  • Joker Jailbreak is a single player, solitair-like card game in which you have to break a joker out of jail.
Find the rules written out here: roofkat.itch.io/joker-jailbreak
I have a lot of "ehm"'s and half finished sentences in here, (and I'm apparently colourblind at 06:08) but I hope it's still understandable and interesting enough to watch :)
And follow @roofkatgames on twitter for... whatever comes next!
Most likely WarpThrough though, that's the videogame I'm working on.

I tried it as a 2 player game too by making it into a 3x4 grid with 2 jokers side by side in the middle. 3 cards on each corner and 6 cards for each center wall (2 walls on top/bottom, 1 wall on left/right). Each player gets 2 spare cards for wen they get stuck. U hav to try to get ur joker out on ur side b4 the other player. It requires a bit more strategy bc u can remove wall cards from any wall, but ur trying to just remove from ur side, or corners so that ur not helping ur opponent.
Wen u get stuck, u draw 1 of ur 2 spare cards and can use it right away if u can. If u can't use it, u lay it on ur joker and it's the next person's turn. Ofc the next person would hav to do the same bc there wouldn't be a move for them either. They hav the option to use the card on the opponent's joker, or try to leave it so that the opponent has to try to get rid of it on their own in order to break out. If no moves can be made after using both spare cards by each player, no one wins.

honestly, this became my favorite single player card game ever! makes you think, yet it's simple to play and has a pretty solid win-loss ratio for a card game. U should call the game "Asylum" with the premise of breaking the joker out of the asylum. just a thought! Kudos man!

I watched this and it was amazing! Here are some variations I found. 1) Tower Collapse: each time a corner breaks, add a card to the two corresponding walls beneath it from the cards you have already cleared (shuffle the deck before this). 2) Heightened Security: Each time you cannot play within the existing setup, place a card on top of all of the piles instead of being in the joker. If each pile can’t be filled, start with the walls before the corners. This comes from Spider Solitaire, and it adds to the card management. 3) Riot: Each time you clear a set with 20 (can change this) value of each red and black, remove one wall for free. Every 5 after this also removed and additional wall section (25 is 2, 30 is 3, 35 is 4, 40 is 5). This means for a 7-card clear you need 50 value each color, which is only possible when all four kings and queens are on the board at the same time, meaning it doesn’t break the game. Let me know what you think of these! I haven’t really tried them out yet, but in theory it seems interesting.

As this game gecame one of my goto boredom games, I thought to actually try your variants and after some testing cam to this conclusion:
      1) Tower collapse: balances the game a little bit more as it is even more important now to keep the corners standing, but not to much punishment if not
      2) Heightend security: I found it is far more interesting to 1. take the cards from the spare ones, as then they get actually used a lot more often and also makes you loose after at most 3 stuck states. 2. only place the cards on the walls as that does not replenish the now even more important corners. It previously actually made the game easier, as you basically reset the game a card back but with a higher corner/wall ratio, which is not the purpose of that variation.
      3) Riot: worked nice, as it made the high combos better even if it eats up more corners. But to easy actually, works better with 8 or 9 thick walls

  • @damnrefrigerator107
    @damnrefrigerator107 Před rokem +4

honestly a fun game, i also thought of a different mode of this game, idk what to call it yet, but basically u need both jokers, the colored joker is the joker u would help escape and the black joker is shuffled to the deck, instead of 6 cards for the walls its 8 and instead of 3 in corners its 4, now if u encounter the black joker while trying to break the walls, wherever that black joker is found it is stuck there meaning that wall Cannot be broken, if u find the black joker in the extra 3 lives cards, then this joker will be a wild card or can be used in any cards, so in this mode the best thing u want to happen is the black joker being in the corners or in the extra lives cards

I've been playing this a lot recently, like dozens and dozens of times. I've added some House rules and I thought I would share. 1. I don't stop when a wall has been broken down. Instead, I win the game when the draw-pile is emptied as well as when at least one wall is gone. You determine to what degree you won by counting the cards that are left (just the literal card, not their numerical value). Sometimes it is 11 or 4 cards left, but I have gotten it down to 2 and even 1 before (minus the joker, of course). 2. Sometimes there are just too many of one color; therefore, I added a rule that you could collect all of one suit. So, a K (13) of diamonds and a 6 + 7 (=13) of diamonds make a pair. 6 cards for the wall and 2 for the corners is really ideal, the 7-1 can lead to a bust and doesn't flow as well. I have played with a double deck, which is also fun, then I did 10 cards for the walls and 4 for the corners. When you do double decks, you really must have the 2nd rule where you can pull all of one suit or it will be too irritating. Last but not least, he is right that the absolute best tragedy is to really attack those walls and use as many cards to make a pair as possible (so instead of two Ks, make it 6+7 and 5+4+4 as a pair). Hope you enjoy. This is my new favorite game, it really is.

That's an interesting addition, I left out the other jokers from the deck, but having another way to break walls when in a bind is pretty nice. Should probably remove it from the deck before you lay out the walls and shuffle it back in after they've been created, so you don't suddenly encounter a joker when breaking walls.

I tried it and experimented with it a little and found a 2 player competitive way
For this divide your 54 card deck between 2 players with each getting 27
Make the walls 4 cards thick and the corner 2 cards
The rest 3 cards are your supplement cards if you need them
Each player builds this setup and then both start at the same time
No card exchange or trading of supplement cards(optional)is to be allowed to make the game free from ties
The first one to break his asylum wins

A cool way to add a competitive edge to the game would be to have a 'high score' potential. This would work on (1) How many wall levels you have AND (2) how many corner levels. So someone could brag about having broken the joker out of jail on a Level 8/1 (i.e. an 8 card stack for the walls, and only 1 card stack for the corners)

i believe i may have an idea for the second joker. Whether it's a good idea or not, is another matter. Anyways, here's my idea:
If you get a joker on one of the walls (or corners) it breaks the wall that it is on down, leaving only the joker that is there there. (If the joker was from one of the corner, however, it can be placed on any of the walls.) the other cards that were on that wall are added to the used deck (the one that's facing up) and that deck is then shuffled. If there weren't any card left in that wall, and the joker is the last one, The used deck is still shuffled.
After it is shuffled, three cards are then picked up from it. These three cards are then added together to make the value of the joker (so, for example: Jack + 3 + 8 = 22) and the colour of the joker is determined by the colour of the cards. So if the majority (at least two) of the cards were black, the joker is black. so, if the cards were black 5 + red ace + red 8, the joker would be a red card worth 14.
Also, you might want to put these three cards aside, so that you can refer back to them if your forget what the joker is worth.
Every certain amount of moves (i haven't figured out how much yet), a card from the unused deck is added on top of the joker until eventually the wall get's back up to 7, not including the joker, Once it get's back to this point that the wall started at, the joker is put aside.
now the joker can be used once every certain amount of moves, again i haven't figured out how many. but it can only be used once at a time (so, you can't use it if it's already on a wall)
Hopefully this comment wasn't TOO long and this doesn't make it TOO complex.

I set up everything exactly how you do except I put the other joker under the joker. That card I use as an illusion, so if you manage to get rid of all of the cards in one of the four corners then you can use the illusion. You use the illusion by putting it in one of the four corners that you already got rid of all the cards (or guards as I like to call them) in. When you use the illusion one of the cards above, below, or to the side of the illusion will try to “capture” it (you decide which guard goes after it, it just has to be one of the guards next to the illusion) , in other words move from the space they are in into one of the four corners where you put the joker, except if it is the last card then the guard cannot leave his post. The guard who left his post kills the illusion and stays in one of the four corners, to be used again (for trying to pair other cards of the opposite color). This allows you to have a back up plan just in case there are no more cards that you can pair, it also gives the four corners a purpose. I hope you y’all like my addition on the game.

A way to make this more difficult is too have two jokers and when one escapes place 1 card on every pile

Hey, so I tried something. When I clear a corner I add a card off the pile. It makes the game a bit faster and also adds an element of not being able to put a card on the joker if you run out.

Great stuff, man! I'll be getting some games of this in, and I'll respond with suggestions if I have any. The mechanics are solid, from what I can see. Cheers!

Fun game, good job! I have the theory11 Avenger’s playing cards deck, so my joker artwork is Loki while the face cards are different Avengers characters. So because I am a total nerd, I call my game Loki’s escape, and it looks like the Avengers are trying to stop him from doing so. 😝

I came up with a variation called Royal Guards. Take 2 kings, 2 queens, and 2 jacks. For each of those 1 red 1 black. Shuffle up those and put them on top of the joker, and you can’t move the joker until the guards are all gone. Also I play it with the jack being 11, queen as 13, and king as 15.

I just found this and implemented the 2nd joker so 2 total in the center and when you break one wall a joker will fill in the spot to block it from the 2nd joker to escape, i call it "the screw over" makes the game more challenging and it works out with cards at the end still. Once you brake a 2nd wall the 2nd joker will be free and you win.

I like this! I was just thinking about how to incorporate a second joker while I was playing. I wonder if there's a way to introduce risk of the first joker getting sent back to his cell. Kinda like that old wives tale of crabs dragging each other down in the pot. That could add a little extra spice to this idea.
