How can you not love this guy? Heâs got all the technical stuff⊠All the enthusiasm⊠But the endless boundless passion of a 13 year-old who canât wait to get home from school and play. Beautiful⊠Good work, Rick! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Not just that but he also turns out to be Winnie the Pooh!!!! WINNIE THE ACTUAL POOH!!!! Santa IS real after all!!!!đ€© Faith in humanity restored!!!!
The truest statement ever, âyou can have the talent & technique but thatâs just 50% of it, the other 50% is are you a good guy.â Another great interview with an awesome musician.
I clicked on this thinking "I don't really have time to watch this whole thing." I sat here smiling the whole time - then when it ended, I thought "More. I want more." What a great guy.
Same here, never thought i'd be watching a second time. What a great guy with such wonderful energy - a real inspiration.
happens the same to me
Gregg is one of my oldest and dearest friends. A true friend and salt of the earth. He called me last week to invite me to the gig when they played outside of Boston, but I was out of town. Love him and can't say enough about him.
gregg is one of those drummers i wouid love to grab a cup of coffee and just chat about everything in general, but drums would surely come up.he's the best!!
Wow, what a bundle of energy! Great to see someone of his stature and experience still be so energized and excited about music. Great interview, Rick!
...and the grace to thank the man behind the scenes, Billy. What an enjoyable interview of an interesting and talented man by an interested and talented man!
And so Humble
@@peterhaan9068 Yes, I heard that too. I just finished the interview. Man, I really gotta get caught up on Greg. Iâm an old 80s rocker, and actually have a picture with my friends and I and Greg, backstage at the first David Lee Roth tour, here at the forum in LA. He had a big smile then too! Great guy! đđ»đ„
Reminds of a actor. I canât place
I loved this guy all the way back when he played with that clown David Lee Roth. Now he has the best gig in the world playing with Ringoâs all star band. I love how he talks about Ringo, so many people say Ringo was too simple but Greg knows better. He knows Ringoâs drumming made so many classic Beatles songs.
I've never played drums in my life. After listening to this guy, I feel like I know everything about drumming. What a teacher he must be. Cool dude. I like him.
Gregg's love & appreciation for music is so evident. A great guy. Excellent interview.
Such an infectious amount of energy. Greg is the bee's knees.
As a drummer, I'm amazed at the drumming legends Rick has interviewed. I still tend to think of drummers as being under- appreciated by other musicians. When i see Steve Jordan, Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, and now Gregg here for interviews, Rick's knowledge of our standard bearers always impresses me.
Agreed, the rhythm section is the band in most cases. "[A] band is a rhythm section and a couple of novelty acts" - Nick Mason đ
Idiots who don't get anywhere in their local scenes disrespect drummers. In the real world drummers are often the sharpest people in any good band.
Most respectable rock stars will acknowledge that any good band starts with the drums!
As a guitarist, I have to say drums are probably more important. A keyboardist can replace a guitarist or bass player, but nobody can replace a drummer
Without a good drummer, youâre going nowhere.
An interview with Ringo Starr would be Rick's most-watched interview ever.
How good would that be.
Ringo now eh...that would be Rocks most watched interview
Gregg was over in the UK back early 2000 and came to my music academy to perform a drum a clinic. Not only did he blow all us drummers away, but he was also super nice and friendly to everyone before and after...taking photos, answering questions and signing autographs. What a super guy!
Yeh, great! he does seem a really nice guy, getting the most out of life.
You reminded Me of a great clinic I had the pleasure to attend with Simon Phillips, same deal, great Guy with a huge beautiful heart.
Never lose Your heart Folks.
đđđ
Rock On!
Yes, and his love of life and positive energy is infectious !
He is the biggest example of the âhalf pieâ he mentions. Being a nice guy. Besides all the musicality, knowledge and his ingenious playing, he is really into the interview. It really shows that he pays attention, he listens and gives his attention to the other person. And of course, he is a drumming beast!
As person, he sure is a blast!
100% agree! I started to have a lot more success playing music when I finally figured out that playing MUSIC with others is roughly 50% good quality drumming and like you said, "pays attention, he listens and gives his attention to the other person" and by this I mean personally while in conversation and also while playing the music listening to what the others are playing to make the other musicians and over all music sound great. Drums are an accompanying not solo instrument.
@@Nagroddy absolutely, could not agree more! When I started studying music at the uni, I think we all had to learn that important lesson somehow. We all thought we could play. We all thought our ideas were the coolest. We all wanted to steal the show. But then, when you see how much you can learn when you start listening to everybody, when you play for the song; then, not only you but the audience will also feel the connection. The same thing transfers to any other type of human connection. Listen. Learn. Donât judge. Having a beginnerâs mind usually helps more.
Absolutely! So glad I caught this. Gregâs enthusiasm totally rubs off on you! Totally enjoyed their time together in this bit!
No doubt, one of Rickâs best interviews. Gregg Bissonette is a land mine of great responses.
Donât let the happy, positive demeanor fool youâŠThis man is one of the biggest badasses to ever pick up drumsticks!!!!
True that!
It's so manufactured I actually have trouble watching him. No disrespect.
â@John_Thompson what makes you think it's manufactured? It definitely seems like genuine enthusiasm to me!
That band with David Lee Roth was a super group! Billy Sheehan, Steve Vai, and Gregg that really was a great lineup! Gregg is so cool.
You ainât kidding!!! I mean, as an enormous OG Van Halen fan, I have to admit I was disappointed with most of DLR solo stuff. It just seemed to schmaltzy & campy etc⊠but the musicianship in that lineup is without par! Bisonnette is so underrated!!!
yeah billy sheehan is still my bass guitar hero
"it's not just the drummers responsibility to hold the time" amen, Greg, amen!
I couldnât stop smiling through this interview. Gregg has to be one of the all time fun guys
For real! I would love to have a beer and talk to them for hours.
Best interview ever. I have never seen an interview with Gregg in which he didn't share some increbible and often bizarro-world factoid or story. And now the greatest of them all... Winnie the Pooh! What?!?
Whoa! This guy has played with some of the best bassists in the world!
That was awesome! His positive energy is contagious! =)
Good call, CT! I'm watching this at 8am and he's got me ready to go tackle the day... hopefully I don't fall back asleep by 9!
I slightly fell in love with him.
it really is! never heard of him before and now i gotta do better
I grew up as a teen in the 80s and loved Gregg in those funny David Lee Roth videos --- he was havin' a blast behind the drums!
Agreed. I could listen to him for hours. Great stories.
This is not an interview, this was a chat between two friends who know a lot about music, that we had the privilege to witness.
Why canât we give five thumbs up for gems like this?! Thank you, Gregg and Rick.
I haven't laughed this hard listening to a Beato interview. Greg is a hoot! He's totally passionate, knows much and has played with a million people.
So nice to see Ringo getting respect for his originality. Never heard a drummer vocalize fills so spot on!
It speaks volumes about Ringo when Greg keeps going back to Ringo as his main reference.
Ringo's playing always complemented the song. He had great musicality and was just perfect for The Beatles; John, Paul and George knew it.
What a great interview. I canât think of a drummer ever doing a better job talking drums without a kit
Man! Gregg is really animated and his passion for drumming is second to none...
This interview made me think of my cuz Randy Caputo (r.i.p.) he was an amazing drummer.
Besides being a legendary drummer - he is such a nice person! Thank you Rick for this lovely conversation)
Greg is an ambassadore to the world for drumming. Helluva guy, and super fun. Sweet interview!
I met Gregg once at a clinic in Atlanta. He was SOOOOOOO nice to my 11 year old son! I have nothing but praise for Gregg's playing and character. He's a fantastic ambassador for the percussion industry.
My Uncle was a producer at A&M RECORDS HOLLYWOOD from 1969~1999. Loved hearing Gregg mention the A&M Studios! I spent 30 years of my life in those studios and grateful to Herb Alpert for allowing me to come to work with my Uncle!
Gregg is a legend...one of my fave drummers along with Jeff Porcaro.
Love Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, hugely important but often overlooked.
Many years ago, I attended a drum clinic by Gregg. I came very early and was literally the first person in the audience. Out of nowhere, Gregg comes up to me and says "Hi, I'm Gregg!!!" with such infectious enthusiasm. I couldn't believe it. We then had a short conversation and asked him questions about what it was like playing with Joe Satriani, etc. The clinic was awesome and I got some tips for my own drumming which I still apply to this day. It was a day I'll never forget. So glad you got such a great musician and overall dude, Rick.
You can't not like Gregg, such a legend
This interview is "joy personified" and had me smiling from start to finish. Absolutely fabulous. Thank you so much, Rick!
Same! Ear to ear. What a blessing that was to watch.
Me too so awesome Rick sucks lol how good was that
This may be the most entertaining video I've seen on this channel. I've watched it multiple times (the Winnie the Pooh bit has me almost in tears from laughter each time). I think Gregg should be a regular guest, say...once a month. You can't go wrong having a fun chat with this guy! I'd never heard the name Gregg Bissonette before this week but now I'm a big fan!
His voice had a certain rasp to it and before he said that I was reminded of Winnie-the-Pooh
Can`t remember the last time I smiled non-stop for over a half hour, what an inspirational guy Gregg is, I never picked up a drumstick in all of my 65 years but that could change very soon, great interview Rick, loved it.
To anyone who said Ringo isn't good, one of the best drummers in the world just proved you wrong.
Amen!!
Joseph Milillo- always said the same thing đ
Anyone who thinks Ringo isn't good doesn't understand The Beatles.
@@MetteC5 Doesnât understand drumming.
What a ball of fire! Gregg's ability to verbalize drum grooves and parts is phenomenal and mesmerizing. And the big question- "Are you a good person". What a great interview!
Gregg is the sweetest guy. The whole family. Matt is a great bass player and a really good singer. And Bud, RlP, always had a joke at the ready. I've played on a couple of records with Gregg. Latin ones. Wish I could remember the artists, I love the Winnie the Pooh story. The story about how he got the David Lee Roth gig is amazing too. Rick needs to have him on again.
Two national treasures here, charismatic, professional, great educators and flat out the best in the business. I've never met Rick, but I feel like I know him. Met Gregg and he makes you feel like he's known you all of his life.
Dammit I thought it was just me đđ
Greg made me appreciate Ringo just a little more. When he was air drumming and humming to all those Ringo licks... it dawned on me that I could actually recognized all of those licks. Proof of Ringo's tremendous and under-rated contributions to all those unforgettable Beatles classics!!
Yeah Ringo is so underrated. I was listening to Strawberry Fields Forever today and the drumming is so good, so iconic!!!
I consistently can't believe who Rick gets on the show. Without embellishment or exaggeration, I feel like rick's channel might be as important to music history as any of the individual players that he interviews, even the greatest ones.
Rick gets them because they have realized he's not one of those "media interviews." He's about the music and asks real questions about the music. The Sting interview shows that. You can literally see Sting and Dom realizing that. It's awesome!
In the past few months he's had Sting, Brian May, and Gregg Bissonette at his home studio --- very impressive!
Those fills from Strawberry Fields Forever are absolutely some of my favorites from the 20th century. Ringo is so underrated to this day, man
Iâm not a drummer, not a singer, not a musician but I loved this interview!
I think the lesson for our youngâŠlove what you do, do what you love!
I was gonna watch this for a minute...not possible. I blinked and I watched the entire video.
This guy is tremendous. Iâm a guitarist, he makes me want to play the drums. Great job, both of you.
I've never met Gregg in person, but I've met many who have and this video exactly how they describe him: hyperkinetic, happy, cheerful. It does my heart good to know people like this do well in the biz.
I met Gregg after he did a guest performance with a local college jazz band and we went out for a couple of beers a few years ago. His performance was jaw-dropping. He has over-the-top energy, just never stops. Such a joyful person.
I could have watched 2 more hours of this interview. Listening to someone talking about something they love this much is so much motivation!
It Is.
Absolutely!
I love when you have percussion focused content.
Gregg is so enthusiastic and has an energy that's infectious. He's been there, done it, got the t-shirt and still looking for more.
Gregg Bissonette, what a funny guy! We learn so much by listening to him. I became his fan. Greetings from Portugal.
I went to a drum seminar with Greg back in 1989 in Houston Texas. When he was playing he broke the snare drum head; in a room full of drummers you would think okay just stop and swap it out everybody will understand, nope he kept the jam going and the crew brought him another snare. Without missing a beat he swapped out the snare and lit up the room, Greg hasn't changed a bit, he's still full of energy and he truly is an awesome person. to be around.
These types of interviews are priceless! Completely off the cuff. Pure entertainment đ
Gregg seems like one of the most likable guys in the music business. What a great interview!
These interviews are really doing a LOT to promote these musicians' careers! Even "big" stars should be CLAMORING to be interviewed with Rick!!!
Everytime I hear Steve Lukather get mentioned I get so excited because when most people think TOTO they think "rains in africa" and that's it...And that's SO UNFORTUNATE because TOTO is a wealth of great music and Luke is an unsung guitar hero. His DiMarzio Transition pickups are so good too
Now that I'm in my mid fifties, my opportunity to nerd out with musician friends is limited to say the least. My favorite part about this is the unbridled enthusiasm you guys have.
No drugs, all personality! What an experience listening to all those great stories. Won me over big time.
Great to see such love for Ringo. What are the odds Paul McCartney would chime in here and tell us he wrote the drum parts and taught them to Ringo... lol.
Macca, always re-writing historyđ
Great interview. Iâm a drummer and Gregg is a drummers drummer. Heâs a fantastic musician, and seems like a great guy. And yes, I play because of Ringo - a seriously underrated drummer.
One of the best, and frankly surprising, parts of your interviews is just how amazingly personable, humble and fun so many of these legends are. Iâve met a handful of folks over the years and theyâve run the gamut from total jerks to sweethearts - you must choose well!
Greg is just a supernova of positivity. I had a dumb grin postered on my face for the whole thing. From Ringo Starr to Winnie the Pooh? It gets no better. Hope the show was a blast!
Gregg has so much infectious energy, my favorite Rick interview ever!
I first saw Greg with Maynard Ferguson back in the 80's and it has been fun watching his career unfold. He has turned into a real heavy weight and has remained a nice guy to boot. He is living the dream!
Next interview Rick does needs to be Ringo Starr! Gregg is almost interviewing himself but in the best way possible!
Thatâs what music is all about! To see the honest, unadulterated joy in someone whoâs been in the business as long as Gregg is so cool! What a great interview! đđ»đđ»đđ»
That was great! If you havenât seen Greg with Ringos All Star band, you are missing out, itâs an amazing show, this guy is cool, and can play those drums!
I love Greg Bissonette. Great musician, great human being.
What a wonderful and graceful human being Gregg is. His energy is contagious. Great interview, Rick..thank you!
Gregg is a hell of a drummer and a hell of a guy ! He is one of the few who can play Porcaro's Rosanna shuffle to perfection. He is a master of his art
Saw Greg when he stepped in for Simon Philips during Totoâs Tambu euro leg tour a while back. Became a fan instantly.
AGREED!!!!
I was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time with Gregâs brother Matt when our boys played baseball together. Got to meet Greg briefly in 2009 at a birthday party. He did a rendition of AC/DC Back in Black that was amazing! Listen to his voice, a little scratchyâŠperfect! Both Matt and Greg are very special people! Great interview, so fun!
Ive never seen a interview with Gregg. What a class act of a guy??!! His passion for drumming really comes out great stuff Rick.
What a great interview!! Gregg is fantastic and comes across as an absolute encyclopedia of knowledge!! What a fun time!! So enjoyable!!
Whenever that question âWhat rock star should write a book?â Comes up, I always say Gregg because of all the people heâs worked with. The amount of stories he has could probably fill volumes
I didn't know how much I love Gregg Bisonnette the person until right now. Bless you both for living with joy through your love of music and life.
Wow! I just remembered him from the David Lee Roth records. He is such a source of knowledge and energy, and he shares it all!
May be the best interview yet, Rick. I really felt like I was there, sitting in back, he painted his stories so well.
You're #1 for music, Rick!
I was extremely fortunate enough to take a Master Class from Gregg back in the 90s, and he's as awesome as he comes across here. Very giving with his time, and his overall positive outlook is truly infectious. Reminds of a younger Dom Famularo (another great drummer).
My wife and I saw Gregg at Mozingo's Music in O'Fallon, Missouri, for a drum clinic a few years ago. Super-colorful dude, electric personality, helluva drummer. And the work he did on Satch's "The Extremist" ~ absolutely perfect!
and time machine. gregg's one hell of a drummer
This is pure gold... what a joy !!! as I've said before - these are now part of the Historical Record of great musicians of our generation (Thank you, Rick)
Greggâs energy is infectious! And his memory for all those moments of recording and touring and playing is unbelievable! Thank you Rick and Gregg for that interview!
How fun and cool is that interview. Simply amazing.
The most engaging drummer interview Iâve seen. Gregg B. is so animated! Rick, youâre a great interviewer.
Looooooooved this episode. Been around music, musicians, recording, etc. for most of my life. This episode is just like meeting a "name" for the first time, hitting it off, the conversation goes everywhere, and the time just flies!! Thank you for this!!
Unbelievable interview. Greggâs excitement and enthusiasm is just infectious. Wind him up and let him go.
True.
What an incredible energy! Always a fan of his playing but now, that personality!
What a great guy and great musician.
You know Rick is a little bit in awe when Gregg says, _"I tell Ringo this all the time. I'm gonna tell him this next week."_ Again, great job Rick - in bringing us these intimate interviews with these LEGENDS of music. đđ
Rick will someday get a Ringo interview on this channel. You heard it here first
@@katskillz First thing I thought of - here comes the Ringo interview from this!
Ringo intently listens to the vocals, always complementing and never competing with the most important part of a pop song.
Agreed. Never understood the flak he got.
That first David Lee Roth album with Vai and the Bissonette brothers was killer, musically! I totally remember being mesmerized by Gregg on the drums, even though Iâm a long time guitarist and was watching the music videos and listening because of Steve Vai. I love Greggâs enthusiasm!
Amazing interview. Half way through: "should I look at the camera or at you?". haha Could listen to another half hour of this. As a drummer I have huge respect for Bissonette. Amazing talent, and such a positive force of nature!
I went to college with Greg. He nearly ran me over while he was doing a drum fill. He was outrageously talented. A real nice guy and (at the time) a better drummer than a driver.
LOVE Greggâs energy!!! đ„ đ„ đ„
I had the pleasure to see Gregg preform with Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band last night. I was blown away by his playing and you could see the joy in his face being able to perform with such great musicians. For me, the highlight was his solo during the Edgar Winter song "Frankenstein." He worked in many of the classic rock drum grooves mentioned in the interview, although I'm not sure how many non-drummers in the audience was aware of this. I found this one of the most clever and entertaining drum solos I've ever seen.
Saw Gregg play with Ringo in his allstar band last weekend and he was absolutely incredible. Phenomenal drummer.
I'm a guitar player. Many MANY years ago (1990'ish) I went to one of Greg's clinics with my good friend and drummer and was blown away not only by Greg's playing but his mannerism and way of teaching was just enthralling. Guitar players can learn a huge amount from a good drummer and Greg is undoubtedly one of the all time greats.
Gregg is an incredible guy. I got to talk to him a few times at a couple of Christian music conferences that focused on musicianship. The year I met him, he came into the clinician's/performers greenroom and the conferences' creator/promoter and I were there working on some stuff. Gregg came in and had a laptop under his arm. he excitedly opened up the laptop and showed us the footage from Ringo's 70th birthday celebration that he had just played on 3 days earlier. Specifically when McCartney, who had said he could not be there because of previous commitments, showed up and surprised Ringo by playing "Birthday!" What a TREAT! I've met his brother, Matt as well, who was a co-producer, co-writer and bass player for Rick Springfield for several years before taking a bass playing gig with Elton John. The two brothers, along with Springfield, put out an un-credited album in 2021 under the name The Red Locusts. It is an incredible celebration of Beatles inspired rock and power pop.
Insane indeed. What a guy. His energy is infectious.
When world class musicians are excited to see you, you know ya got it goin on. And the level of humility is highly commendable. Every time an artist commends Rick he gets past it with no real comment.
