The Chinese name for this train is "新自強號", which means self-reliance.
I also like this train very much. It is very new, well designed and very fast. You can also feel the connection with Japan in Taiwan. It is very unique.

The hunting oscillation is not merely due to the nature of the 1067 gauge. It’s also the rather poor track quality in most of the section you travelled. The underground sec. btn Kaohsiung and Xinzuoying is an example of newer tracks where most trains tend to ride better; most tracks North of Xinzuoying until Taichung are crap/of inconsistent quality.
For a 1067 gauge unit, the EMU3000 is, in my experience, one of the most stable ones, being wider and equipped more recent suspension tech. Especially when compared to our own TEMU2000 units..those shake even on straights lol

Really excellent video and here's the thing about Taiwanese Traditional Chinese characters is that they can also be used to write out Cantonese despite having traditional Chinese Hong Kong text available for it. The railways in Taiwan were the reason that I became a railway fan. And it doesn't just stop at MRT/Taiwan Railway Administration/High Speed Rail/Alishan Forest Railway; the railways used to be even more widely spread, and until the early 1970s , there were push cart trams and sugar trams with passenger carriages serving every corner of Taiwan !!

The window sizes look different through. In japanese style the windows match the seats with everyone getting their own small window which aligns with the seat. This means a different window layout for the business class coach must be different to match the different seat pitch. In the UK there is no consideration made to this and it's quite normal to have "window" seats which are misaligned and you sit next to a piece of wall.

The mountain train has two lines, one uses all wood carriage, the wood smell is very great. HSR is very convenient, one every few minutes, I ride it like an extended metro.

Because 4 of those countries are having similar standards and share same decision on differentiating service.

Thank you for your videos. We are getting a bit old to travel much and CZcams provides an excellent opportunity to experience things we cannot do in person. In 2016 we visited Taipei for five days and included a day return trip to Kaohsiung on the high speed line. The line had recently been extended from Taipei station to Nangang station, which also incorporates the conventional railway and the Taipei metro on different levels underground. Above these is a shopping centre and a hotel where we stayed. Super convenient!
In Kaohsiung we rode the first section of the Kaohsiung light rail using old rail tracks serving the docks. The line was very new and the authorities were very concerned about road traffic behaviour at level crossings - a flagman walked in front of the tram at one major crossing.
