Hello there!
I waited long time before buying at the Nightsky, thinking it could be redundant in my arsenal, but once I got it I realized how this pedal is not your average reverb. It's a very interesting take on my favorite effect, adding some synth-like way to control the sound.
Its easy to create beautiful soundscapes, and in this review I will demo it with my Vermona Perfourmer MKII and the Electron Machinedrum.
Enjoy!

I got it last Christmas, It is radically different than Big Sky. While somewhat short in “bread and butter” reverbs, it offers so much in the shimmer and modulation, it has a purpose, plus, I find it using it on so many instruments I did not expect it to sound that good. I read many negative reviews and thats fine, my go-to reverb pedals are Eventide Space and Big Sky, but I don’t see me giving up on Night Sky either.
really agree with what you said
nice!
its been on my consideration list.
thanks for an overview from a synth perspective.
much love and Merry Christmas 🌲
Thanks and happy holidays to you too!
Epic 🔥 soundscapes! Thanks 🙏🏼 for sharing your knowledge and I’m looking forward to hearing what you cook up in ‘22. Best to you and your fam for the holidays!
Thanks a lot and have a merry Christmas !
OMG that chord section is heavenly... Just sounds so chilled! I could listen to it for hours!
thanks!!
So tempting!
I know :)
Your thirst for new equipment is on a biblical scale. Im trying to keep up but your always a step ahead :)
ahah well, I do this as a job , understand that. Would not make sense otherwise :D
Great demo and tempting to buy one.... got a Specular Tempus and is also very good... just love the dreamy sound out of the units.
definitely worth a try
Great video and lovely sounds as usual! I had NightSky and returned it only because in the meantime Strymon released 'Starlab' - the best reverb I have heard/used so far, highly recommended!
yeah I guess if you do modular starlab is great!
@@OoraMusic I don't really, I only have modular effects (Magneto & Starlab) and use them to process audio from various non-modular synths and samplers, Starlab is superior to Nightsky in terms of flexibility/features and Strymon says it has new, different reverb algorithms than Nightsky which sound absolutely amazing in my opinion, if you have time you can give a listen to short sound tests on my channel with Hydrasynth and Lyra-8
Real good.
thanks!
Thank you for your videos which are always amazing.. I don't know why but you seem to have an Italian accent.. anyway congratulations!
Similarly taken aback by how much it complements the MachineDrum! Don't often allow myself, or find myself gravitating towards using reverbs on drums but I think when that reverb can really move and modulate then it's a different story! Been experimenting with a sort of baby version of this - Korg Volca Drum into Chase Bliss Audio MOOD, reverb mode on, modulating the clock and sending it MIDI with conditional trigs to have a percentage chance to grab the micro-loops :)
oh man that is interesting. so far never used chase bliss midi, I guess I should
@@OoraMusic highly recommended! conditional trigs and MIDI LFOs from the Octatrack is a lot of fun. The MIDI over TRS cable is a little annoying but their MIDI box does that conversion for their pedals, Meris, Empress etc and there's a company, Disaster Area, who do a simple cable you can plug directly too.
Waiting... 😎😍😎
Well done 😎😍😎 c ya
thanks!
The NightSky is much more than just a reverb pedal.
definitely
Quick question on my night sky when I turn the size/pitch knob all I’m getting is pitch change Is that also changing the size of the reverb because it claims that the size can be adjusted from small to completely three-dimensional huge hall type reverb. I know length and decay are part of it but I’m just talking about the actual size/knob. I haven’t got an answer from anyone it’s really weird that no one can tell me the answer to this question lol anyway I love your videos.
Can you please make a video about, if possible, using the torso T1 in conjuction with the OxiOne, i'm waiting for my T1 and i was wondering if the oxi can be the best companion for melodic stuff, with harmonizer etc using the Torso more for rythmic stuff.
it will come in January. I can say that they are a killer combo!
Jesus christ this made me soooo sleepy:.:: wow
in good or bad way? :D
will you play some Lyra
next time!
It seems that every time you press a button the reverb stops and restarts. Not sure if that's common to most reverb pedals but it certainly affects live improvisation potential, right?
it has a very fast response on tweaks, so yes, I think is great for improvisation!
@@OoraMusic oh yeah tweaks to knobs seem to happen quickly but I think they should have found a way to keep the reverb trails going when pressing the buttons. Unless I’m mistaken, the trails cut off when changing parameters via the buttons.
How would you say this compares to the Microcosm?
totally different pedals, can't compare!
while very different, I can see falling them in a similar spot on my chain. Id say Microcosm is less controllable but yells the most amazing results, Nightsky can't go in that territories while offering a more manageable tweaking experience. Hope this make sense lol
How does this compare to the Empress Reverb? If you could only have one, which would it be?
Empress would cover more territories, Id buy that one first. Nightsky is a great tool for creativity and experimentation.
I have both. Empress is like Big Sky. So it's patches and lots of algorithms. Nightsky is like a reverb synth in which you can shape the trails, modulate, add harmonies, play with filters and waves. You can also freeze a certain part of the reverb and shape it. They complement each other.
From how I'm understanding the pedal, Nightsky is pretty much based on plate and shimmer reverbs. It's up to you how you want to shape it.
