Daniel Dumile (pronounced /duːməleɪ/) is a British-born American hip hop artist who has taken on several stage names in his career, most notably MF DOOM (also known as DOOM) , where the "MF" stands for Metal Face or Metal Fingers. He has appeared in several collaborative projects such as Danger Doom (with Danger Mouse) and Madvillain (with Madlib).
Dumile was born on January 9, 1971 in London, England, the son of a Trinidadian mother and Zimbabwean father. He then moved with his family to New York and was raised on Long Island, New York.
As Zev Love X, he formed the group KMD with his younger brother DJ Subroc and another MC called Onyx the Birthstone Kid.[1] A&R rep Dante Ross learned of KMD from the hip hop group 3rd Bass, and signed the group to Elektra Records.
Dumile and KMD's recorded debut came on 3rd Bass's song "The Gas Face" from The Cactus Album, followed in 1991 with KMD's album Mr. Hood, which became a minor hit through its singles "Peachfuzz," "Who Me?" and heavy video play on cable TV's Yo! MTV Raps and Rap City.
Subroc was struck and killed by a car in 1993 while attempting to cross a Long Island expressway before the release of a second KMD album, titled Black Bastards. The group was subsequently dropped from Elektra Records that same week. Before the release of the album, it was shelved due to controversy over the its cover art, which featured a cartoon of a stereotypical pickaninny or sambo character being hanged from the gallows.
With the loss of his brother, Dumile retreated from the hip-hop scene from 1994 to 1997. He testifies to disillusionment and depression, living "damn near homeless, walking the streets of Manhattan, sleeping on benches." In the late 1990s, he left New York City and settled in Atlanta. According to interviews with Doom, he was also "recovering from his wounds" and swearing revenge "against the industry that so badly deformed him." Black Bastards had become bootlegged at the time, leading to Doom's rise in the underground hip-hop world.
In 1998, Dumile began freestyling incognito at open-mic events at the Nuyorican Poets Café in Manhattan, obscuring his face by putting a stocking over his head. He meanwhile had taken on a new identity, MF Doom, (Inspired by his good friend MF Grimm) patterned after and wearing a mask similar to that of Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom. He wears this mask while performing and isn't photographed without it, except for very short glimpses in videos such as Viktor Vaughn's "Mr. Clean," "Question," and in earlier photos with KMD. MF Doom's mask has undergone at least one design revision since its adoption.

This man experienced things that would’ve broken the average emcee. Any other person would be working at some 9-5 explaining how the music industry chewed them up and spit them out. But not this guy. He took the pain he experienced and channeled it to become one of the dopest to ever touch the mic. He went from a mild mannered, but nice rapper, Zeb Love X, to an emcee with superpowers. It really is some comic book shit.
Well said ..yeah he was unique in the game no one can come close
@@xzee4068 The world lost the greatest Villain it'll ever know.

I’ve been blasting the first two KMD albums lately. It’s like a mesh of tribe and de lab soul and leaders of the new school. They’re in that class of MCs. His back story is ill
I love your comment. I read it as DOOM was was doing laundry and looking at veggies at the Bodega. I was thinking the same exact thing - he is like like meteor dust circling around us - super rare, created by God, chance... just a once in a billion years happy accident. Every so often when the wind blows we become aware that there is something bigger than us and it is profound.
Greatest rapper alive idc what anyone says

I don't know why, every time MF DOOM sings it gives me nostalgia. Something about it

🥺 bro. I miss him every single day. His rhymes. I'll have them with me until my death.
MF DOOM passed away on the same day 10/31 as my father 3 years later. I remember listening to DOOM as my pops would drive me to school and sports events. I miss them both.
They still exist here and everywhere. Never forget

This man's loss is equivalent to the loss of Kobe and Chadwick, devastating! Brothers energy never seemed to age, I've been a fan since KMD. Never gonna be another like bruh yo! R.I.P. KING
Dont compare a rapist to the illest villain DOOM
@iwtdkmp5081 yeah fr. Kobe's death made people view him way more positively than be deserves.
The left screen is black and white shows DOOM going to the outdoor market and stealing goods, the screen is black and white which might indicate something negative meanwhile the right shows DOOM returning the stolen goods to a colored (positive) video, just a thought.
Joel Holmqvist Sounds pretty accurate to me :))
Or the black and white represents the past
GZA 69 likes nice
Might be a reference to momento.
The black and white footage is "backwards"; not in terms of chronology, but of theme.
It would indicate that he's not actually an out-and-out thief, but he's actually charitable - like Robin Hood.
@brandotendie when they were filming this music video and he’s running away, the manager of the little market thought he was actually stealing them so he ran after DOOM
" I WILL ROCK THIS MICROPHONE, AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLWWWWWWWAAAAAAYYYSSSSS!!!!!!!!" - MF DOOM (REST EASY DOOM, your influence had a major impact, and you move the hip hop culture, Thank you)

This song never gets old... Raw
Nope, the song, the video, none of it. Long live Doom. He won’t be associated with the character, the character will be associated with him.
I return to it every six months. I played this video for my mother after she asked me what I was listening to. She loves the concept, then I explained that was his wife who snatched him into the house at the end.
he truly rocked the microphone
Simply put - The Greatest Artist in the History of Hip Hop. I've been with hip hop since it started, NO ONE else has been the level of mc AND producer as Daniel Dumile. Safe travels Villian. Thanks for stopping by
"Remember him God, cleaned Tim's with emery board / And only came to save the game like a memory card" - The Drop
"Make your local police worry monthly/ And won't be nowheres nears ya country..." "Banished"
While I personally agree with you that DOOM is one of the greatest hip hop artist and truest b-boys ever, I would put RZA up there too. I think DOOM has an edge in rapping but RZA production catalog is unmatched. Both their impacts are so incredible. It’s cool how their careers run so parallel too, from having an early start and then completely reinventing themselves.
I will rock this microphone ALLLLWAAAAAYYYSSSS

best rapper that ever walked the earth for real
How I discovered DOOM. One Saturday afternoon I walked into 2nd ave record store & asked the man behind the counter if they had an album by a fella named Quasimoto and Lord behold they did. I did a back flip & bought that shit. That same man told me that if I like Quasimoto then I should buy this album called Operation Doomsday. Being a Fantastic Four fan and a comic book geek I bought it without even listening to it first because my thinking was if some rapper is going to call himself MF DOOM and wear a metal face mask it's got to be good. That day when I got home I threw it on the turntable and give it a listen I was blown away & instantly became a mutha fucking metal fingers fan. Now I remember all caps when you spell the man's name.
I will forever love this beat. So elegant and smooth.
this was the one that hooked me. Been a fan ever since. RIP DOOM
THAT BEAT !!!
Those 🎻🎻🎻 are crazy as fuxk! Put me in trance. Dope!

Ooh, you're like the sun
Chasing all of the rain away
When you come around, you bring brighter days
She told me, you're the perfect one
Me and you forever will be
He told her, I will rock this microphone always!
I hold the mic, like niggaz hold their girls tight
But I ain't after her, probably your Acura pearl white
The hooker? Nah, as many times as I done hit it?
To be specific more times than dimes in a briz-nick
When you broke North, I crashed the barbecue like Riddick
At the Garden, true, that's the god in me, pardon you
Jeepers! I was torn back, the hoe gained access to my beeper
Call back my secretary gatekeeper
Like I ain't peep her, I said, "Darling you was stupid though
You know the Super Villain hoe!"
I had this style ever since I was a child
I got this other style I ain't flip in a while, it goes:
Pure scientific intelligence, with one point of relevance
MC's whose styles need Vellamints
And once the smoke clears, tell 'em it's
The Super motherfucking Villain, nigga came through raw like the elements
On 99 plus one of them
And with a flow to pull a fraud nigga file from out in front of him
When we with y'all, we had tons of fun
Me and my duns and them
Actual true and living sons of them
Dead planets and God-you's
Throwing divine rules to come through, we will over charge you's
Fool, and won't feel remorse for shit
Except for one time, once I had took my fronts out and lost them shits
Scientific gone bezerk like Red Alert
I really wanted to pick up was [?] for cheddar dirt
The funniest experiments is where I went
Obviously dead bent, and spent every red cent
To rule you, and still drop more jewels than schools do
Or even TV news that's designed to fool you (who?)
Yeah you, who hear the most grimy suggestions
From brothers with fly names and I.D. questions
That's a Secret like Victoria teddy sets that's edible
Them's not ready yet for the incredible
Team of MC's who broke off fakes
Who thought they were slaughta proof
Stomping through like North Face waterproof
Tat-tat, at the end of that
After hit the bar where baby girl bartender at
I told her more wine, mingling with no single mentions of
Stay tuned for more spine tingling adventures of

one of the greatest hip hop videos of all time, it's obscene there isn't a better quality vid
Lol just realized. Madvillain is basically the Phantom of the Opera of hip-hop. A legend walking around d in a mask. Haha Much respect. One of the best lyricist of these days.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
He wears the mask to portray one of his many altar ego's. MF DOOM is just one of many characters he plays.
He is hip hop's villain, he hides his face the same any criminal would.
The concept is taken straight from comic book stories such as the fantastic 4, captain america etc etc.
He's not some heartbroken fool cursed to haunt hip hop.
He's a bad guy, the crook...and so the mask
@@grindsupplycoskateboarding1626 from the stand point of the character ”DOOM” this is true, Daniel though started wearing the mask because he thought that there was this trend going on in hiphop were the music and sound wasn’t the thing that was the main focus anymore. Instead it was the person, the clothes, the brand etc. that the industry was pushing (industry trying to sell the person and not the art). He wanted to show that what matters is the music, all the other stuff is irrelevant to the art that is hiphop.
@@brollebrolin6353 Well explained, much props
@@grindsupplycoskateboarding1626 DOOM said in his exact words he intended to be the Phantom of the Opera of rap but also we all know he is known to don many masks and alter egos such as Vaudeville Villain, King Geedorah, Metal Fingers, etc..
