I had my hysterectomy done with DaVinci, no side effects other than the usual gas post-op. Went home the next day just because they took endometrial tissue off part of the intestines and wanted to monitor it. No vaginal bleeding or spotting. I’m very grateful for DaVinci.

I had my kidney removed by robots. I like to think of them standing around like R2D2 - but the Davinci machine is cool, too. I was also worried about them being in there when SkyNet takes over and I suddenly am cut into a thousand pieces ... you may be too young for the Sky Net reference. :) Anyway, what surprised me is that at the end they make a larger incision (around 4 inches) so they can put the kidney in a plastic bag and pull it out through the larger hole. I kinda thought they were going to cut it up and suction it out. So all that to say this, if you have a pain in your mid back/side area - don't ignore it, even if it doesn't present like kidney pain just go get it checked out. I didn't and I lost my kidney, I had a 11mm stone in there (ended up being a big collection of small stones) that blocked off the kidney for so long it died. Anyway, don't mess around with side pain. (still have the side pain, it wasn't the kidney causing it) (still haven't gotten it checked out) (I may be a moron)

I had robot-assisted right colectomy 3 weeks ago. The evening of the surgery, I was up walking. The next day, I came home. Huge difference in pain, infection risk, trauma to surrounding tissues and recovery time when compared to the open and Lap surgeries I worked/assisted as a surg-tech. Hats off to the incredible skills of these surgeons, specifically my surgeon, and the amazing capabilities of the da Vinci system.

Fun fact, company I work for makes parts for the da vinci. We make the little tips that are peeling the grape.
I have to say, using the DaVinci for a "practice round" was definitely one of my core memories 😊 It is not as easy as it seems, it takes a good few rounds to get the arms to move smoothly, and then lots of practice to actually get it right

I think I'm getting now why my dad wants me to be a doctor
Just found this video. Earlier this year (2021) I had a medical issue where I ended up with a colostomy bag. It was able to be reversed in August and they used the Da Vinci robot for the surgery. All I had was 4 small incisions that they sealed with surgical glue. Pretty amazing piece of technology!
You got lucky Cameron. I had Hartmans procedure for Diverticulitis and perforated colon and was given a colostomy. Five months later I had reversal surgery using the Da Vinci robot, but when I woke up I had a ileostomy. Dr said they had trouble reconnecting the colon, so they did an ileostomy to give it time to heal. Unfortunately Over the next 3 months I became extremely ill, and tests revealed that my Pancreases and Peritoneum were lacerated. After multiple ERCP, EUS, and Paracentesis procedures, I was back in OR for my second full open surgery that took 10 hrs, two of them was to have a Boari Flap done due to a lacerated ureter. I still to this day have my ileostomy, and I’ll have it the rest of my life.

Question for @Doctor Mike , has there ever been a case where a surgeon performing a surgery suffers a heart attack or stroke or something.. during the operation he’s performing? If not, what precautions are taken to prevent such an occurrence? Yes, this is where my brain goes to at 1 in the morning 😂
I don’t think there are any precautions it’s just they would be better at determining the signs and there is always a back up surgeon to gage over in case they get too tired or suffer an injury

My local hospital had a couple of those surgery robots you could try "driving". I got to try it. Took a second to get the idea of it, but once you did, it made a lot of sense. You kind of have to think in multiple planes, which is the hardest part.

I was the 50th patient my OB/GYN used the Da Vinci Robot for a Hysterectomy(2009). It was the EASIEST surgical recovery I’ve ever had.

My elder bro is gynecologist just bfr a year he had learnt robotic surgery. Its sooo precise and no micro shake.
I went to a science convention once, and I actually met one of the people who worked on coding the Davinci robot.
Robotic surgery has saved my fathers live, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer during a biopsy due to family history. He had a fantastic surgeion in Hamilton Canada to do his surgery with the Da Vinci robotic surgery that is supposed to be more accurate, 3 years and no more caner . his surgeon enyoyed his surgery and called it a standard book case, so grateful to him

I got super lucky and when I was in cub scouts one of the adults that helped out actually worked at DaVinci surgical systems. We actually got to test and use one of the robots and it was amazing.

My mother has used one of these machines before. She was one of the best students during like a residency or something (I don't know the specifics but it was when she was a student) to learn about the machine and there was a doctor that couldn't make it for the surgery so she had to step in. She was well trusted for the job because she was a top student and had medical experience in China and Japan for many many years. The surgery went well and the patient (I think) healed perfectly fine. She told me this story many years ago and I think about her every time I see a robotic surgery machine.

A doctor reacting to micheal reeves is one of the things i didnt know i needed
I got to use a da Vinci robot in a medical conference that I attended with a family member when I was only 12. It was a really amazing experience. I think that if you gave specific children supervised use of it, it would be a wonderful opportunity to get our younger generation interested in medical and surgical practices

Oh missing my previous OR job with DaVinci so badly now! I think the best thing with robotic surgery is the 3D vision that the surgeon and the whole team has of the procedure area. It is a big game changer to have high quality depth vision when doing precise cutting near large blood vessels and arteries. And doing sutures with the help of the robotic arms is just easy in small cavities such as tight pelvic area.
I had my gallbladder removed in 2012 and it was a robotic surgery. I have 3 small scars from it that I can see, about the size of a ballpoint pen. I don't know if this machine was used but I was able to leave the hospital the same day of the surgery which was really nice. The longest part of my recovery was the bruising around my naval area from where they pulled my gallbladder out of my body. It was nice not having to stay in the hospital waiting for surgical incisions to heal.
Ooooooo. I had mine taken out around the same time, but not by a robot. I only had to stay in the hospital for a couple hours after I woke up. My scars are pretty big though and I was in pretty bad pain for a couple weeks. Should've got the robot. 😂
