Lay-Z-Spa Pump/Heater - How to use the Timer Function

  • This guide shows how to use and set the timer function which is included on all new 2016 & 2017 Lay-Z-Spa pumps.
    There are two components to setting the Lay-Z-Spa heating timer:
    1. You first set the duration that you would like the heater to stay on for (up to 48 hours) or for any other duration of time you’d like less than this. You can adjust the timing in hourly units.
    2. You then set when your spa heater turns on, up to 24 hours in advance. This is also programmable with hourly units.
    For more info see our blog: www.lay-z-spa.co.uk/blog/how-d...

    So in simple terms, first timer setting you are choosing how long to heat for. The second one is how long UNTIL it starts heating. So if its 9pm when I set it, I set it to 3 hours to make it start at 12pm

      @@pecs2222 - press the timer button, it flashes 0H, press the arrows up/down for how long you want the tub to heat - example 9H.
      Press timer button again and the display will read 0H. Up/down arrow for when you want that 9 hour timer to start - example 3H.
      Press timer button again and set the temp. It will display the current water temp, press up/down arrows to desired temp - example 96F.
      So, in 3 hours, your hot tub will start heating the water from current temp to 96F. It will run for 9 hours.
      So, it it took 4 hours to achieve 96 degrees, it will continue to heat and hold the temp for an additional 5 hours before it turns off.
      Whew! 😄

  • @doug8715
    @doug8715 Před 6 lety +93

    So for people as confused as I was about the heating duration and heating time function, I found out that the heater does not reset and turn on automatically after the set cycle is complete. Basically how it works is you turn on your pump, touch the timer button and 1st set the heating duration (how long you want the hot tub to heat for), then touch the timer again and set your heating timer (how many hours from that time you set it for, for when the heater kicks on). Example: It is 12pm and I want the heater to start heating my hot tub starting at 5pm and I want it to heat for 6 hours because I want it nice and hot for when I get in it at night time around 9-10pm. So I would click on the timer button and set the heat duration for 6 hours and then hit the timer again I would set the heat time for 5 hours, because for the example I am using it is 12pm and I want the heater to kick on at 5pm, with a heat duration of 6 hours. So at 5pm it will kick on and heat my hot tub until 11pm. It will then shut of and it WILL NOT automatically reset and start again. You will have to go back and do this sequence all over again. Hope this helps the people that are/were just as confused as I was.

      D Mo thanks for that, they should really explain that it's a "one time function" it would be much better to have this function repeat. All it's really good for is for when you're not around for up to 3 days.

    • @3DPeter
      @3DPeter Před 6 lety +5

      Good explanation, but the whole idea uses more electricity, because it takes 1500 watts to heat up 1000 liters of water just one degree, so when you turn off
      the heater for a few hours, the spa wil cool off alot of degrees, and then you may think that's okay, because you don't use it at night when you are asleep,
      but the next day you want a warm tub again, so then the heater has to be on for hours, so you don't save a penny but pay even more.

    • @doug8715
      @doug8715 Před 6 lety +8

      You are going to pay more for electricity regardless when you own a hot tub. You just have to take that into consideration when you buy one. Figure out how much your electric company charges per kwh. Mine charges 0.06 cents. There are calculators online that can figure out the cost for you www.electricity-usage.com/Electricity-Usage-Calculator.aspx?Device=&Watts=1500&CostPerKWH=0.06&HoursPerDay=10. Yes I do not have mine running during the night, and I do have the heater set to kick on mid morning. I have it run for 10 hours a day and by mid afternoon the hot tub is up to 102-104 F which is where I like it. So for running the heater for 10 hours a day, it costs me $0.90 cents a day/$6.30 per week/$25.20 a month/$327.60 a year. I calculated this out prior to purchasing and YES that is a decent amount of money within a year, but for my family it is well worth it because we use it daily. Other people I know have actual hot tub spas that they paid thousands of dollars for and they said it cost them about $100 a month to heat their hot tub. So I think the Saluspa is worth it!

Do I then set the heat duration for 72 hours on a Tuesday so its ready on Friday and then the heat time 72 hours (as I want it on all weekend?) or is it better to set the timer daily? My other question would what happens when the timer isnt set, is the heater constantly working? appreciate any answers on a postcard, this is giving me a huge headache :)

    When the heater is on should the water going into the tub be very warm like your hot faucet in your house? I set the 1st time thingy to 4 hours the other at 0. It should heat for 4 hours starting instant and shut off at the end of 4 hours. I don't need the delay timer for anything.

  • @mhoward181
    @mhoward181 Před 4 lety +4

    Not sure but think this is how it may work. Let’s assume the water is cold as you have not used it for a few days. So temp is prob 15 deg. We know it will takes 12hrs aprox to reach 40deg from cold. My models does so test yours to see how long. if I want it hot for Saturday at 12pm. I would do this. Step 1. Select 12hrs. It will take this long to reach the temp we want. Then step 2 when do you want the heater to start. Well we want it hot for Saturday 12pm. So I want it to start Friday at midnight. This means you can programme the timmer from as early as Wednesday midnight. It only allows 0-24hrs advanced notice to activate.

      Don't know the answer for sure, but if it stayed on after, what would be the point of the first setting which is "how long should the heater stay on for?" So I assume it shuts off afterward. So after using (presumably after the timer is done) you'd need to set it again.

Anyone who buys a spa will want to normally heat it once per day, or at least get the pump running for an hour or so to keep chemicals distributed. But no ... Their spas will switch on once after you set it, and then after that one time, you have to go set the timer again!!!!! Quite incredible! My real worry now, is that if they could be that stupid with a simple timer, what could they have done with the electrics in general, and do i trust them not to electrocute me?

    I can’t increase the temperature past 28 degrees, every time i try to change it it instantly goes back to saying 28 again and won’t let me increase it

      Hi Hannah. Thank you for your question. When the temperature increase or decrease arrows are pressed on the pump this will show the desired temperature. After a few seconds it will then revert back to show the current actual temperature of the pool. On average a Lay-Z-Spa heats by 1.5-2°C/h (3-4°F/h) per hour. You should therefore see the actual temperature increase overtime should you have set the target temperature to 40°C for example. I hope this helps and kind regards, Ben :)

      @@Lay-Z-Spa-UK hi I have the Miami. Do I constantly leave the heater and pump on or do I turn off when finished as the next day would be cold water etc ..or what if I don't use for say 3 days do I turn off etc cause IV been told it takes ages to heat back up from cold I'm confused

    This timer is so confusing and not helpful. Like everyone says, it should heat for a specific time each day. Ugh. If you use an outside timer, the pool will reset every time. Oh well.

    Yup. What he said. (Nerf Boy). Stupid people can't even get a simple idea across clearly. Still experimenting, as I can't see anybody would make such a stupid arrangement. I must be wrong...

    Okay I think I get this.....
    The first one is how long the heater will remain on
    The second one is how long from now will the first time start
    So its 11pm, I want to the heater to turn on at 12am for 8 hours. First timer is 8 and the second is 1
    The purpose of this is for those who do not use the spa everyday... I have noticed just leaving it on one temperature and the heater to maintain it. The water is heated 8 hours out of 24. And that is for no one to use it
    Add that up for 5 days. Saying I use it on the weekends for conversations sake. That's 40hours of wasted energy
    Leaving the heater off the water temperature only drops so far (I live in the UK south and it sits at 25c in the summer with no heater) takes 8-10 hours to heat back up to 38c
    You now have just reduced 40 hours of heating down to 8 and at a time of night where electricity is cheaper
    That is the point of the feature

    Not sure this helps their brand - saying this is a timer is misleading and really unhelpful. Very poor.
