  • I know half of you love Rolex, and half of you (the more vocal half) hate Rolex... but in this video I share my thoughts of ownership of the Hulk over the past 6 months. What I love about the model, and if there are any drawbacks to wearing it. I hope you find it enjoyable and informative regardless of your feelings of the brand. Please reach out with any questions, and thank you for watching!

      In the fifty years I've been wearing Rolex watches, maybe a half a dozen times has anybody ever ask about it . 3 to 4 days a week I'm wearing my submariner, GMT , or day/date . 99%of people don't notice , or could care less what kind of watch you're wearing. I wear them because I absolutely love them . Beautifully designed, tough , and reliable while keeping excellent time . What more can you ask for in a watch . Just sayin' . Have a great day !!!

      @@timmanion7459 I had a white dial Baume & Mercier that got a lot of compliments. I bet a white or Sun-ray dial would be more likely to catch peoples eye. Although that doesn’t explain the attention my black Pelagos gets - it does have wrist presence at 42mm wide and 14mm thick

      @@scottc6946 Like I said , I've onky had a handful of people that I didn't know ever ask me about any of the Rolexs that I wear . I think the most questions I've had always pertain to my GMT pepsi, and that's because the 2 tone bezel piques their interest. My submariners or day/date seem to fly under the radar . I have a couple other watches people will ask about like my speedmaster panda . With the contrasting dial and the pushers , it seems to arouse curiosity. There's a few others that do as welk . Just not my rolexs . Haha , go figure , eh !?!?

    I think its great that you wear your watches. I do the same, I don't have a Rolex but I have some nice pieces. When the time comes for me to pass watches down to my son or grandsons I want it to show my life on it. I dont want to give them museum watches. I want my watches to reflect my life experiences. I find it a waste to buy something just to put it away for show and tell. Great video as always Bruce.

  • @PeteMcConvill
    @PeteMcConvill Před 3 lety +3

    Your opening lines in the description to the video are really interesting - the Rolex Brand is so powerful that its nightmarishly tricky to separate the feeling for the brand from your feeling for the watch. That obviously also comes through in the video where questions around this watch so often devolve into questions around availability, status, re-sale value etc. It was great to hear you tackle these head on and having dealt with them simply talk about why you love this watch as a watch and not a 'Rolex'.

  • @marky9223
    @marky9223 Před 3 lety +3

    I was nervous when I got my Explorer 2 and would kinda hide my wrist when I went out, but eventually I got comfortable with it and since then, no one has ever said a word about it. The only time I've ever had a conversation with a stranger about watches was when my company's new HR guy came into the office and was wearing the black bezel GMT Master II. I complimented his watch and he asked what I was wearing and we ended up talking about watches for about ten minutes, but other than that, whenever I've been wearing a Rolex, Omega or even Panerai, it's always gone unnoticed.

      It is hard to actually tell what sort of watch a person is wearing unless you can actually see the details. I wear a Patek when I am on business and only rarely do people talk about it and it tends to be another person with a watch.

    Nice video man, I have an even tinier nick next to the drilled lugs that I got while putting the bracelet back on which ever so slightly disturbs the line of reflection on my seiko mm200. No one will ever notice it but me, and it's a tiny flaw, but still it bugs me so much more than it reasonably should, like you said, it hurts a little bit.

    Bruce love the video. But truthfully....it does feel good to own a watch that hit the '2ndary market jackpot'!!! How would you feel if the watch took a 50% value hit from retail value? I'm not sure that you would feel the same as you feel now....that's my 2 cents. The market hype 'makes the watch' and drives up the perceived value.That's a fact. Please tell us the truth!!! Other Rolex models offer much more bang for buck (GMT Master, SkyDweller)

    Hi Bruce. No trolling honest. All things being equal how much do you think that just the fact that it's a Rolex affects your emotional relationship with the watch and your enjoyment of wearing it. Do you think you can ever disassociate the watch from the brand and see a Rolex just as the watch itself. Exact same watch but different brand would you feel the same about it?

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 Před 3 lety

      Rolex is not like many of the other watches out there. The only brands that is similar to Rolex are Patek and Audemars Piguet
      in that they are privately owned companies that are in complete control of their product.
      There are not many brands out there that have kept their traditional watchmaking completely. There are handmade microbrands but they are very hard to come by.
      All of the traditional watches are expensive for a reason.

    Finally an honest opinion, i have been wearing Rolex for 15 years, and i had maybe 2-3 comments in whole, this idea that you can't wear Rolex you need something that fly below the radar etc. it's just nonsense.

      Yep, because why would we ask someone about this watch?! Everyone knows this design and the brand... you see it sooooo often. It‘s like driving a Porsche. Where I live they are so common it‘s not even special.. drive a jag f-type and everyone is turning heads. That‘s why rolex ain’t special to me... but I still like them a lot!

    Did you wear the Zeppelin shirt because you were going to Ramble On? lol
    Interesting perspective, and very down to earth, as much as one can be when discussing luxury watches. As another commenter mentioned, would you feel the same if the watch had "lost" $7K in value over the last six months?
    For me the value of the watch is my enjoyment, and I couldn't care less if it was worth nothing on the secondary market.

    This green looks fine with most attire, as its that green, hard to find elsewhere. The virus might change the Rolex hype pricewise. The bug stays, people do change their mind, focus on non hype or generally become realistic. Just in case y decide to sell, which y wont as y say. Nice video, tks.

    I say it all the time. There are only two persons that care about what you are wearing. The first person is yourself. The second person is the thief who's getting ready to rob your ass. Everybody else don't give a fuck what you are wearing.

    i dont give a damn about a name...i care about what my brain thinks looks great. And i just cant even fathom how a watch could cost $10000 or more, unless its made of highly precious materials and stones, then MAYBE. But it just seems ridiculous the price gap between a "regular" watch and a luxury watch. Like, what exactly am i getting more for say $20k?

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 Před 3 lety

      The reason you cannot fathom it is down to the fact you do not really understand value. Modern society is a throw away culture were people only keep products for a few years.
      Mechanical watches made by Rolex are of a high quality that will last years. Rolex is one of a handful of traditional products remaining that is not part of the throw away culture. Good quality craft products such as watches, cars, suits, jewelry, furniture and so on cost several thousand.
