Lay-Z-Spa Pump - How to do a Thermal Reset

- This video shows how to do a thermal reset on your Lay-Z-Spa pump.
It is one of the suggested steps for solving the majority of heating issues and particularly for solving EO4, EO5 and EO8 error codes. For full details please check www.bestwayafte...
Here are the steps:
1. Turn the pump unit on at the mains.
2. Press the test button once and leave it bleeping (please ensure you leave it bleeping for at least 10 seconds).
3. Turn the pump unit off and unplug from the socket (please ensure you leave it unplugged for at least 10 seconds).
4. Plug the pump unit back in and turn it back on.
5. Press the thermal reset button using a pencil or screwdriver (see Owner’s Manual for location).
6. Once done, press the heater button. Your pump should now be working.
I can’t believe it but it worked (the first method) for a Coleman SaluSpa that I bought in the Summer of 2020. I had an E08 message every time I hit the circulation pump button, and your fix worked! Thanks so much!

Tried this procedure several times and I didn't work. Powered on the unit , then pressed the small black manual reset button on the side of the pump, then switched the water flow on and heater. This worked.

We just had spa filled turned on set temp and filtration kicked on then off cant get it to come back on? Any advice?

For me this E08 problem was that the unit was getting too hot in the direct sun. I unplugged it and put a cold wet white towel over the pump and the ridiculously huge black plug (that fits on absolutely no ones outdoor electrical box) and after a couple hours it fired right up. No resetting anything, just let it cool down.
Usually solves the issue for my saluspa e08 as well

Water @ 10'C and E04 beeping all the time. Reset button seems to be just a rubber plug without any button behind.
You are correct I have taken mine apart because a friend of mine gave me a pump of his and I have rebuilt it twice and that reset button does absolutely nothing it’s not even hooked up to anything

Got a Palm Springs hydrojet new filter installed everything cleaned, jets working then E02 coming up and when heater button pushed it cuts out any idea what’s wrong?
Both models on this you have two different models? When it says “test” button you press a button on the pump. Mine doesn’t have that. And at the end the model you show doesn’t have the test button? Any ideas
Used this method many times to fix any problems with my tub. Very simple.
Worked perfect
Normal problem is the water flow hall sensors pack up strip it down take out the sensors and glue magnets to them never have a problem again
Would there error code if the problem was the flow sensor? I have codes, but no heat.
My Hawaii tub never get hot
My spa shuts off whenever I turn the heater on. It worked great for a month. I’ve hit the reset button over and over. But the heater is what turns off the entire pump. I can’t find help anywhere.
Have you tried changing the filter? The filtration is switched on when you start heating, so if there's a slow water flow due to the filter being dirty the pump will switch off and need a restart

Same issue here, I hooked up a garden hose to the intake and turned on the faucet and pump. The heater was fine then, but after hooking it up, trips out. I removed the gfci plug and wired directly, but trips out my gfci circuit. Has to be some sort of flow issue.
Having this exact same issue. Ran on filter only for 4 hours to prove it wasn't a water leak causing the PRCD to trip out, heater on for 20 minutes and whole thing off. Thinking it could be calcification on the heater element but this would surely give an error code. Still awaiting reply from Bestway so will update here when they do.

I hv a Coleman jet spa, I just bought it, actually I bought it of the market plc online, instructions seem pretty simple, but I can’t get the filter/air pump to wrk, I can’t fill the hot tub
Cuz of the filter/air pump, my pump is similar to yours, mine is square shaped, yours is egg shape, but the set up wth your & mine is the same!!
I did everything I was supposed to & I was trying to fill it& for some reason the filter kicks on , but Whn I press the button to fill the hot tub with air, it won’t turn on!!

worked on our 2017 model using the screwdriver reset as our powere lead did not have the reset on it.
Mine gets to 28c and totally shuts down, trips out. I turn it off and on and it runs for 2 minutes then does the same again even after pressing that button

not working for my coleman salu spa - Ive tried everything. opened the bottom took apart motor and everything seems fine. cleaned my filters that were dirty and that usually works but not this time. Ive tried these steps multiple times including the rest buttons without luck. im getting ready to buy a new one and sell this one for parts.

What do I do when its on E03?
It means that the Water is too cold (under 4°C).
No errors but not heating. Brand new unit never used. Just wont heat. Im about to go try this method.

Mine is showing E08 all the time now. The pump is in the shade but it is 38c outside :( I hope it's not broken. The hottest time and we want to use the spa and we can't because E08 even after following the thermal reset/rcd reset etc.
Same for me, went thru reset process and it won't reset....anyone have ideas on what to do next?
I opened up my pump after trying this. The thermal reset button doesnt connect to anything...I just pushing a piece of rubber..no switch ...no appliance...nothing.
Update: removed gfi. Placed new gfi outlet 20amp. New standard plug to the unit power cord. Working without issue and still have safety check in place.

When and why would you want to do a thermal reset? I’m having some issues so just wondering if this could be why?

@@Lay-Z-Spa-UK I narrowed it down to the breaker is tripping when the heater kicks on. Other wise all the other functions work fine. Would a thermal reset help or probably needs a new heater?

I have a Tahiti salispa, bought it new 2020, no problems last year or this winter. Now pump won’t turn in (the power does, but hitting pump or heat does nothing, then you get error 02 which is low water flow cause there is no water flow.
I tried method 1 and 2 and trying with or without reset on cord vs reset on heater, nothing working. I’d love any suggestions.
Example: test, unplug, reset button, reset knob, then turn on and filter. Or just reset button or just knob, turn on power then try reset.
When I do test there is no beeping, it actually shuts off power to the spa. Hitting reset or unplug and plug it back in will turn it back on. Again I’ve tried without unplugging and with plugging it.
I hear 1 very slight tick when I hit the pump, then nothing.

@@PRICEY6996 I saw someone talk about turning the heater upside down, unscrewing stuff, then looking for a thin wooden thing (like a bamboo scewer / almost like a chopstick) and that replacing that would fix it. We never got around to doing it, wife and I are very not handy and weather started getting warming anyway so it became a "we'll do it tomorrow". I found a video talking about it, but it was hard to find.
I am having problems with my Pump heater after w while it cuts off and starts to bleep showing fault code 04 so I pulled the plug out waited 10 seconds then put plug back in still nothing what do you recommend

Just take the caps off the filter and clean them they are in the pool

Has anyone with the dummy reset button figured out a way to reset their spa? I have no error messages and everything else works as it should. But I get absolutely no heat.
Same. As soon as I try to turn up the heat my whole thing shuts off.
@@missjodygirl me too. The breaker actually trips when I go to activate the heat.
I have the same issue everything works no error codes but I set my heat to 104 and it doesn’t heat up or increase the heat
And only owned for a year and took good care of it

Our pump is fine the problem is it keeps heating above the temperature we set it at. Heater doesn't cut off.

As does ours. It is either to hot or drops to cold. It will not stay at the set temperature and this is with the lid on, not removing it.
Has any one got this figured out yett? your problems same as mine, overheated to 107 i shut it down to 102 and after a few hours it was 103/ perfect, go to use it today, its 100, should have kept the 102 temp for 48 hrs which is what i set it at. piece of crap, temp sttings never have been reliable on a constant badis.

That's not an error code, thats the power saving timer function. You can cancel is by cycling through the function or by pressing and holding the timer.

@@kerriedodd3894 no it was a fault and had to send it away to get fixed they "fixed" it 3 times each time I got it back it didn't work so they sent me a new one.

Yes it's been fine my trouble was I didn't know about the reset button on side of pump ( very small ) I was pushing wrong one you need a pencil to push it good luck

@@rachelbaldwin6887 is your button very wiggly? I just set up my hot tub and went to press the heat button for the first time and it keeps giving me the E08 error code. Then I tried to hit the filter button and it does the same thing. I tried to click the small black reset button on the side of my pump but its so loose in there I feel like im not pressing it. I tired using a pencil and a screwdriver.
@@angelafreudinger4595 Hi we bought our hot tub today and got the same error code as you E08, followed the pdf reset instructions but they didn't work as there was a thermal reset hole but there seemed to be no button inside when pressing with a pen/screwdriver. Hubby removed the top casing (only removing the middle screws) on the egg and there was a reset button but it was lower than the hole, he pressed the button and the pump came straight back to life with no error code. Hope this helps sorry for the essay lol

did you end up figure out how to use your reset button? I don't think mine is hooked up to anything. It is very wiggly and loose when I press it and nothing happens. I just set mine up and went to press the heat button and I cant get the E08 error code to go away.
@@angelafreudinger4595 Sorry, I did not. For me, it turned out my impeller self destructed and wasn't able to push enough water through to not trigger the flow sensor. Bought a very expensive replacement impeller from the UK (couldn't find anything in the US and coleman/lay-z-spa doesn't sell replacement parts *shakes fist*) but it did not fit right and was very noisy.
@@Dyn4sty22 I found impeller on amazon for $10 a year ago. it fit perfect. Look at the images and comments and you should be able to match it up.
My pump heater will not go higher than 19 degrees Celsius it just stops at 19

Have you tried putting a new filter in? I find them ridiculously sensitive once a bit dirty! Even cleaning them doesn't work!
hold the reset for 10 seconds ..worked for me...
So filter pump not working error code 02 I have followed all instructions after cleaning pipes and connectors and filter etc. Took off sensor and magnet part and taped together ,switched back on and error 01 so as per discussions on here I taped sensor length ways ,still not working and now have error code 04. Any ideas anyone
