Watching Bleach For The First Time | Arc 1: Agent of the Shinigami (Episode 1 - 20)

Today I'm gonna be going through my thoughts on the first arc of Bleach: Agent of the Shinigami, as a first time Bleach watcher in 2022. So yeah, we started watching Bleach on the podcast. Figured since we're going through it arc by arc, I might as well also make videos on it as well. Man you don’t know how glad I am to have found your video.
I started watching this 3 yrs ago and got around episode 100 but fell off and I don’t remember scat. Now they dropped a new season and I’m tryin to get back to watching it but don’t want to start all the way back to episode 1.

Man this is nostalgic! Tite Kubo is a really good artist, but it really confounds me that nobody had the idea to couple him with an actual writer as his whole thing is drawing - little wonder nobody likes how the Bleach manga ended when he was given a short schedule to finish it after going steady at it for a decade. Anyway, I started watching Bleach in 2011 I think, never rewatched it as a whole as it takes more time than a baroque novel but there were parts I'd return to from time to time, like Yoruichi vs Soi Fon or well most of the Hueco Mundo arc (gotta love dat sad boi Ulquiorra). Really appreciate you doing this retrospective, Bleach really is a great battle shounen, how Ichigo battles with his Hollow self makes a lot of psychological sense. And the fillers are really all over the place, I can't really be angry about the oneparters even tho say following Yumichika as he bakes a cake to appease a random spirit was pretty bad at least it was over quickly, and then you have the giant flying fortress twoparter or what was it called that was just a genuinely funny spoof on super sentai shows. Season 15 is probably the best the fillers have to offer (yes a season thats all filler and its actually good!) as it pits everyone against everyone and everyone against their bizarro twin which sounds like a simple premise but its just done well and in a battle shounen the question of whod beat who has to be a good one, its just a really fast paced season with faster battles than usual as Bleach really followed Dragon Ball with having super drawn out battles. But I havent even said anything about the first arc that you covered here, it really is nostalgic seeing all the characters as they were drawn in the beginning, Kubos style changed a lot in general, and remembering characters like Tatsuki or Orihimes backstory with her big brother, so thank you for making this video and i hope to see more of Bleach from you.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm already going through arc 2 of Bleach, so it hopefully shouldn't take too long until a follow up video comes out. Bleach was the one of the big 3 shounen that I wanted to get into the most back in the day, simply based on the aesthetics, but it sadly never happened. So I'm glad that both of my co-hosts on the podcast decided to to drag me on this journey after all these years lol

I'd like to recommend two retro anime for you: Gamba no Bouken and Siver Fang: The Shooting Star Gin. Both are very interesting.

honestly you should just read the manga especially for this arc in particular where they cut out some stuff here and there and added filler soul reapers and a filler scene that ruins ichigos fight with grand fisher but basically the manga is better all in all and i think you should read it for the best experience

I liked Bleach for a while, but it becomes too repetitive. Naturo is also enjoyable, but in the long run becomes disappointing in many aspects (though the fights keep on improving). I think people should try these two before trying One Piece, so they can properly appreciate how the story just keeps on getting better and how special that is.

That's the plan, then we see how far we get. Both of my podcast co-hosts have already watched Bleach. I'm just here for the ride as the dude that hasn't seen it lol
