- Thanks for visiting Stars of the Diamond!
Today I am opening for the first time a recent win I had in the most recent Heritage Auction. We will be going through the collection for the first time with you!
This original collection was the childhood collection of a young boy in Northern California from 1915 to 1921 and he protected his collection of these rare cards in an old copy of Robinson Crusoe. The collection includes roughly 500 Zeenut cards and countless newspaper cutouts and many other items.
What treasures will we find in this collection? I don’t even remember the last time I was this excited to get a collection and review it. The cards inside... ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!
Let me know in the comments below your thoughts, I love talking cards and I do respond to comments!!!

That was so awesome!
Thanks Larry, there is nothing better than finding original collections and going through them for the first time. It almost feels like a treasure hunt!
These are spectacular!
Thanks for watching the video & the kind words. Be sure to check out the video after I was able to remove the bulk of the cards from the deteriorating scrapbook.
What a great video! Truly a time capsule and the picture with the kid who put it together, priceless. This is loving baseball at it’s core. It just doesn’t get any better!!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching, be sure to check the follow-up video after most of the cards had been removed to preserve them.
I agree with everything you said about the collection and couldn’t have said it better!
This is a cool vid.
Thanks!
New Subscriber. This is an amazing video with an amazing album. Enjoyed. Look forward to your future videos.
Thanks for the kind words. I am finishing the process of removing the cards right now and will post an update video this weekend! Stay tuned!!!
While the cut-outs and pasted cards is a shame, it is also ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. There is an incredibly unique quality to this - a real slice of baseball fandom from a forgotten time. You could take any of these pages and it would be worthy of framing. Incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this.
I agree, unfortunately the pages are so brittle the cards need to be removed, I am likely to leave the cut-out cards still attached and preserve them with the book and the image of the kid whose original collection this was. If it were in better shape or more complete I would likely keep it all together and preserve it that way.
This was fantastic thanks for sharing. Found you through Alex.
Thanks for the kind words! It is a fun and exciting group of cards.
This is amazing! Please share a video of your restoration results when you are finished.
That is a good idea. I have some of the cards out but in various degrees of readiness (it takes a while to soak cards and you can’t rush it). I may make a follow-up video this weekend to show the progress.
Awesome buy. Good luck in the preservation. I could just spend hours reading the old articles. Also. I would think the oldest ODoul zeenut might be his only card as a pitcher. That's cool in of itself
As cool as the cards are the articles are equally amazing, just such an important time period in baseball history. The 1919 Works Series, the Black Sox scandal, the death of Ray Chapman, and the emergence of Babe Ruth as a superstar everyday player that changed the game forever!
Would really be interested to see the soaking process.
That isn't a bad idea. I might show how it is done at some point but I am by no means a professional at it.
One of the coolest videos I have ever watched...thank you....I believe I have seen you as a dealer at the National before?? I do have a list of Jewish Zeenut cards...may I send the list to see if you have any dupes to sell? Thanks, Michael.
Feel free to send me your list to rhettyeakley@gmail.com
Thanks for watching the video!
Any Jewish players Michael passes up, I’d be interested. Thank you.
@@SeanTeaford I will keep people informed on what the plans are. I am currently in the process of deconstructing some of the pages as in its current state these items will continue to deteriorate.
That's awesome Rhett!! Curious to know if you were able to get the 1919 checklist out intact.
Ben, good to hear from you man! I haven't tried that page yet, I am working on some other pages and will do that one last just to make sure I know exactly what I am dealing with in regards to the type of glue, etc as I do not want to damage the checklist.
What no love for Alex Mails aka Mains?
Any no-no articles?
I will check but I haven't seen any so far. It appears to be 50-50 Major Leagues and PCL articles.
Rhett, please check Facebook messenger.
