Going through a employer training is recommended. You get experience as you learn. You have a job afterwards. You are paid while doing so. You pay back the tuition, mainly by them deducting the pay out of your check.

Truck schools don't teach you how to drive at all, only to pass a test. You know shit about driving a truck after school. The way I did was get a job on a farm hauling grain without a cdl. Learn how to drive for a year then go get Cdl's, then it will be a breeze. At that point you have experience and Cdl's and anybody will hire you.

There is a HUGE problem with this info.
You have to stay with the company for a year and hope to god they dont let you go before you finish your payment for the school.
If you go to a carrier sponsored school and you get fired before you finish payment of the school payment, you will not get your school completion certificate,
and you still owe and have to pay back that carrier for the school process & time, Even after you are fired, they are going to get that money one way or another.
BTW - The carrier always holds on to this until the payment is completed for the school.
If you go through a normal CDL school in your hometown, and you take the road test in your home town as well, you dont need to stay with them for a year as you do with carrier sponsored schools
, and you get your certificate of completion right away from the school of your hometown, once you pass the DMV road test. Because the payment is already made.
Unlike carriers that will make you wait an entire year in order for them to hand you the certificate of completion of the school.
So basically if you have a normal job, save up your money and go through your hometown school and DMV. - You will have more freedom once you pass the DMV and you get the school certificate.
Many companies require drivers to show them the original document of the school completion certificate, or they will make you go through a school all over again until you can furnish the certificate.
Also for special families that are either low income or can obtain financial aid, they can get financial aid for trucking school, if the city agency see's that you are trying to better your life and be independant. They have extremely strict rules regarding financial aid for driving schools though, and in many cases you have to pay for half over a certain amount of time, but that depends on
your individual circumstances of that particular person and family and history they have on file with City, State and Federal records including but not limited to work history from Social Security Office..
You can also get a Educational Grant from the federal or State government, which will give you a grant for the school.

I went to Houston Community College trucking school and I learned everything their has to do about driving a truck. they taught me the basics. it wasn't til I was out driving on my own when I started to learn the game of trucking and I'm still learning. so the 6 Weeks of school I took was very helpful. If you can go to a CDL school I’d say do it! Yes you can pass all the tests on your own and rent a truck and take the DPS test but you will most likely fail the first few times and it takes a while before you can re take the test. I went to the school because I wanted to get used to the feel of the truck and they also taught us in standards so you wouldn’t have that restriction on your license. Yeah some of the instructors where just there for a check but some actually have a shit and you can also learn a lot from guys that’s been driving for a long time.

For your edification... no matter how you got your CDL you're not free to shop around.... so don't get the big head... you're not a truck driver yet... you have to go with an over-the-road trainer before you can solo.... that means you have to stay with a self-insured carrier... other carriers require 2 years experience their insurance won't cover you!

Maybe a company is out there that would accept that but I seriously doubt it would be a company worth working for. 25.000 dollars a cdl would set you back here at private driving schools. but we also have state run schools that you can take if over 21 years old and are 19 weeks. but they are free.
kids can also start out in transportation school. after two years at 18 they go out as apptrentice drivers for another two years.
so the skill level when drivers go out to work are so high that often no need for driving with a trainer.

Martay Beatty when you work at amazon (not the temp agency) after 1 continuous year they pay 95% of tuition of any trade school and other programs, in my building they have a classroom where they bring teachers in and train us on the program, for the cdl its easy, the hard part was the off set backing, but most of it is easy, like driving a bigger car, my program was 8 weeks, 4 weeks class time 4 weeks on the range

+El Pokool you get very little drive time there (i only got a couple of hours), if you get your cdl from them and dont complete your 9 months (6 for veterans) you owe them 7500.

Yes some clds school due just want your money but that why you stay away from 3rd party schools. I'm going to a big school with a 6 mouth program. It's a 11k class I got a grant for 5k then when I leave I'll get hired with a company that pays tuition reimbursement 150 bucks a month up to 6k. That's my class A license with doubles, triples, and tanker indorsement payed off. Just do some research before picking a school. Talk to some people

    • @boneygrave8014

    CDL School is a joke!
The one I went to and quit was crap! they let you drive around a gravel pit with a trailer and bob tailing about all they taught was changing gears and double clutching!! They did teach air brakes in 2 classes and how to adjust them but that was it no backing trailers or chaining tires, Basically if you could change gears and lanes on the highway you passed!! $11 000 to basically to learn how to clear the trailer on turns. 2 grads from that school found a diving job that did not last 2 months..they were both fired for not being able to handle the truck! and they were CDL graduates!!
The entire course was 11 000 including our fuel . they gave us a log book and most or us had no idea what the fuck to do with it I had a person about to graduate ask me how to fill it out I had the book but had to say fucked if I know! Know when they learnt the way to use the logbook was with the company that hired them, after they were taken out of service by The Department of Highways who fined the company!
I never did this but they did not even have a book for the course, they drove for 4 hours a day for 2 weeks and put on public highways in traffic for the road test
I did heavy equipment on a front end loader, a excavator, and a bulldozer and learnt a lot more than CDL Instructors taught us about trucks

Damn that’s crazy lmao. I did a 6 week course, paid for by a Virginia work force grant, learned to offset back, straight line, 90 degree back, and 45 degree back, as well as accumulating 300 miles of driving time. We learned double clutch method. Passed DMV with flying colors, got my CDL. While we were there, we could see Swift and some other CDL school bring people to fail while my school had a 98% success rate. SVCC in Virginia.
