#TheRaconteurs #OldEnough
Lyrics:
You look pretty in your fancy dress
But I detect unhappiness
You never speak so I have to guess
You're not free
There, maybe when you're old enough
You'll realize you're not so tough
And some days the seas get rough
And you'll see
You're too young to have it figured out
You think you know what you're talking about
You think it will all work itself out
But we'll see
When I was young I thought I knew
You probably think you know too
Do you?
Well do you?
I was naive just like you
I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do
Well, what you gonna do?
(What a fool)
And how have you gotten by so far
Without having no visible scar?
No one knowing who you really are
They can't see
What you gonna do (what you gonna do)
What you gonna do now
The only way you'll ever learn a thing
Is to admit that you know absolutely nothing
Oh nothing
Think about this carefully
You might not get another chance to speak freely
Oh freely
Baby when you're old enough
You're not free - Hudba
It's 2023 and I've yet to discover a song I've enjoyed more than this version of Old Enough. It's absolutely perfect. Still gives me goosebumps
Yes, my friend keep your Search😊 you're going. You will be happy.
Ricky Skaggs is a national treasure!
Ricky Skaggs is a vile piece of shit who has promoted Trump's big lie about the 2020 election and much of Q-Anon's nonsense. Being a world-class mandolinist and leader of a great band doesn't change that.
I swear this is a stone groove. This doesn't come around all the time. Y'all appreciate it.
Brendan Benson is a great vocalist and song writer. Brendan and Ashley's vocal harmonies on this track are fantastic.
AMEN🙏🕊️❣️💯🇺🇸
What beautiful harmony between Brendan Benson and Ashley Monroe. I especially love the way they finish the song and they can't contain their smiles. Please keep doing country collaborations Jack. Nashville agrees with you son.
I discovered them years ago & am absolutely thrilled to see them thrive 😊
Ashley Monroe's voice is pure magic
People know Alisson Krauss's voice but I don't hear it that often a little more than Ashley's but not much.
Ricky Scaggs on mandolin certainly added to this version they are all amazing together
The most extraordinary live performance and the camera work and editing are beyond. Every frame is artists interacting making beautiful music. Imo one of the best music videos ever made.
I have read some of the comments here and i agree Brendan Benson is killing it. The arrangement is other-worldly, Jack is Jack which means great, Ashley Monroe sings like an angel, and Ricky Skaggs is a legend and a musical genius. The rest of the Raconteurs are also top shelf in my opinion and the best of the best of Jack White's bands/projects. They are simply great. Period.
Beautiful Synopsis of this magnificent band!
Jack's ability to work in nearly any genre or with any musician shows his unique talent. Man is a genius of his day and will be remembered as fondly as any of the masters in decades to come.
He's just playing simple guitar here. Stop being over impressed at the wrong time for the wrong person.
This is just perfect! I just hate how so little people get to enjoy real music like this nowadays
little people? regardless what Hollyweird tells you...WE ARE ALL EQUAL....lololol
@@carlchiveral3294 I'd say the media have influenced al this kifs into buying all that commercial music. This is art and not many people get to appreciate art. Greetings!
@@MusicLovingFool1 I have no idea of what your comment is suppose to mean but I can tell you what I meant, and that is that this should be what's playing on the radio stations and not the crap they have on, by saying"little" I meant only a few of us get to know this and it should be out there for everyone to enjoy
Good music is more accessible than ever yet people choose to ignore it.
Worry about just you. Other people are just fine with the music they like... which makes sense. This sounds pretty derivative to me, but nice recording. Great vocal.
Brendon Benson has one of the most underrated voices in music today.
YES
agreed, effortless
Why wasn't this a huge hit, great song, great arrangement, great playing, it's got everything.
"wake up little susie" was a pretty big hit....
It was great. I saw the Raconteurs on August 31, 2019 in Nashville and they performed this with Ashley Monroe. A month earlier, August...1st I think, or so, I saw Ricky Skaggs in the same place!
Pop country just wasn't ready....
This baffles me also..I love bluegrass, love the songwriter, love Jack White...love Ashley's voice...why indeed?
This version was never released
Ashley Monroe is so underrated. Absolutely love her. Ricky and Jack are phenomenal together. Brendan Benson did a damn fine job on lead vocals. A phenomenal job all the way around
@Martin G and what’s wrong with that?
Hope I don't offend, but I like Ashley better when she is singing in an ensemble like this or a duet.
Her voice just meshes so well in those contexts. Singing lead? Doesn't float my boat.
She is beautiful 😍
She is beautiful 😍 ang a good singer I think old enough is a good so and a inspirational tune
She really is like the perfect modern country girl singer. That is an incredible jam session with some of the best musicians around.
This is why I admire JACK.. he is completely fine with stepping into any type of music and bringing his own personal style and passion for music and making sure it’s a great connection... with anyone who have the love of life and music deep within
Love Jack White, he is so great......... and he looks good playing the guitar.
@@johnwilson9810 such a beautiful morning waking up to positive energy from people about incredible music
The same can be said of Mr Skaggs
@@scottmccullough4267: And Ashley.
@@scottmccullough4267 ABSOLUTELY.
I like this better than the LP version. Ashley's vocals really knock it out along with Ricky's righteous mandolin. Taking a good song to a new place that elevates it.
Ricky once again shows why he is a living legend. He knows how to be part of a band, and to make it better without stealing the show. His musical sense is just unerring.
Martin G WTF is wrong with you?
I think that is common with bluegrass players. Every jamboree I've been to has been just one big jam session.
I'd like to hear your band play Martin.
Amen
Bet it’s a one man band 😂
The caliber of musicianship in this video deserves everyones respect!
Yes Sir , my name is Revolution czcams.com/video/LmeCNkhBJns/video.html
Wholeheartedly agree
I'd love to see them in a gig
EZ Vin even as a metalhead, the strings are certified legit. Bluegrass is so close to metal, it’s at times, a battle of acoustic and electric. The only true battle of the strings there is if I’m being honest.
Edit: spelled a word wrong.
@@lancecarrauthers8454 so true....so soulful and pure
Starting around 1:53, see the look on Jack’s face, and then just watch the way Ashley Monroe smiles at Brendon Benson while they sing that verse and he can’t help but smile back with his eyes-what an absolute, unadulterated delight this video is.
Quite the gathering of pure talent right there.
Miranda Lambert introduced me to Ashley Monroe and Ashley introduced me to the Raconteurs. This is why I love country music.
I am not a huge Country Music fan, but this is amazing!
Overload of talent. Wow and Ricky can play anything. He is a true treasure.
Anything with Ricky Skaggs and Jack White in it has to be amazing.
I listened to this version of the song in 2020 for the first time, a few weeks ago. No one knows how many times I've listened to this. There's something about this song that is just astonishing and makes want to listen to it non-stop... What an amazing song.
Ditto!
Saaaaaame!!!
Old man once said , "it's all about what you learned after you knew everything."
Every time I think I have it all worked out I muck it all up and fall flat on my ass.wise words indeed
Iv always said if an old man starts talking about life, sit down shut the f*** up and listen.
Best advice EVER!
I like that so much that I wrote it down for my boys...Thank you
Wise old man
This makes me so happy. I watch it every week. There's nothing better.
Producers: “What instrument would you like to play?”
Ricky: “Yes.”
So much damn talent
Jeez. When Jack White takes a back seat in a song, you know there is some talent in that room!
He was never that talented. He's third rate, at best.
Well don't blow any trumpet but talent goes along way and and this is talent if you play or just like to listen well who are we we to judge because this is well orcastrated so it's a good song x
@@hadmatter9240 we will wait patiently for your forthcoming submissions of tunes that will expose Jack friggen' White as a 'third rate' talent. I have a feeling it's going to be a long damn wait...
Yep and their all great Musicians.
Jack does it all. Records, Produces. Songwriter, Composes and Sings. He has a Recording Studio in Nashville too. He tells how he went to Loretta Lynn’s house and just walked up to the door and knocked on her door and she comes to the door and he introduced himself. She loves him, they’re great Friends. He’s amazing. ♥️
@@hadmatter9240 What a hack, right? Oh here's him making an electric guitar out of a coke bottle and a piece of wood. Do some research, bro czcams.com/video/r_F7aiOvdwE/video.html
Ricky Skaggs wouldnt just lend his time to anyone, bunch of talent right there as a group.
Anything that includes Ricky Skaggs is a blessing. Ashley Monroe is so beautiful and talented, and they all make a great harmony.
Jay Leno's brother playing the hell outta that mandolin ❤️
I thought that was Ricky Skaggs playing the Mandolin. ♥️
I thought it was Steve Bannon!
Still an unending fave. And whoever shot this, this camerawork and finished visual is phenomenal!
My Mama was a HUGE Ricky Skaggs fan, I lost her in '09 so listening to his music makes me feel like a moment with her🤗💜💜💜💜👏👏
She had great taste . My home house is the same . And the Nashville cats and Vince gill. Great music
I like watching the musicians' eyes dart around the room to see who's on the same page.
This song smells like old polished wood and leather and whisky... It’s delicious...
Couldn’t have put it better myself my friend 🍻🤘
Indeed love it
You said it, brother. Me? I’m getting hints of wet leaves, old car, barn wood, and dog. Anybody else?
wow thats well said. god bless
@@PMeyer-nm9yu absolutely !!!
I'm a grasser. This song hit me in 2022. We are all on the timeline somewhere. I too think it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard for many reasons. It just HITS. The vocal harmonies, the bands' attitude, Ricky Skaggs on mando. Everything works. This song will hold it's own over the years.
I'm a rock and roller, but Ricky Skaggs is one of the most talented cats out there. He seems like a good dude too.
took the words right outta my mouth :)
He is an amazing musician. He also shreds on the guitar.
saw him in concert thirty-some years ago. the man played five instruments that day, amazingly well with all of them. Sang his heart out, and what he talked about in between songs, showed us all what a down-to-earth great wonderful man he truly is! thank you Ricky Skaggs.:-)
You got that right, He is an amazing musician, and your feelings are totally right! He is an awesome guy, and Loves Loves Jesus more than any and all!
Too bad Sierra Hull was just a child because at age 13, she had a professional contract and could beat RS like a drum. PLUS, she's a HECKUVA' FUN nice Person!. Skaggs is an A-HOLE who insults crowds, tries to be Bill Monroe if Monroe had let his hair grow out like an old woman. AND he has a very, VERY hard time keeping people in his own band..I'm suprised he did this video being the hard core stick-n-the-mud trad bluegrasser he is.
Ricky Skaggs is an American treasure!
Hell yeah he's a treasure!
There's some talent in that studio. Damn.
There's also an early 20s Ashley Monroe who is absolutely gorgeous.
I just recently discovered this gem. Always been a Ricky Skaggs fan and was genuinely surprised by this collaboration. And Ashley Monroe has a voice that I could listen to all day. How is it I missed this until recently
I'm 61 years old. I saw the first Beatles gig on Ed Sullivan when I was a kid, and I've been a follower of all genres of music from all parts of the world since that time. I have no favorite song or artist, as to me, each has merit in some way that I can admire and enjoy.
This video showcases musical brilliance in my opinion, and is the first video to ever bring wet eyes to my face due to its sound.
Songs such as this one are WHY MUSIC IS LOVED!
Thank each one of you for giving us, the listener, this pleasure.
THANK YOU!
All music? Who u like better 2Pac or Biggie?
Both are geniuses.
@@roblong8717 I agree they were both talented. It depends on taste. If you prefer poetry, deep thought, and memorable music 2Pac. It has been said that Biggie was a better rapper. Had a better flow of words.
I bet you have some great stories to tell over a pint.
So you were six years old when you saw the Beatles ? Good memory !
Fuckin Skaggs is an Icon and a Legend, I love that mans talents
Hes so under rated
Never thought I'd hear a human say ricky skaggs and underrated in the same sentence.
I’ve been listening to Ricky Skaggs as old probably as “The Raconteurs” are. Loved “The White Stripes” too and the album w/Loretta Lynn they both won an Award. He’s in the Movie “Cold Mountain” and by the way “he’s easy on the Eyes. And when says yeah at the end is Awesome. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️♥️

@@tannerozenbaugh8399 So true.
Ashley Monroe sure is easy on the eyes. Man i love this song
To nail a song as much as they nailed this one must be exhilarating.
Ricky Skaggs obviously one of the greatest instrumentalists in THE WORLD.🎻🎸
This is the beauty of CZcams, that you can randomly stumble across a gem like this!! Brendan is great but what I want to know is why isn't Ashley a household name, such a super singer! A whole lotta talent right here!!
She just finished chemo and released a holiday CD with the Pistol Annies
Divine! Love the Bluegrass feel and i love Jack's absolute respect and appreciation for music. A delight to the ears.
AH...😄😊 When she sings... she gives me chills 😄😊💚
Step in Brendan Benson's shoes. He's in a room full of people playing a brilliant version of a song that he primarily wrote. He's on lead vocals, absolutely killing it. He goes home and watches it on CZcams, only to read all the comments saying "JACK WHITE IS AMAZING!" Power to the dude for keeping at it after all these years living in the shadows!
I agree!! Great job Brendan, Cincy loves u!!
RedYellow Blue - I was thinking the exact same thing. Brendan is credited nowhere and he's just crushing it here. He's incredible.
Who is Brendan Benson?
Jack Johnson has the style of a teenager trying to look grown up.
White I meant.
My god the talent, the arrangement and the engineering. I react every time i watch this.
2:55 Watching Jack and Ricky play that lick in perfect unison and feeling the little hesitation together warms my heart
Never mind the money or the fame, it's these collaborations that make me wish I could call a mulligan and dedicate my entire existence to music from a young age. Just...crushing it, everyone involved here. Thank you for enriching my life with this piece of brilliance.
Gotta say it. At the re-entry @ 4:40 the player on the upright simply nails that beat into eternity. As one with perfect rhythm, sometimes that downbeat crushes it just right.
My mother loved bluegrass and she played Ricky Skaggs all the time when I was a kid. Now that I'm in my thirties I look back and realize I love this music internally!
In my opinion? This Jam session is Pure Musical geniuses at work & play! God I’m blessed to of heard this “coming together” of talent!!
Yeah man! I've got this song on basically all of my playlists and when it comes on I usually listen to again! 🎶🎸🤓👍

Ashley voice just compliments the awesome musicians
Voice of an angel. Wow strong musical blood running through her veins
I had the pleasure of introducing my new "bonus" son to bluegrass. He is from western Oklahoma and had never heard anything like this! We live in SW Missouri. Bluegrass and gospel is in our blood!
When Ashley starts the track, OMG. I just couldn't get over it. ♥️
Ricky Skaggs is a legend.
The best thing about this video is everyone looks like their having great time playing with great fellow musicians.
Jack White and Ricky Skaggs jamming together , my life is now complete .
This song is absolutely phenomenal! But the one thing that keeps me coming back to it is Ashley Monroe's voice. So sweet and beautiful like a force pulling me into the center of heaven,
I want to find more ways to love this because it’s literally one of the best things to ever be.
Anyone else in love with her vocals? Heart thoroughly melted...
I honestly think that all modern songs should have a mandatory bluegrass version.

Observed; every musician worth their salt wears proper hats.
Brendan Benson & Ashley Monroe sound GREAT together on this cut! More like this please! And Ricky Skaggs is always great! Such talent and I'm impressed that he likes to mentor the younger generation!
Yes they do
Jack White appreciates virtuosos on instruments like Ricky Scaggs. Moving to Nashville was a smart move since it’s a music town and he can find quality players there to record with.
But he didn’t forget his hometown and opened a recording plant and store there too! What a great guy! I admire him so much! He doesn’t forget where he came from!
Agree. You know Jack White kicks ass all over the world with different kinds of performers. And when Third Man records opened up, the first thing I did was buy a tote bag...couldn't make it to Nashville but thank god for on-line. So we we love our Jack White. Love the Raconteurs love white stripes. I would love to see him but his musical genre has expanded so much that he's pretty much able to do what he wants to do when he wants to and where...and Central FL isn't exactly known for excellent kick butt music.
Where did he come from
Jack White was born and raised in Detroit... that is his 'hometown.'
Sorry, but Jack White's career has been all about being a Clingon. Above average player (see Grohl, Petty, etc.), who's whole career's hell-bent on attaching one's self to other's successes. I've played /recorded with better folk, and this poser ain't coming close.
@@scottdouglasmaclachlan4792 Poppycock.
How fun that must have been...thanks for sharing a little fun with us, folks!
Ashley....... the voice of an Angel.
Everyone should know this
I love how each and every instrument as well as each and every voice is absolutelly essential to the song. Each has their part, fullfills it and none becomes overwheling.
Love it!
Bring music and art back to schools nationwide.
Think about it, there is no schooling/education system on earth where music and art(one in the same), are primary subjects...And, that's intentional.
Schooling exists primarily to create good workers and not free thinkers and feelers.
@@StennMathis Smart enough to run the machine, dumb enough not to question a thing.
Honestly, let the kids who are talented enough to learn music have the option to do so. I remember being in school and I really sucked at music but some of my classmates were great at it. If nothing else it's a good learning experience, i learned I sucked at music and it's like a foreign language to me, but other kids might learn that's their thing
I love it when Jack and Ricky are playing face to face.
Ricky Scaggs has been a favorite of mine for over 35 years....yeah im old.
everything Jack White touches turns to GOLD
except his last album
He's a hack that got some money from a fad.
Now he can afford to play with people FAR beyond his capabilities.
Kind of embarrassing for him.
A lot of talent in that room, a huge amount of creativity from Jack White.
With that much talent in one room, how could it not be one of my top 10 jack white songs
What a great band, the Raconteurs, and then you have Ricky Skaggs-a legend, and one of the Pistol Annie's member Ashley singing too. Awesome and beautiful
Do you see the talent in that room folks ? Grinning from ear to ear here !
i love most music, but i keep coming back to this particular rendition of old enough. And i've come to the conclusion that it might be one of, if not my favorite song ever.
If perfection is even possible this has to be it. The closest to it i've ever seen if it's not. The amount of talent in that room is on another level.
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!! A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS SONG IN 2010... I STILL LOVE YOU CHRISTINA MAE BUSH !!!
Kudos to Jack White! He can step in anywhere and add his own special style and flavor! It's not his first rodeo with Ricky... What a super blend of harmonies!!! Love it!

2 inch tape? Who gives a crap?
@@yamahajapan5351 Recording to tape gives music a feel that studio engineers otherwise have to try to get with digital plugin technology that doesn't quite hit the mark. However, recording to tape is alot harder than patching a song together on the computer. But man, the cohesion and sound that you get is worth it. So that's why people give a crap.
