Jet2 737-800 ABORTED LANDING in VERY LOW CLOUD at Madeira! | DIVERSION to Porto Santo!

My trip to Funchal really didn't go as planned, when we departed Manchester, FNC was showing light winds, sunny skies and warm temps. However by the time our aircraft, G-JZHO reached FNC, the conditions had become much worse with very low cloud, drizzle and rain.
We entered a hold at fix ABUSU and remained there for 40 minutes before the captain opted to divert to Porto Santo, however midway through this process the conditions appeared to improve, so we began an approach to Runway 05 at FNC, things looked good as we dropped out the clouds with the airport in sight, then in a few seconds all visibility was lost and the captain then opted to abort the landing and land at PXO which we did around 5 minutes later!
Genuinely cannot believe this happened, but I must say, massive props to the crew for handling the situation extremely well, as you'll see in my next few videos!

Excellent video my friend, it is an uncomfortable situation, but unfortunately it has been very frequent in this airport, either because of the wind or because of the low visibility, briefly the government will announce measures to face these constraints that are affecting and much tourism in the Island

I remember a good few years ago flying out of Stansted to Gurnsey onboard an Air Uk Bae146 got to Gurnsey fog had set in. Captain wanted to go to Jersey but they couldn,t take us so diverted to Souuthampton sat there waiting to see if weather would clear to try Gurnsey again. It didn't so back to Stanstead we went, had to go back home to Luton then travel again next day got into Gurnsey ok.

Yeah I was thinking exactly that! What a coincidence that I filmed the same plane go around and divert a few weeks before I myself went around and diverted!
As soon as you see the flaps retract at 6:35 that's a pretty universal sign that you are going around 😂

That's right yeah, we were right on the minima when we lost visual with the runway
