It took Jurgen Klopp three years to build the Liverpool team he really wanted. But by the 18/19 season, he had a squad that was perfect for the football he believed in. It's insane how amazing yet slightly unfortunate Klopp's tenure at Liverpool is. The only team to fail the league with 90+ points TWICE, and when they did won the league, they clinched it during covid lockdown.
But still imo one of the most influential manager in Liverpool history.
How he turned that structurally and fincancially horrible Liverpool team into one of the best in the world again is quite astonishing.
We lifted the trophy during COVID lockdown.. we won it way way before then

Every fan (even everton fans and united fans) wanted to watch Liverpool play because they FOUGHT for possession. it was beautiful. Jurgen truly wanted to dominate in a way that was enjoyable to play and watch. He hated "park the bus" tactics. Gini-Fab-Hendo midfield were soo talented and relentless. Plus sadio mane was a "box-to-box" winger. Dominated that entire left side. One of the greatest teams ever put together..... Period.

Well said. One of the few managers that went toe to toe with Pep, home and away, in two different leagues and with far less resources. As a Man Utd fan, I am envious of that accolade. A true legend.
Klopp is a legend, winning the league going up against a financially doped club is a great achievement. Crazy how Zidane and Carlo denied Klopp a legendary European legacy.

Klopp always was in the finals of the ucl with clubs of crisis. BvB was 2008/09 nothing more than Wolfsburg today, and the same goes for Liverpool. Of course Pep made Barca and City better, but Barca and City were before Pep already Wolrdclass. BvB and Liverpool were far away from Worldclass.

Jürgen turned his team to super stars. None of the Liverpool players were super stars except Milly who was maestro and won the league with a mancity star studded side. Klopp took players who barely won a league cup from their previous clubs and turned them to an engine room of Europe most sort after players 🎉
As a United fan, the game that impressed me (and frustrated me) more than any other was the 2-1 win at Aston Villa. It finally looked like Liverpool would lose, or at least drop points, and two past the 89th minute wins them the game. I resigned myself, in that moment, to Liverpool winning the league that season.

This is what Klopp was all about and boy did he achieve his goal. Being from the subcontinent, i did like football but it was never my go to sports to watch but it all changed when Muhammad Salah joined Liverpool. I started watching Liverpool's matchs for Muhammad Salah but kept watching due to the ideology of a legendary manager. Football won't be the same.

this video helped me understand that klopp is not the coach for barca, his whole always work hard and press well philosophy wouldn't work there because gavi is our only real player in the midfield and attack that does that well
Raphinha works quite hard, Ferran does as well and you could include frenkie if you want

Great video! And i couldn’t agree more. In my opinion Klopp also brought a type of mentality to the club that drove players and fans to develop a stronger passion for the team from which they could all feed from. This helped the team win titles and play spectacular football

Ironically they actually did control games, especially in the 21/22 season. They were probably the best passing team in the world bar City.
That’s because we acquired Thiago who could control games on his own, and Liverpool were transitioning to a more control-based side.
That's the transition period to a later, more controlled style. Seb was looking at the 2018-2020 period.

This is why im lowkey scared if xabi comes in, bayer currently play a more controlled guardiola style of attacking while also pressing less. Will be interesting to see how the players and the fans at anfield react to that.
I really love Klopp didn't get to see his Mainz team, personally I enjoyed the BVB team than LIV.
I guess because he wanted to compete with the better sides of Europe he made LIV more structured than his BVB team that was more dynamic.

A while back i looked at some xg stats. Liverpool regularly exceeded their predicted xg points, and occasionally significantly posted actual points well below their predicted xg total. When I looked at the numbers, Liverpool had the weirdest game state numbers. Most teams get better when they go in front, and worse when they go behind. Liverpool got better both when they were behind, or when they were in front. They were at their weakest when it was nil nil - the least emotional, steady state.
It seems this team was at its best when the game was on, heated and heavy metal. Just as Klopp wanted.
Great content showing football is about a lot more than just numbers - as much as i love the data.

Klopp's departure makes me even more frustrated at Xavi's situation. Klopp started in a very lacklusture way compared to peak Liverpool, and with time he built his machine that became this force that would go toe to toe with Pep's City and often come away on top. Meanwhile in Barcelona, Xavi won two trophies last season, and within 6 months, he is almost being forced to step aside.
Modern football is overcrowded by glory hunters.
I think him doing so well so quickly has made people forgot Barca are still crippled behind the scenes, whoever goes in won't last long in my opinion.

It's not ABC coaching. They wanted to be unpredictable. Hence, Darwin is their type of player. He is unpredictable but always there to cause chaos and contributes to goals.
I think Liverpool were a bit more control in 18/19 onwards. If you're talking about absolute chaos then Liverpool in 2017/18 was definitely it. They were all guns blazing, all attacking, zero defending. They would either tear the opponent to shreads in the first half or completely burnout of exhaustion. No in between😂

Between the idea of controlled football to minimize risk and one of increased chaos to maximize risk, I prefer the former. It's why Pep's man city is more consistent and suffer less injuries. Klop's way is nice to watch but it requires too much energy, therefore it can only bring results short term. Long term Pep will always win because his style is patient.

If ever team epitomises quality over quantity, it was LIV spending big on VVD & Alyson, as opposed to what TOTT did with the 140m Countiniho money.

We will appreciate VVD even more when time passes, the man was utterly unbelievable as a defender. Still is excellent, but 2018-2020 VVD is just a very quick brick wall.

This liverpool era was officialy ended by real Madrid last year at anfield when liverpool was beaten 5-2
Mane wasn't there and a lot of the others had declined. Liverpool were last a GREAT team and a top team in europe in 2022. Like the video said though, liverpool's peak under klopp was 2018-2020 and the best single calendar year was 2019. Liverpool are rebuilding ahead of schedule and currently in the 2023/24 title race as of Feb 2024 but it'll be another year or two until they're contending for best team in europe again.

As a fans, i cant thank enough that this man come to our club and bring us back to our perch, who been sleeping for a long time and seems like dont have a will to compete at the top level, everything changes after Klopp came, if you are a fans, you know that something is shifting to better things, from the west brom match, lost on europe final and also ucl final, and jeez what a season 18-20 was, we got all of trophies that available and words cant even express it, but we also knew that this style of football come with cost, if we cant keep our skuad refresh than thats what happen on season 20-22, i feel that skuad is just out of fuel and our owner cant even see something need to be done if you want to keep that winning season we had before with consistency every year, you need to look for players depths, players that hungry and want to works for badge of this club. I know its just devastating that Klopp announce want to leave the club this season, i can understand how tired he is, not only for lack support from our owner, our rivals seems like never worries at all if looking for resources of what their club needs. Im grateful for this 9 years with Klopp, i can see how well my club progress from mediocre with Hodgson becoming mentality giant under Klopp. I just hope the next one can fill the shoes that Klopp left, because it wont easy, its needs time and patience, but i hope whoever is it, he will continue the tradition of our club, the winning team that conquer all of europe and england.
