We'll have to hook it up with some Major Craft Tungsten jigs to add into the mix
Braid floats. You can have braid as a backing with several yards of mono with like four feet of floro as your leader. The difference is that your bait will typically swim deeper.
Have to disagree here, rods are not designed for use on rail, especially with drag pinned. Stand up, be a man!
Beautiful save!
I have had the same experience on another boat and the crew was amazing to help me out
Thanks for this great tutorial!
@@ricardoallende2597 glad you found it helpful!
First, congratulations Captain Steve & Catalina! Second, the Legend has such a great crew, they are so impressive when things start getting crazy on hots bites and great the rest of the time too!
@@TylerKTanaka thank you!!
Epic action!
@@Hook2Cook definitely!
Straight PROFESSIONAL crew on the Legend... Talking about assist hooks, what size assist hooks do you recommend?
@@ericr1382 They vary by brand. Hard to go too big but usually 5/0 and up. Bigger the better usually. Nothing wrong with a good single hook like a jobu or a 7691 either!
see you on the 31st. I'm both excited and terrified lol !!!

Will you guys be adding more trips for first couple weeks in august ?

We have been applied rotten the last 9 years..amazing
Absolutely!!
Great video. How long of a topshot are you using?
My goodness, these are great quality . Yep, we need to get out there soon
Definitely some fun fishing!!
I'm the guy who got tangled in the sonar and I want to compliment Steve, Mat, Josh, Kegan and Alex for the awesome job they did getting us on the fish and helping us get them in. Best crew and boat ever!!!!
So glad you had a great experience!! We’re happy to help.
You definitely had the right crew. They are very solid
How big was the fish on the spliced rod?
@@zackdavis1141 around 130
@FishTheLegend it weighed in at 172lb at the dock with gill and guts removed. Estimate of fish is 200lb
THIS IS THE BEST TRIP FOR ME.
That’s awesome to hear!!!
Thanks for sharing👍
Glad you liked the video!
That’s why you guys are the best 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼
Just happy to help our fishermen!
Great vid. See y’all tomorrow!

Nice job guys

One of theses days IL be there to fish with yall 😅😅😅😅😅
Yall did a fantastic job on splicing the braid there Steve, and fantastic job on recap. Love it 😅😅😅😅
Thank you!
Way to go Matt! Soooo cool 🎉 🤟🏽
Nice!! The fatties are back.
Is 12oz also good to have for Eddie bomb or just 16oz and above all I need? Trying to lighten my gear.
12 oz will work! Just depends on the current and conditions if you would need to go heavier.
You recommend no hook on top? How about two hooks on the bottom. Is that okay?
Yep! Totally fine. We just have seen the top hook side snag or interfere with a correctly otherwise set hook that would be on the bottom.
You’re fishing 40-50# drag?
Thanks about the leader length. What’s a good knot to tie onto the barrel swivel on the leader?
A double San Diego holds just fine!
@@FishTheLegend Thank you. I never heard of that one. Tie the know through the bottom loop and top loop? 👋👋👋
I see hooks only on the bottom. Is there a reason for that? One last question, when do you use low gear? I have a two speed and always wanted to use it.
We find that the top one contributes to side snagging or an improperly set hook otherwise at the bottom and in the mouth. Typically you use low gear towards the end of the fight when the fish is up and down. It’s a risk when the fish is still farther out because if it swims towards you while you’re in low, you might not be able to catch up & the line would go slack and you’d lose the fish. When in doubt, always ask the crew! They should be with you & able to help you switch between gears when appropriate.
@@FishTheLegend Got it. I’ll ask the crew next time I go out if ok to push the button. 👍👋👋👋
I'm from FL and only been on two trips in June, so I'm no expert; however, I was very successful on one trip at night using a Shimano Terez Rail Rod - TZCR72XH - 7'2" - 100-150 lb with an Avet 30w 3 speed (didn't use but one speed) spooled with 100 lb diamind g3 braid. Caught all my fish on 300 gram mustad rip rollers. One was Looma Polkadot and one was Ironman. I rigged each jig with 180 lb fluoro leader crimped to a 300 lb swivel. I connect a 500 lb snap swivel to the braid by way of a bimini twist. That way i can easily switch out jigs. I added an assist hook to the top of one jig, but didn't on the other. Both caught at least 4 bluefin tuna on a 1.5 day trip. I was heckled by the staff for the stock hooks; however, 9 fish were landed with those stock hooks. I'm not saying to not upgrade, and it's probably a good idea for the monsters. I just didn't have anymore. I was casting way up-current, then would let my jig fall until it reached the desired depth as marked on my line (marked every 50 feet). Then I'd reel like crazy. Either I'd hook up or drop down and start over. Many of my fish were hooked on the drop. You just have to be aware of any rpm change of your reel spool while dropping. If something changes, reel like crazy. I landed 5 bluefin in the 50 to 60 lb range then hooked and handed off 4 bluefin to others who hadn't caught any. During the day I fished a St. Croix Mojo Salt 7' Heavy with an Avet LX6/3 MC Raptor spooled with 80 braid and a 40 lb fluorocarbon topshot. 8oz. sinkers did the trick during the day. Our nighttime fish were down from 150' to 400'. Daytime were around the same, but not many fish caught during the day. Can't wait to go back.
The worst ever to see
All these viewers ARE ON FIRE ,❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Last year was my first tuna fishing trip. I was with a group on a chartered trip (aboard the Legend) in July with great Tuna fishing under a flat calm sea...I had a personal best 90 lbs BFT (using a 420g Crimson Tide Streaker) with the help of excellent, friendly and professional captain and crews. Hopefully, I will land a bigger BFT (that will beat my personal best) with our group on an upcoming July 11 trip. See you guys soon.
Awesome to hear!! We’re glad you had a great time and caught a great fish! See you soon.
Idea for a torture test video, stress an Eddie bomb till the eye of the sinker fails?!? I haven’t done this yet but have talked about tying or chrimp 200 pound to each eye and tie the other end to two trucks see what breaks would be a cool video. Done this with 100# and had two dudes pull like tug of war and the line failed first. Just to prove you don’t need all the “safety” rigging.
I got 7 last week on the pegasus..slay fest!
Is that dog shit on the radar???😂😂😂
Is a fathom 40nld2 gen 1 or 2 ok for a knife jig/ sinker rig setup? If so what rod would be a good pair to this as a dual setup for sinker and knife jigs?
I would personally go heavier than a 40. The new 60 and 80 are more geared for the task! Or a speed master 20 or 25! Same price, better reel
We also have a whole video on “rail rod” comparisons that will be helpful too 😊
@@FishTheLegend thank you, so spread masters are capable of being a sinker rig/knife jig setup?
@@socalfishincrew5410 definitely!

What does “1x3” or “3x5” mean on the seeker rods?
On the Seeker rail rods the numbers represent the power For example 1x3 means a XH tip power to XXXH butt power. So 3x5 would mean XXXH tip to a XXXXXH butt power. Hope that helps 11:47
