloading again and again until the loot you want spawns. lmfaooo

@Jared C. but what if he got the loot in his first try? What then? Did that occurrence illegitimize his run? We disregard the fact that the Stealth Boy is useless, since you just ride the right mountain side and the garbage pathing AI can't get you, but that is besides the point.
The point is the devs designed the game around the possibility of you 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐞 and getting the best loot, but its not designed to deal with you getting 3 times the stats, with no extra downside, mind you.
They are in no way, shape, or form anything remotely similar, as you tried to imply in op.
Hey, I get it, I also almost never save scum in my games, especially if I'm doing a blind playthrough, the difference is I don't pretend that thats the only 'legitimate' way to play a game.

@@nebulous798 no, it wouldn’t. I don’t see your logic. I’m not even against save scumming it’s just that his logic also makes no sense because he’s doing exploits (or planning on it if the first load of victor’s shack doesn’t give him the stealth boy) for crucial parts of his run but then claiming other comparatively minor exploits are illegitimate (the bonuses from taking skilled twice aren’t, as he says himself, remotely necessary to achieve max skills similarly to how exploiting for the stealth boy, as you said, is also unnecessary) i was just pointing out this fallacy in his judgement

something worth noting: you can snag a second stealth boy without killing Joe Cobb if you raid the safe in the goodsprings school house. might be worth having as a backup, just in case.

  • @RedSaint83
    @RedSaint83 Před rokem

Funny that you chose to go left and use a stealth boy and walk past the deathclaws, when going right, hugging the wall, you can easily avoid the super mutants. There's the rock trap of course, but you can easily avoid it hugging the wall in a little indent along the way.
Also, I believe I read that the game will save the half skill point for next level if you have an uneven intelligence, so like if you have 5 like in this case, you save up half a point so you get 12 points first level up and then 13 on next level up, then 12 on next level up 13 on next and so on and so forth. Assuming you kept the same INT lvl.
I was a bit disappointed that temporary int boosts don't work when levelling up as coffee early on would be so imbalanced with its +3 int lol, but that makes sense.

  • @Slender_Man_186
    @Slender_Man_186 Před rokem +1

I have a really good build that uses energy weapons, high crit chance and damage, and light armor, and it works something like this:
    S:2 (don’t worry, we’ll fix this)
P:6 (lowered to 5 from Four Eyes)
    E:7 (no Charisma Implant)
    C:1 (useless)
I:9 (I hate hunting for skill books)
    A:7 (action points and perks)
    L:8 (gambling go brrrrt)
So, Strength, with the Reinforced Spine perk from OWB, the implant, and the extra point granted by completing Lonesome Road, you end up with a strength of 6, with Weapons Handling that’s perfectly fine for most guns and energy weapons, and it’s enough to get Burden to Bear for carry weight
Perception ends up being 10 with the implant, Lucky Shades, and 1st Recon Beret, naturally your perception is actually 6 which is enough for the Better Criticals and Sniper perks.
Endurance ends up at 8 with the implant, which is enough to get the GRX Turbo perk.
    Charisma is still 1 lol.
Intelligence ends up at 10 solely due to the implant, again, I hate looking at a wiki to hunt for stuff, I just wanna play the damn game.
Agility ends up at 8 with the implant which is enough for Tunnel Runner and allows for faster reloading of the YCS-186 Gauss Rifle
Luck ends up at 10 with the implant and Shades, if you plan on getting the Yesman version of the Courier Duster then make your Luck 7 instead and use the Nightwear when gambling early game.

I went with a high enough intelligence score to max my skills out on my first play. This is on console so no sort of unofficial patch or anything. I got to the screen showing a level-up with 100 in every skill, and it wouldn't allow me to continue until I'd spent the points. Broke my game. Since then I always try not to do this. Just can't be sure it won't bug out like that. I like the struggle anyway, though. I never take skill boosting traits and always go with a 1 in endurance.
