    Too true about retiring your knots on jigs. Especially a jig you like that has caught fish. Saw one of my favorite jigs (jri 3 mint) go flying off into the horizon. That jig gave me some good fish the last 3 years. Havnt fished my dws jigs but might this year on my original jigstick. Seeker black steel 270h with a shimano tld star 15/30 lined up with #30 mono.

    I was doing some fast jigging with a GoMexus 450 but i didn't have a light slim jigging rod, it was just a reg medium action star rod. Anyways the weight of this rod was really making wrist tired and was jigging my rod gradually slower with each cast. Anyways i was reeling slow enough that i could start to see my jig near the surface about 20ft away. Was about a 5-6in jig, slim/medium build, I was paying attention to the action of the jig and i seen this cute little bait fish literally NO BIGGER than the jig itself chasing my jig down as i reeled it in🤣🤣
    Im not exactly sure how that little baitfish thought he was going to eat my jig if he caught it, (with him and the jig about identical in size) but it was just the funniest/cutest thing u ever saw lol
    Still thinking about that scenario on the way home how that little bait fish thought he was going to devour a jig the same size if not bigger than him I started to think maybe he wasn't chasing him to eat them maybe he was chasing The jig because he thought it was one of his little bait fish friends since he was the exact same size and looked similar as well maybe he was chasing after him wanting to tell him when he caught up to him "hey! you're going the wrong way where are you going dude??" And after he couldn't catch him he would go back to all the real bait fish and say that new guys weird he just swims back and forth all day. I think hes a little slow😅😅🤣

    Good video. I just stumbled on it. Appreciate the lessons.
    I have a newbie question: Does it matter as far as light conditions whether a jig would be appropriate vs live bait? I have heard from a few that jigs are more effective in sunny/brighter conditions once the fog lifts.
    Again, good tutorials!

      @@spottedbaybass619 Good question! Here’s what Danny said: In my experience weather the sun is out or if it’s overcast it doesn’t really matter. The key is watching what the fish are doing and if the current is running and if the water is somewhat clean and warm. Also you as the angler have to make your jig swim in a manner appealing to the fish.
      Glad you enjoyed the video!

    1 thought doesn’t always hafta be a light jig I loved the Ironman #5 and 6x Jr on the surface more than a 45 light also let the heavier jig further distance and able to use an Avet lever instead of a star drag same distance if not better sink n crank more universal and you only need 1 size jig instead of light jigs n heavy jigs just gotta find that sweet spot with a heavier jig

    Good stuff gents. As an addendum, is it possible to record what a good swimming jig looks like to DW on the water and also demonstrate what he means “to make the jig swim” ? Thanks in advance

    The iron jigs you're showing, do you need to upgrade the hooks on these too? If so, recommendation?

      Nope! Usually they are quality for the grade of fish you’re catching.

      Showing them this video is a good start! That’s what we were hoping for with it. We go over footage of casting and different things to think about at the end of this video - that part might be particularly helpful.

    Question::
    I have yet to buy a set up and I’m looking for one but I was thinking of using a tranx500 would that be ok!,?

    • @FishTheLegend
      @FishTheLegend  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Tranx is a good entry reel to get more comfortable casting. A Trinidad would do a better job for surface iron tho. Or even a torium

      That's not a Legend problem. It's a SPORT BOAT/MONEY problem... I fish and freedive as well. NEVER jumped in on a paddy that had a boat on it, BUT when I find my own, the sport boats, pull right in and start yelling at ME. This is not a new problem-- I get it because I've worked on sport boats and captained 6 packs. I see it from both sides, but private boaters get hosed ALL THE TIME by these big sporties and it's LAME. I've had jigs thrown at me in the water at the Islands-- sinkers-- add in the all the big BFT that have shown up the past 5 years or so-- forget it. Anyway, Danny IS a legend. The best there is on the plug.
