  • Fishing for Musky on Lake of the Woods for the very first time when we stumble on a low 30 inch northern pike. We decide to catch and cook pike for you guys so we had an excuse to eat one of our favorite north american gamefish that often gets overlooked as a food fish as well as a sport fish.
    We show you how we clean and process the pike to remove the Y bones for a more pleasant eating eperience.
    We will be a new Episode weekly from this #BigMuskyDreams series regularly to the channel on this Playlist so make sure to Subscribe and turn on Notifications! Leave a comment below and let us know what you think of this sequence! Hit the LIKE button for us.
    Video has become one of the most valuable learning tools in fishing, as important to learn from as watching "tape" is in any sport. The only thing that beats it is actually LIVING it.

    By far one of my favourite fish to eat. In order to truly appreciate a pike you have to be experienced at filleting them. Specifically the 5 cut method in order to properly seperate the meat from the bones.

    We learned a delicious way to prepare pike from noted Canadian Dan Atnoids from Live Night Saturday. He showed it is possible to take the whole fish add like Siracha and ranch in a blender. Then completely purée it! Same thing Tuna chefs in Sushi restaurants charge $$$ for!

    I found breaded pike nuggets at a specialty store here in MO. Never even heard of it before but it was DELICIOUS! So I try to find out anywhere around here that has it regularly or where to order it just to be told its a sport fish only, bad eating. Hard to buy that line while my husband is asking for seconds!

    I live and guide in north west Ontario and I respectfully disagree that pike is better then walleye😂 there are certain times of the year when pike meat is nice (spring time or later in the fall) but I find later in the summer the meat gets a yellowish tint to it and becomes a bit softer and less firm. We clean and cook a ton of both for guests all summer and it’s undeniable.

    • @brianlewis1372
      @brianlewis1372 Před 11 měsíci

      What is that yellow tint anyway? I filleted a few pikes a few days ago ma d noticed some cuts were yellowish.

    Is it true that the skin of the pike gives the fish bad taste if you dont take it of pretty soon after you catch it? People here in Norway has told me to either rub the fish in salt or skin it verry fast after its caught.

    Pike are probably my favorite to eat, next to burbot. But, I very rarely will harvest them. I much prefer to watch them swim away. I certainly don't keep any over 30".

    Nice way to have someone choke on the Y bones you left in. The purpose of a "fillet" is to get rid of all the bones instead of announcing to everyone not to choke on the bones.

    You said that fish was in the boat since yesterday, how long has it been dead? You said it wasn't to be as good as a walleye well I guess it's all in your preference of eating because I like them better. Someday I would like to show you how to clean them without rolling them in the Slime like you did or handling a dead fish in it you're not giving that fish a Square chance. Would you eat a wallet it died the day before?
