- Gregg is very excited to get in on the "cattle call" audition for his dream gig with David Lee Roth, who has just left Van Halen. The drummers auditioning before him tip him off to what the band is looking for, but ultimately it's Gregg's ability to transcribe the intricate riffs and play to them that makes an impression and earns him the gig!

How can one not just absolutely love this man??!!
Gregg is up there with the greats. He earned every accolade and deserves respect from any drummer! I think if I had to pick one of the greats to take lessons off of, it would be Gregg Bissonette.
Greg is an awesome story teller. I hope he shares more from the DLR band days
A great drummer and an honestly grateful man for all of his success. Stay humble and grateful Gregg!
Gregg is just such a great guy, and he plays like wow!
Great story, great drumme. I can listen to his stories forever...
Absolutely love this story, fantastic musician from one of the best super groups of the 80s, every single member was top of their game and with the ultimate showman and leader. I never got to see DLR live but got to see the whole band with Steve Lukather who was touring his first solo album with basically the DLR group (no Vai obviously) what a treat that was back in the 90s.
What a beautiful human being Greg is, on top of his skills and talent!
What an awesome person
One of the best players and gentlemen in the biz. Loved him with Satriani too of course. Summer Song....great groove.
This dude is so so good.
Great story. Gregg's just awesome. Amazing player. The 80s were certainly a different time.
Gregg is so cool. Love this guy.
Met his dad back in the day at the store I worked at. Gotta love Warren, Mi.
Great interview.. Eat ‘em and smile was akin to deep purple in rock for me! Talented guys with great songs and I got lost in the music!! I’m a drummer and I still try to play with that voracity !! Thanks guys !!! 👍😎
awesome story, he so deserved that gig, great showman too
what a cool and charismatic guy...and, of course, a genius on the drums! greetz from germany!
Dave called Gregg the "Prince of Pound" --- King of Heavy Artillery !!
Awesome!!
The DLR band is the best live gig I have ever seen! It was jaw dropping entertainment and musical chops!
When I had the chance, Steve and Billy had left (it wasn't announced), it was not good... I flipped coin between DLR and Yngwie, should have gone with Yngwie, at least there wouldn't be no substitute guitar player...
LMFAO! That was awesome! What a character! Met Gregg really briefly, recently. Good dude.
Peace & Love for Gregg ✌🏻
I was looking at that Gretsch broadkaster in champagne sparkle behind him!!!!!
Gregg blew my mind on the 'Eat em and smile' tour. I can't find his drum solo on yt but I just found THIS!!!
Wow! This feels like a continuation from Matt Sorum's Modern Drummer interview! Oddly enough, I was re-reading that issue about a week ago! Small, but awesome, world.
INCREIBLE, GRACIAS
What a great story teller
Gregg is great!
Not surprised. UNT alum, some of the best musicians around.
what a cool guy
Awesome story...greg's the man!
Man, when I saw Greg in the Band back in the day, I was like, who is this clown. Man was I a dumb ass. Oh only a drumming juggernaut....😀
I know James Kottak. greg here, is really taking on his character, big time! ha ha! hardly can tell 'em apart! too funny!
Your the best Greg
Very cool
This guy can play!! Nice guy, too. It was really interesting to hear how he got the DLR gig... \m/ (:o)
I'd love to know the Writing Process, was Dave there for most of the time or just showing up to finished "songs" with no words. Did he bring in Lyrics or come up with things on the spot. Great Band and Debut album.
I bet he liked that Greg was accomplished in Jazz as well. Dave is very Vaudeville.
Gregg was great in Roths band/
The best
That's my cousin Gregg
Wish i could just call steve for a job,you have to be in the know to begin with.
He hasn’t changed a bit since 10 years.
I saw him with DLR at Donnington M osters of Rock. Awesome drummer in an awesome band on an awesome day.
Damn what a funny story.
