I saw an absolutely lovely "Hulk" in an authorised dealers in 2011. Then it was priced at just over £5,000 new. I had the money at the time, and sorely regret not getting it.

I love the Hulk, I think the green is amazing. I do not like Kermit. The hulk can look at different colors depending on how the light hits it but I do not like what people are selling them for. Way over list price. It is just a sub but the Green dial and Bezel is awesome color combo. Thanks for the video.

i have just discovered your videos, thank you for the content. Ive been buying watches since the 70s and still enjoying it. And youre right about the belittling n arguing online. I just joined a Steinhart fan page on facebook. Posted my first pic the following day, it took just that long for someone to pop up and get bent out of shape about a simple post. I blocked him and left the group. Ridiculous. Done with all that. Thanks again, going back to watch several more of your videos, you rock....

I love green. My favorite color in general. The dial is gorgeous. But I’ve always felt unconvinced by colored ceramic bezels. There’s something milky about the color, something off. I always prefer the anodized color of aluminum bezels when there’s a color involved. I think this Rolex would be perfection if it had a black ceramic bezel with that green sunburst dial. Other than that, lets get more German watch brand reviews TGV!

TGV or others on the channel: my father-in-law just showed me an ancient Rolex DateJust in yellow gold. I'm guessing 1950-1970, as it was his grandfather's watch (he worked on a train line, so I'm sure it was a necessity for the job). It has an "accordion" expansion bracelet, and cyclops eye, but I can't seem to find an example online to figure out the reference #. Is there a good, reputable place I could ask about this, and to do refurbishment on the watch? It's actually so old that the glue holding the hour makers on has disintegrated so some of them have fallen off the watch! Still runs though.... wow.

No doubt a true gem of a watch. TGV your camera work around the dial and bezel did excite me so much, I do see the Hulk as a great fun version and I can only imagine how much fun and joy owning one could bring. Contrary to your thoughts, I feel the bezel tone compliments the lustre of the dial. However, with the choice available and all prices considered, I'm not sure i would pick this over other iterations on offer. If fun was the name of the game, maybe a 11613 blue dial bicolour or the black dial version would trump it??? Great show TGV and man that intro, you nearly had me in tears

British Racing Green originated in 1903. Racing was illegal in England at the time, so when the Gordon Bennet Cup was held in Ireland that year, British cars were painted green as a show of respect to Ireland for letting them race. The dark shade of forest green later became synonymous with British racing cars and was named British Racing Green.

Great review and even greater intro! Well done! When I first saw the "Hulk" in pictures and videos, I just was not attracted to it. That was the case for a couple of years. However, when I saw one in the metal, wow! I still don't understand up to now what happened but I was hooked right then and there! Ironic because I didn't even like the color green. It's such a cliche but really, pictures and videos don't do the green sub justice. It's perfect as a second or third watch but not for the one watch guy. Cheers!

The ultimate hype watch. You could get these for a discount at ADs prior to the craze. I prefer it to the Kermit, as I'm not a big fan of the Kermit green.
Always remind yourself, would you really buy this watch if it was pretty easily available at ADs? The answer was no for a lot of people and then became yes when it became hard to get. People are buying Rolex models because they are hard to get, not necessarily because they love the actual watch. This hype has fueled more hype and thus AD displays are empty.
I've handled almost every modern Rolex and it is laughable how much some sell for. At list, they are expensive but still fantastic watches. At the grey market prices, many models are punching way above their weight. I've got a 16710 and Milgauss Z-Blue. Plan on getting a JC to complete my trio. All 3 watches standout for the right reasons. 16710 is the pinnacle of the GMT in my opinion, the Milgauss Z-Blue is the most aesthetically ambitious and unique watch they have produced on a semi-mass scale, and the JC is a technological marvel with one of the greatest dials ever made.
Bias aside, if the cyclops and size doesn't bother you the SD43 is probably the best watch Rolex produce today.

How nice to remind us of William Blake.
He, too, wasn't receiving the appreciation of contemporaries as I he could have been, perhaps due to his eccentric nature - him claiming to be accompanied by visions of Angels from his early life onwards.
And a somewhat sophisticated idea to use this hint of rejection to reflect the what "the Hulk" does experience from many people, all in combination with the more obivous reference to "green pastures", even if the first might have been accidental - I love it.

your right about it looking so much better than pictures, i was lucky enough to pick one up at a AD recently and cant take it off. The dial to me is more often black than green unless under direct light (which i love giving it an infrequent zing) but generally its relatively toned down with a subdued black face look, so for my wardrobe matching its not really an issue and or i just love the watch making a bit more of a fashion statement.

Admittedly, since I first saw it, I've occasionally wondered if Rolex was just pandering to base fashion appeal( "Ducati's are always better in red!"(?!)….as it's hardly groundbreaking of them....and if that really matters. This watch has become a fantastic way to honor her, as well as her tenacity for education and her ability to overcome everything she has.
This watch is my holy grail of watches.

Nice review, TGV. It's definitely a cool watch with a high marmite level. Personally I would take the safe route and opt for the standard black dial Submariner.
Looking forward to the next one.
    Regards,
    Koen

Probably my favorite submariner would have to be the 116613LN, something about a two-tone sub just looks right, though i have to say that inverse kermit rendition looked amazing, or maybe something like that with a blue sunburst & black bezel - now that would be the ultimate!
Great video as always, can you do one on the Yachtmaster? I feel it definitely deserves more love, especially considering it almost replaced the submariner before it was released

    Hi TGV
Yes, it is an acquired taste. On the other hand; I would be willing to change my wardrobe to match this watch. Off cause the black version is the safe choice but this one is just as classic on its own terms. Really like that attitude. A classic (-and classy) brand like Rolex doesn’t have to do much to raise an uproar amongst followers...
I do like the Hulk’s color scheme better but do agree with you preferring the more elegant case design of the older models, such as the Kermit model.
    Keep up the good work👍

Hello TGV, I'm wondering if the green color may have any connection with the classic Wimbledon tennis tournament. Rolex being the official timekeeper of the tournament since '78 and of course, the colors of green, white and purple are all represented in the tradition. The lawn green color representing the grass courts. The legendary Bjorn Borg, in fact, wore a '56 gold Oyster Perpetual Day Date with a green dial and black leather band. Just food for thought.

@@theurbangentry Wow, quick reply. Thanks TGV. I've been hooked on your videos since my colleague introduced me to them a few months ago. It renewed my love of watches after wearing an Apple Watch for several years. I'll have to thank my old English Lit professor for what knowledge of 19th century British poetry I do have. He actually owned a few original Blake illuminations and was nice enough to share them with his students. Best!

I’ve got a Casio GShock GW-M5610 with negative display and while the display looks great in direct light, at certain angles and in darker conditions it is virtually unreadable without activating the backlight. I wonder if this model is the same?

Weren't the first divers that were made in the 1960s 36mm? They weren't concerned with that size being illegible then.

That reverse Kermit rendering looked really great IMO. And might make for a fitting replacement of the Hulk combined with the latest 3235 movement, if it is ultimately discontinued.

I love green watches, and I deed the colour In general. Sadly the Hulk is beyond my current means, so I opted for a current Seiko in this same colour scale. I'm glad that more brands are introducing green in their finish options.

I dont understand this watch. I feel like it wouldnt be so popular if it wasnt impossible to get. Green goes with nothing, theres better watches for the money, and theres other subs in other colors. So why be obsessed with green?
