What if the reason for our universe being so vast and yet so silent is darker than we think? What if we are destined to perish, hunted by an ancient civilization that destroys every new life that thrives and attempts to reach out to the cosmos?
Void Whispers is set in the 1940s, and you play as Mike, a newcomer to Cosmo City working as a broadcast engineer. Your task is to master the use of radio equipment to broadcast the latest news to the town folks, all while mysterious events unfold in the sky.

The game was just okay, imo. The time pressure _did_ ramp up the tension, but the enemies were more silly than scary to me. It was your frenetic commentary, CJU, that made the game fun to watch. 👍

@@Scriptor13 I don't deny he does good commentary, and his voice isn't loud and obnoxious like some gamers I've watched.
As for me, I can scare quite easily in a game. Mostly in first person games. I remember one time I was playing Halo, I had just gotten to the mission where you meet The Flood. I remember I turned around and one jumped at me. I actually ducked irl.

I admit my first thought was War of the Worlds! I was I admit, kinda hoping that it would turn out to have been some grand (unintentional or intentional) hoax. I admit that sort of bait-and-switch entertain me!
Started slow, but tension REALLY amped up at the end there. Enjoyed it a lot

Hellstar Remina is really good no work has better captured the world ending in a such a hopeless way. This was an ok game, the smiley face aliens was a little too goofy though and not really scary imo. Thanks for the video!

Ha! Yeah, trying to get through any of Benoit's *Siberia* episodes without a walkthrough is close to impossible, but the series is mesmerizing. CJU did do the walkthroughs for 1, 2, & 3 I believe, but I skipped them because I'd already played the games. Think I'll go watch how Chris narrated his way through them. Thanks for the re-think!

I’d give you grief for not getting the other endings, but if the hero ending ended in disaster, I don’t think the others would be any better

The creatures look goofy, there's some "out of place artifact" going on with the radio, but aside from these, for me, atmospheric, sound-based horror games are the best in immersion, a huge plus on that!
Ending could have been better! Also, who builds a bunker without weapons in it!?

It would be really cool if you tried Voices of the Void. It’s a great horror game and is being constantly updated by the devs. Could maybe be a series or something? Anyway just thought I’d suggest it if you haven’t heard of it already.

The real horror is when the radio host keeps stopping and starting the music from the beginning over and over again instead of just muting/unmuting it... Could be an effective way of getting rid of unnerving listeners I guess. 🤣

Kind of misleading for this game’s developer to use that Sagan quote for this game when Carl Sagan was on record as saying he thought the empirical evidence didn’t support the idea of the kind of extraterrestrial life we see in science fiction stories or hear about in alleged UFO sightings / abductions. It would be like starting up a game about psychics with a quote from James Randi.

A lot of potential, but the graphics killed most of it. Way too dark and the interaction cuts to black were annoying
I have to say, this game leaves so much on the table it's kinda sad. There aren't really any mechanics revolving around managing the radio station that are worth mentioning, and there's no feedback around playing the music. I was expecting something as simple as the moral dilemma of choosing whether or not to simply keep playing music through the apocalypse, sort of grinning at the darkness. Hell, there's so little feedback, I realized it didn't matter that I couldn't tell if the music was muted on the broadcast or not, since none of your listeners are programmed to care, or exist.
Likewise, the game page on Steam claims it's set in the 40's, but there next to nothing in the game to indicate it's from that period of time. Ignoring the download progress bar, and the 8-segment digital displays, all of the equipment looked mid-century-modern in design, which would indicate it's from at lease one decade later. Likewise, William only occasionally spoke like he was from the period, the news reporter really didn't sound like a period reporter, our character's mannerisms didn't seem to fit, and the government broadcasts used an analogue-horror synthesized voice ... which is absolutely anachronistic. Remember, the first true computer was only just crafted during the Second World War. That kind of poorly synthesized voice that analogue horror media love to use would not appear for quite some time.
There is so much room for a horror game set in the 40's, presumably post-war. There was a rising fear of the Soviets, fear of the atomic bomb, an absolute trust in science and scientific progress, and a societal desire to leave the trauma of the Second World War in the past while simultaneously craving media that reflected the darkness everyone experienced. It's a fertile ground to explore ... and this game went for spooky floating smiles in the nighttime.
The one thing that did fit was the source of the horror itself. A new planet suddenly appearing, and an alien threat terrorizing cities is absolutely a good homage to sci-fi of the time. Unfortunately, I don't think the game lives up to anything else it may or may not have tried to achieve.
my advice: skip the first 15 minutes
