    when working on diesel engines we always keep something close that will block the air flow into the intake in case of a runaway situation. Never really thought about it with a 2 stroke but obviously not a bad idea. Good video

    Ever look an FMF Universal Turbine Core 2 spark arrested kit? the larger 1 1/4" for 500cc motor would slide over stinger and possible give more adjustment possibility...I recommend it for 87-90 LT owners. Really you needed a silencer made to fit though. I remember the pressure to finish the build before the riding trips though and the creative compromises that would just have to do despite how they looked.

    • @zepar221
      @zepar221 Před 2 lety

      You could also have turned / rotated the expansion chamber to make the stinger land outside the frame? Then make custom mounts. But I suspect at that point it would have interference with the fender...I rode mine without fenders once....lol

    • @jaegersracing
      @jaegersracing  Před 2 lety

      Very well-said! I can tell that you’ve definitely been around the block with the Quadracers! That’s a really good idea with the zilla silencer. They’re quite a bit longer, but I could always take some length off. Will definitely have to experiment a bit! Great input!

    • @zepar221

    • @zepar221
      @zepar221 Před 2 lety

      appears to be B8ES...I would start with lower heat range B9 and only go hotter if fouling plugs. But I never could run the ES plugs long and always had to use the OEM recommended expensive EV iridium tips to avoid untimely failures.

    • @jaegersracing
      @jaegersracing  Před 2 lety

      That’s a really good idea. Unfortunately the 1st gens won’t fit on the 3rd gen. Because the were meant to go in front of the shock as opposed to behind and the mounts and everything are all different.

  • @zepar221
    @zepar221 Před 2 lety

    Feel bad for your dieseling start up...but it seems like you knew better and have been there. Kill switch and pulling plug boot is not gonna help as I also found out. Best to up shift into a high gear and dump the clutch (preferably while holding the brakes) requires a shifter, chain on sprockets, clutch cable attached. Opening the full throttle like you did also works. And lastly I suspect if you had put your hand over that carb boot it might have choked it, so it could not pull more gas through the carb, but I never tried that trick. Waiting for the bowl to empty of gas is no fun...lol. Probably, lucky the stator cover was off. I used to put lapping compound on the shaft to lap the stator and mate it to it by rotating it by hand. The magneto flywheel spinning forever and sparking while traveling all over the garage was funny as hell though. Never seen that happen before!

    • @zepar221
      @zepar221 Před 2 lety

      At least the rings didnt fall off the piston and hopefully it's not to scored or melted in there ??? It would have ran richer with an oil filter attached to the carb. You can also get angled pod air filters that might clear your shock....

    • @jaegersracing
      @jaegersracing  Před 2 lety

      It was quite the experience haha! In a previous video, I was even talking about how you should properly prepare for the first start up by assuring your clutch lever/cable, shifter, chain, and brakes are all good to go because it’s the best way to kill it in the event of dieseling. Then I went and rushed a first start-up because I was out of time haha. Engine ended up being totally fine!

  • @josefrobbins8781
    @josefrobbins8781 Před 2 lety

    Oh yeah, loft tour! That QuadRacer hybrid build looks awesome. Oh, and that rear bumper is unheard of these days! Those were great if you're stuck uphill or downhill because you're grabbing from a lower center of gravity. As far as your exhaust situation, my dumbass on any other build would've put a foam tube filter out, and slip the sock over it for the dunes....but this is not an ordinary build, and deserves way better. That sucks not being able run that awesome air-box. I see an exterior exhaust re-route to snake around that frame in the near future.
    Also don't sweat it, even the best make mistakes. I've seen way worse happen and besides, no catastrophic failures like a seize, cracked piston, rod ejection, shrapnel, or missing fingers.
    Hope the dunes have been a blast, and that it all went smooth.

    • @jaegersracing
      @jaegersracing  Před 2 lety +1

      Really appreciate the comment! Yes, I plan to do some 1-on-1’s with some of the bikes in the future! Now that I’m back from the dunes, I’ll be able to give much more time and attention to getting the bikes dialed in. The airbox problem will get solved along with that!

    • @jaegersracing
      @jaegersracing  Před 2 lety

      It’s definitely not ideal. If I can’t get it sealed up and protected properly then I might get crafty with an old airbox and modify it to fit around the silencer. Running an open filter with an outer wears on it is common though.
