- Another in my Hidden Layers of a Dress Video! It's a Get Ready With Me, except I also talk about the construction of this 1899-1809 (different sources say different things) Skirt, and Ballroom Bodice.
The original skirt was made by Callot Soeurs, a design house in Paris from the turn of the century, likely designed by Hector Guimard for his wife, Adeline Guimard.

I never would have guessed that the outer skirt has cutouts, based on those photographs! It looks gorgeous in motion.
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Malakai Deangelo instablaster ;)
@Enzo Kayson I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

@Malakai Deangelo Happy to help :D
I'm not often speechless, but, Oh my goodness! This made me cry. The beauty of the original design combined with your thoughtful, careful and loving recreation and revival is breathtaking. I truly hope you will be able to attend the Ball in 2021 and be able to bask in the glow of wearing this stunning gown.
Thank you so much!
"it may not turn out perfect but I'm sure you'll be much happier than if you didn't try"
Words to live by!!!
Beautiful words!
Lovely work on all of the dress! And that silhouette artist was shocking as he free handed your silhouette!! I actually gasped.
Thank you! The silhouettist is just such an inspiration - he also did my son which I loved.
@@Sewstine that is just precious!
You hit gold!! Thanks to the museum for their care and generosity!!
Your skirt and bodice turned out so well, absolutely gorgeous, and I love how your video shows that it is a process--you didn't just sit down and smash this out in one day, it took time and perseverance. Brava!
Thank you Carrie! I think it was a year on and off tbh!
@@Sewstine And ALOT of patience!
I love learning about how perople go about their various creative processes. This looks like a labour of love, and I adore the final outfit and photographs : )
Goodness, you're so incredibly talented and patient! The amount of work that went into this is insane! I adore anything Art Nouveau, no idea how this gorgeous skirt slipped past me, and here you bring back to life a whole outfit. Thank you for sharing your art with us!
Thank you! I love art nouveau so much and I have so many other ideas on other Edwardian art nouveau outfis I want to do.
This is, hands down, my favourite historical garment of all time. It's absolutely exquisite, and you did an absolutely perfect job in recreating it with so much care and detail!
This gown is EVERYTHING. I think I've never seen a more beautiful victorian ballgown.
The silhouette artist... how steady of a hand must you have to do that :O
I'm a simple woman... I see art nouveau, I click... loved how this came out!!!
It is stunning and I have no words for how impressed I am with you skill.
An absolute head turning gown - the sort of dress that would have envious admirers gossiping behind their fans as you confidently danced, socialised and gaily laughed the evening away 🥰
What an amazing outfit! I just found and repaired my great grandmother’s sewing machine that was built in 1892. It sees like a dream and I really want to start making historic outfits on it.
I sit in absolute amazement at your incredible skill and talent! Just WOW! I just want to listen to your wisdom and experience forever!
Amazing. Do you sleep? Otherwise I can't think how you can get all this done.
The skirt is amazing, the bodice is stunning, and I am amazed by your skill, patience and dedication! I think the cutouts help the skirt have that subtle, ethereal lightness and floatiness that works so wonderfully with your petite figure. I want to reach through the interwebs to pet the silk because it just looks so luxurious!
Thank you so much! I was on the fence about starting the cutouts but I really was shocked at how much they add! At the end, it doubled the work but I'm so glad I did it!
You did a beautiful job on both pieces. It think Edwardian is my favorite time period for fashion and jewelry. So lovely to see individuals keeping the grace and beauty alive. 🖤
Sewstine you look so beautiful in the silhouette & in the portrait.
I’m so glad you decided to invent a bodice! It came out amazing.
I "HOLY SH*T!"ed out loud when you revealed the bodice and the full dress for the first time.on this video. This dress is STUN. ING.
I'm in love! Art nouveau and belle epoque make me swoon.
Oh wow, my hats off to you! Beautiful skirt and complete outfit, smart of you to work on it at 15 minute intervals a day. Thinking to myself how much will it actually cost today to make that outfit. Thanks for sharing the experience!
Wow, just beautiful!
Stunning work, beautiful. Silhouette artist, really interesting and talented.
Wow! You are an amazing artist! This is beautiful! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️🇦🇺😎
the final result is SOOO gorgeous 😍 I LOOOVE it!!
I am so impressed that the museum shared those private photos with you!!!
Oh wow!!!!
Both for your amazing making skills and his unbelievable silhouette cutting skills.
This is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
THIS, this is my new favorite video of yours! I love hearing about both the history of the extent garment as well as the your process of making the dress. You’re so awesome for shouting out every single resource and person that helped you achieve the look. I freaking love this dress, and knowing the extra miles you went for makes me appreciate it even more. Thanks for sharing!!
I love that the museum cooperated with your requests! I think it makes sense, though... Most museum curators seem very interested in their pieces, so when a polite, interested person contacts them about their stuff I would think it's exciting. Especially when it's a request they can do. I know I'd be giddy!
Always my queeen! So gorgeous!
This is gorgeous! I love how thorough you are with your explanations. Your attention to detail is obviously incredible.
I really wish the costuming community would do more art nouveau clothing! It's my favorite!
Stunning. Absolutely stunning. Thank you for posting your artistic adventure.
That shot of you with your fluffy dog on the mustard colored sofa looked as if you could've had your portrait painted! So elegant!
You never cease to amaze!!! I love every part of this video
You look ethereal in the photoshoot at the end ❤
One of my dream historical outfits!! So awesome that you recreated it!!!
i am so inspired by your utter patience and your dedication to this dress!! it looks absolutely fantastic!!

I am gobsmacked at the level of craft this took.
I think this just took the lead for my ultimate wedding dress
So, so gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!

I watched through a lot of the progress on instagram as you were making it, but its amazing to see it move and all the construction. Such a beautiful piece, and i love your message at the end, that even if it doesn't work out, you’ll be happier just having tried :)
You look absolutely exquisite in that gown! Thankyou so much for sharing pictures of your stunning works of art here. Its really inspirational!
This is divine -- it makes me swoon.
Wonderful video - I love this dress. Art Nouveau is one of my favorite periods. Love The Silhouettist as well! I got mine done during a Zoom party and highly recommend him. Thanks so much for the way you describe things. I'm certainly not ready to start embroidering at this point in my sewing odyssey but the more I hear you talk about it the more I think I might want to do it. Can't wait to see what you make next.
OMG !!!!!!!! SO BEAUTIFUL. SO PERFECT WITH YOUR BOOTS. JUST LOVE THIS.
i lurk around art nouveau facebook groups and occasionally see lovely dresses and such but i just i havent heard mention of them outside of that context, so speaking of things that are really neat and totally underrepresented could i plant the idea in your head that youtube needs some gorgeous, informal and corset-less tea-gown content?
Oooh! That is a wonderful idea! I would love to make one just so I can lounge around it it!
Your work is SO beautiful, It still baffles my brain how you're able to embroider large areas and get the lines to match up perfectly! Just wondeful
I love everything about this skirt, both with the shirtwaist and the bodice. Stunning!
When I saw you wearing this skirt in someone's CoCo vlog I was so in love with it! I went hunting for you on instagram, I was like I must find this person I must know more about this amazing skirt! Thank you for making this more in-depth look at this amazing outfit, I would love to make myself a similar skirt one day.
Jaw-dropping GORGEOUS, and WOWSA, all the work you lovingly put into this outfit!!! 🤯🤯🤯👏👏👏😍
Oh this dress is stunning! I would die for it
I really love that in your passion for historical dress and recreating pieces that inspire you, you also take the time to collaborate with other artists such as corset makers and shoe designers, as well as photographers. They're really all the finishing touches and it's so nice to see professional photographs of your work along with these videos.
I know nothing about this type of fashion I just found out your channel a few weeks ago and I have to say I'm in awe of you and the time and dedication you have for this, it's impressive and very much inspirational
Such gorgeous work! Your creation process was fascinating to watch. And I love the fact that the museum was kind enough to send you photos. I would never have though to ask, but I'm sure it made the process much easier.
I'm obsessed with natural-waist era stuff. Great video

I adore Art Nouveau style so much so when I noticed this video I had to watch it and what a treat. You did an amazing job and look absolutely stunning in the skirt. The bodice is equally as beautiful and I am completely grateful that you shared this journey with the world. The photos of you in the bodice and gown taken by your friend are so perfect and I can see why she is your favorite photographer. Well done and you are definitely #winning the time during quarantine like a boss.
Your work is perfection! So beautiful and inspiring!
This outfit is so pretty! You did a fantastic job! 😻
Oh. My. Word. You are amazingly talented.
Stunning, brilliant, and so bad ass. Your son and dog are adorable too.
This is so beautiful! Especially the embroidery! As a fan of Alphonse Mucha, your embroidery looks wonderfully like his style in his illustrations/paintings.
Oooooo.... I will be watching this video many times... !
This is absolutely amazing! I so love that climate action sash. I need to make one of those!
