I'm African that grew up in Africa. Back in the day, we supported the Chicago bulls because we liked M.J so much. Guess what? We had never watched neither the bulls or M.J play. We just knew that there M.J in America and he is very very good. That's how great he was. Fast forward to 2022, we now have access to the internet, google, Supersport, etc. But still, a lot of people don't know Lebron. M.J was just Great Great Great. Like the Greastest.

The main argument is that the game has evolved so much since 98.
Jordan in his Prime in THIS League? He averages 43-45 for the season, no question. There has never been someone so feared and respected at the same time to the point other players knew not to talk s**t to him because they didn’t want to end on Sportscenter the next day as the guy who let MJ get 50-60 on them.
Dominant, masterful awareness of the court, excellent defensive player, plus the guy could palm the ball. Plus that Fadeaway Jumper is still impossible to stop. MJ = The Greatest Player on the Planet.
Lebron is guaranteed his HOF spot. What’s he’s been able to do in the league since Kobe left is incredible but he never had that fear from those around him like MJ had.

People seem to forget the way Jordan beefed up in the off season that one year because the Pistons played bully ball against them, he came back like 15+ lbs and dominated. That was legendary how he did that and never looked back after. He faced more adversity than any of these other guys that shouldn't be in the conversation. It's MJ and then you can debate about everybody else after that.

Jordan didn't leave any doubts. In the playoffs & finals Jordan always had the solution he was never shut down or stagnated. Jordan shut the iron curtain at the buzzer & closed all the shows on the big stage. There's nothin more someone can do to be greater except win more without losing. Especially the losing in the finals is not up discussion in the goat conversation. Jordan set that standard 6 trips 6 ,6 wins. If you are comparing only 2 players MJ and Lebron then MJ would be the GOAT but I have a big problem with him being called the GOAT if you count all the greats from all the eras. First you can not compare a shooting guard from the late 80s and 90s to a center from the 60s. Second depends on what metric you are using because I know MJ fans have their stats to show he is but there are stats that show he isn’t. If you try rings then Bill Russell with 11 rings in 13 years easily beats MJ with 6 rings in 15 years- in fact the fact he never missed the playoffs and made it to the finals 12 out of 13 years is also better than MJ- if you go with records then nobody is even close to Wilt. The fact MJ has awards that didn’t exist when Wilt and Russell played can’t be held against Wilt and Russell because you can not win awards that don’t exist. I know he was 6-0 in the finals but the fact that he was 0-6 against Larry Bird’s Celtics in the playoffs seems lost on MJ fans. Does that mean Bird was better? Winning in the playoffs and the finals is a team accomplishment but if Jordan gets all the credit for going 6-0 in the finals then he should get the blame for being 0-6 against Bird. All MJ being 6-0 in the finals says is that he wasn’t good enough to make it to the finals 9 years of his career.

The league was dying with the weak era after Wilt retired and before Magic and Bird. Magic and Bird basically saved the NBA and MJ did expand from there. I believe that MJ may not of been able to do that if Magic and Bird didn’t save the league in the first place. I believe all three were responsible for the league getting where it did and Lebron is responsible for the downturn of the league.

Just like baseball, hockey and soccer they are required to play both in order to stay on the team. Even though it's a sport, the players job is to perform at all times on the court or field. I knew before he won a Championship how important he was to the NBA. I along with Wilt said that that the league should also pay Mike because of what he brought to the table.

what i hear is that it is difficult for players to fully articulate why Jordan is so great but for those old enough to have watched him and the current generation it really comes down primarily to mentality and his will. everything was built off of that. he even said it himself, everyone thinks it's his physicals gifts, his large hands, etc. but there are more athletic people who can jump higher, run faster, that aren't even in the NBA. just look at the dunk academy and what ridiculous things those guys are doing. they can't play in the nba let alone succeed in the way jordan did. his drive, his will, his competitiveness and the hard work and thousands of hours he put in, led to what he accomplished. that is why all players are in awe of jordan to this day.

In 2019, a players poll went 73 percent for Jordan and 12 percent for Lebron. In 2023, it went 59% for Jordan to 33% for Lebron. Lebron could be called the biggest loser. Has a losing record of 22-33 in finals games and lost 6 of 10 finals. In 11 healthy seasons in Cleveland, Lebron won only 1 championship. In 11 healthy seasons in Chicago, Jordan won 6. He still trails Jordan by a monumental difference to make up: 2 championships. 2 Finals MVPs, 1 DFPY, 1 MVP, 4X all defense, 9X PPG and 3X steals. In the Jxmy Highroller piece "Asking Over 100 NBA Players Who the GOAT is, 80 picked Jordan and 30 picked Lebron. In the video "23 teammates of Lebron and Jordan pick the GOAT", 18 of 23 picked Jordan. Most stars don’t put Lebron in their team of 5 to win a championship. So how can he be in the same tier as Jordan? In Johnny Arnett's video of the greatest players of all time by their peak, Lebron comes in at seventh. Jordan never choked, was a much better defender (perhaps best in the league), a better free point thrower, actually had a mid-range shot, and played in a more difficult era. Jordan had the greatest vertical leap of all time and the biggest hands of any top 5 player. Lebron is almost never clutch as well, going 0-7 in the last 10 seconds of finals games while Jordan is 4 of 8. Jordan also blows him away in the final 24 seconds. LeBron isn’t even better than Kobe. Lebron was swept by Spurs team 07. Kobe beat them in ‘08 4-1. Lebron lost to Magic in ‘09 ECF 4-2. Kobe beat them 4-1. Lebron lost to the Celtics in ‘10 ECSF 4-2. Kobe beat the same team in 2010 4-3. Above all else, Lebron doesn’t pass the eye test. Only Jordan, Kobe, and Dr. J do this in magical form. Who cares about statistics if no one wants to watch you play? I wouldn’t pay to watch Lebron or Kareem play unless I want to eat and sleep in the arena.

MJ & Kobe would completely take the other teams best player out of the game when defending them if they wanted to. So, I'd have to go with MJ all day. But, that's only because nobody talks about the man who holds the most records, Wilt. He could dominate a game at a whole other level. Kind of strange he doesn't get mentioned. Nobody ever scored 100 pts in a game, avg. 50 a game along with 25 rebounds and then just prove how great he was he then led the league in assists once or twice.
