Replacing a headlight can be frustrating, here at ECS Tuning we try to take away all the frustration and provide you with the proper techniques on how to replace your headlight.
This video shows step by step on how to remove and install a new headlight on your VW MKV GTI.
This tutorial is provided as a courtesy by ECS Tuning.

You will need (1) of each, T20 T25 & T27 Hex Bit in order to complete this task. Thank you for the video it was very helpful! Uninstall and reinstall time took roughly one hour per side.
Used this video to change my xenon bulb in my golf mk5 2008 mod. This was only necessary to do because the lock-ring which holds the bulb in place in it's socket was defect. This caused me not being able to turn the lock ring properly to unlock it, so I had to take out the whole headlamp to see what was wrong.. the other lamp was perfect and took me 3 minutes to carefully change the bulb :D Thank you for the video, it helped a lot and saved me time :) If you don't have to do this you simply take off the cover, then the ignitor, then lockring with the bulb (careful! the bulb itself is not attached to the ring and can fall out if you are not holding it ) Thx from Norway where the winter is dark as hell :D

Easy to follow, found another video that was for a GT and hadn't realised GTi bumpers were different meaning the other video wasn't viable 👍
I used this video to remove my headlight and it worked great. I have two comments: On my 2007 VW MKV GTI, there was an extra screw that had to be removed from the wheel well, in between the two screws that were shown in this video. Secondly, removing the wiring harness entailed squeezing two clips - one at the top of the harness and one at the bottom. Upon squeezing them, you'd hear a little click, which meant the clips let go of what they were holding on to. Then the harness could be removed.
Hey there! I’m currently stuck on trying to remove the wiring connector. I see what you mean by the top and bottom clip but can’t seem to remove it. Do you have any techniques or suggestion.

Such a huge help, thank you. The vertical screw that holds the bumper end on won't go in but I'll have another go at that later. Had to go elsewhere for instructions on removing the cable connector from the back of the headlight! Awful design!
I tried doing this before watching the video and completely missed 4 screws. This video was great.
A couple questions:
1. How do you level the headlights?
2. Is there any Vag-Com work needed after the install?

On my 2007 VW MKV GTI, the harness had two clips, one at the top and one at the bottom. The clips had to be pressed in or squeezed. Upon doing so, you would hear a little click, which meant the clips had let go of a little tab in the interior that they were holding on to. Even after that, it was a little tough removing the harness. I used a flathead screwdriver to lever it out - its a tight fit.
I would kill for my gti to be this clean again 🥲🥲🥲

What a PITFA. Did 6000 k replacements yesterday. ALMOST had to take the darn drivers side housing out.
Man, talk about an unnecessarily roundabout way of doing things. I had to replace one of my Jetta's headlights and it was insane. My old Civic and S60 weren't this bad!

Great video, but I cannot unplug the headlight. And the plastic on the clips isn't very sturdy, so the tips broke. Will it be possible to unplug it now? It will not budge.
Same here, any ideas? I would love a tutorial on disconnecting the various pain in the finger electrical connections.

I lined everything in place, locked the ring that holds the bulb, but cant right turn click the red square thingy. And I know its aligned with the holes. Or maybe its not. :( The light works though. O.o
Yeah, I saw a post in here that stated why would you convert HID to Halogen? From the video it looked like you just plugged and played new Halogen lights in? I didn't think you could do this in an HID without modifying the pins in the electrical harness? If you can please point me to the product at your website as I am tired of HID lights and would rather have 9006 than H7. How could this be done?

I would like to do the opposite. Replace the stock halogen headlights with the bi-xenons.

@ECSTuningMedia thanks but i had to take a few more bolts loose on the bottom of the bumper to get room to undo to lower screw on the headlight. Another question would you all happen to know why my light beam on the drivers side is all out of wack and the passengers side is a perfect line on the garage door?

Why to different headlights
First the xenon then the normal ones?
My passenger side headlight wobbles like crazy because the top tab is broken (the one you unscrew @ 2:11 (step 6) - will your repair kit fix that tab? (it's the part you can clearly see at 3:34 (closest to your left thumb - the little back piece when he is pulling the headlight out).
whats that part that you screw on to the radiator support and than be able to screw the headlight
Hi ppl I bought a pair of head light for my gti 08 but I dnt know if they will work cuz the new headlights have couple pins on the back of the new headlights an the one I have are the stock ones with the chip on the bottom of the headlights but I dnt know if it will work

bad devotions unfortunately i bought the xenon headlights for my car and i dont think it is possible to install due to the different harnesses for the different units..if uve found a way to install please let me know🙏
@@christophercomella5303 there are adapters you should use when installing the oem vw xenons on a halogen mk5. but i don't know were you are from because here in the netherlands you can buy aftermarket xenon headlight units that look a 100% like the oem ones and are specially made for the mk5's with halogen lights. the connectors are the same, Oem xenons have diffirent connectors.

Hey so I’m hopping someone could help me or lead me the right way. So I installed new headlights with the HID bulbs and everything, I watch all the tutorials to make sure I installed everything right. Well I did but for some reason the HID will not turn off, key off switch off locked car and the lights will not go off...
Does this procedure work for the drivers side as well?

Is this process adaptable to a 2006 VW Rabbit? I do not have the same grill cover (obviously), so I am not seeing the screws to remove on the bottom side of the grill plate for step 2 in your tutorial.

@ECSTuningMedia well i guess the verdict is something is wrong with the projector in the headlight sucks, unless you all would happen to sell a kit that would fix it or a new headlight housing with the projector parts in it.

No, because it's a badly designed rolling box of plastic. And I'm not just talking about VWs, all cars are overpriced pieces of sh*t. I couldn't finish this today, because one of the screws has a stripped head and it doesn't look like the previous owner would've stripped it, it's just made of sh*t.

Why did you do all that removal of the front shit when you can just remove the plastic cover in the back of the headlight just undo and replace the headlight that way...?
It doesn't work that way with this variant, and unfortunately mine too, because the headlight washer is in the way.
Dude it takes 3 minutes to replace a bulb on a mk5 without removing anything except a air box...

You have to do all that to replace a lightbulb, really that is one of the reasons vw are consider garbage.
This is to replace the entire headlight. Not the headlight bulb. Replacing the bulb is just a matter of unscrewing a cover and replacing the bulb
why would you downgrade hid projectors to halogen reflectors you do realize that hid bulbs with no projectors are ILLEGAL and blind other drivers all gti's come with projectors those headlights are probably from a regualar golf u should check it out
